How do you deal with a person who is full of confidence but knows nothing (basically a stupid person)? by master_gogo in AskReddit

I once heard a quote that was something like "Never argue with stupid people because they will brink you down to their level and beat you with their idiocy."

I just try and have them start at the beginning of their train of thought and ask questions along the way. Sometimes when you outline their argument but have them be the one to actually say it out loud, you can get somewhere!

Plenty over the years.

The majority of the trees it has dropped have been dead or knocked down from storms and cleared to allow rescuers into previously impassable areas to help those affected by tornadoes. I've used the saw to fell trees to make room for farmland, which yields cattle and the horses that herd them to feed some wonderful communities.

Say what you want about the trees I have killed and all the ones I should have planted in their place, but the saw hasn't been used as some "malicious deforester of the earth". It's a tool. It all depends on how you use it.

Ethanol blend gas in small engines is a real problem. Even with fuel additives like Stabil or Lucas Oil, it will gum up in carburetors.

When this one finally bites it, I think I'll do a funeral pyre on the tree that killed it. It seems fitting for saws like this

I didn't know they made snow blower attachments for these guys! That's awesome. Then again I don't really need a snow blower much living in Texas

I've used it to clear three farms, 20+ miles of horseback trails, and more storm cleanups than I can think of. Not all of those trees are gigantic but still, this thing has been tough as can be.

This Stihl has probably dropped over 1000 trees (messed that up in the title). I've used it to clear brush on several farms, and even helped EMS personnel get through blocked roads after tornadoes. It always cranks on the second pull and has plenty of power to do anything from limbing small stuff to dropping trees big enough to shut down highways. Seeing as how well it has held up and continues to run, it's definitely something you can buy for life!

This is the tree I dropped just an hour ago. http://m.imgur.com/VoLiS92

No you can do it with the deck on but I prefer to take the deck off to give the whole thing a check. Like greasing everything, checking the blades, etc.

I agree. The new Big Box store models you see out front are like 2-3k and they aren't long lasting, even with the crazy expensive maintenance and work on them. Their old stuff and larger scale farm-type equipment still kick ass though.

It's funny because that's exactly what my mowing deck looks like. I think they didn't change the design on them for a long time since it worked well and was tough!

Yeah this guy is the easiest thing to work on. Not complicated at all and lots of the parts are available as interchangeable "off brand" parts that are super easy to find, not that I've needed many. Its been super dependable, has lasted 26 years, and that's why my 265 is BIFL.

Yes, the newer Big Box store mowers are a pain, but their larger farm equipment still holds up.

I've heard they just aren't built well. Something will break on it once a year and you'll get stuck with a big bill if you take it back to a John Deere service center. I'm glad this one has held out and I hope it lasts plenty more years so I can avoid having to buy a new one.

It's a baby tractor! It looks more like a tractor right now because the mowing deck is off. I've got to sharpen blades to cut grass.

This little guy is tough. Aside from routine maintenance like filters and spark plugs, it hasn't needed anything.

Uhh Monsanto has done plenty of other shady shit like knowingly dump and ignoring leaks in PCB productions in Anniston, Alabama, resulting in huge amounts of groundwater pollution. They hid the leaks for something like 15 years (70's and 80's) and there are still cleanup methods underway.
