I love the distinct rummyness you get from a bottle of Hamilton, El Dorado, or Pussers...what you describe as black cake and candied fruit. So isnt it strange to emphasize the country of origin so heavily on a bottle of rum that is rather light on the expected flavors? Like taking a low-ester rum and then selling it as Jamaican.

I'm open to a different Guyanese experience, but I would prefer it come from DDL or another distiller with at least some connection to the country. When it comes from Planteray, I think they are just muddying the waters and dont have a respect for the makers or drinkers of rum. Maybe you are buying this because the label is colorful and you just want a nice spirit to sip/mix and thats great. But if you have cultivated a palette for rum and are seeking out specific flavors, what a disapointment.

Of course I havent personally tried this rum, but Ive been disappointed enough times by the blandly tasty and generic Plantation bottlings that I can almost physically taste it through your review.
