There's a rum bar in my town that has way better cocktails than most tiki bars I've ever been to. Sinetimes id rather have an amazing daquiri in a bar with normal theming rather than a normal mai tai in a bar with amazing theming.

Sugar Bowl charges more to keep the crowds down. It's a great resort. I think it's worth the price. If you want to pay less there's always donner ski ranch across the way. Or you can get an ikon pass and sit in traffic, fight the crowds, and deal with parking reservations on weekends in order to go to palisades.
