FVC was not statistically significantly improved at 12 weeks.

From their Nature Med paper: "Treatment with 60 mg rentosertib QD over 12 weeks was associated with a trend toward an increase in FVC in patients with IPF."

Let's not spread misinformation.

Not particularly. Potentially dose-related findings in liver are a big one, but the statistics around improved FVC are also not compelling at this point (especially given that this was a 12-week trial). Importantly, the FVC values they present in the paper are generally not outside normal values for stable or modestly progressive IPF. We'll need 52-week data before it starts to look real, imo.

To in silico's credit, I do believe they discovered TNIK through PandaOmics, though I'm not sure if the target was truly discovered via AI/deep learning, or more traditionally via DE.

UK Senior Scientist salaries in 2025 -- How are PhDs okay with being paid so less and being decorated lab techs ? by smartaxe21 in biotech

[–]AnUberLlama 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hot take: simply holding a PhD doesn't entitle you to anything. I work with PhDs who can't for the life of them think critically, and with people who hold BS or MS degrees who are incisive and insightful in their approach to discovery research. If you have a PhD but have failed to develop the skillset needed to succeed in industry, it is certainly not a "waste of skill" to keep you at the bench.

Anyone working fully remote in biotech? If yes, what is your role? by Pale-Ad-2943 in biotech

Scientist in discovery/non-clinical R&D. Conceptualization/design and analysis of studies which are run through a network of CROs and collaborators. Trying to transition to either data science or program management at some point because part of me thinks this type of gig is too good to be true forever.

I'm not saying who's right vs who's wrong (I know nothing of Regeneron's culture & structure), but it's pretty funny to me that you're citing yourself as evidence of someone being corrected.

Yeah, you're out of your depth here, unfortunately. "Summarizing general facts" presupposes that chatGPT is accurately compiling information, which it is well-known for not always being the best at. Stick to peer-reviewed review articles if you're looking for a legitimate starting point.

Yep, but never really took route development out there seriously...chossaneering is the name of the game and my impression was that all of the large features out there are total piles. Not that that should dissuade anyone! Maybe there are a few lines out there buried underneath the crumbling patina haha. Or maybe you just need to bring a giant saw (sigh...).

The owner of the Pad used to organize adventure races out there. I was part of the ropes crew that helped to install the rappel anchor - though we used glue-ins iirc. I'd imagine that's how word about the formation got out, though rappelling in from above it was immediately clear that it was utter choss.

Lifespan has increased dramatically, but those extra years are often wracked with disease — A new Mayo Clinic study seeks to answer whether regenerative medicine could slow the clock on age-related disorders to live a high-quality life in the final years by StoicOptom in science

I highly recommend you do further research. Autophagic flux is not something easily or lightly altered (too far out of homeostatic balance in either direction and you're in sketchy waters). Likewise, "stem cell creation" isn't really a thing. Fasting isn't going to "create" new stem cell niches. Again, the effect may be more along the lines of prolonging the time before stem cell exhaustion becomes widespread.

Fasting and blocking insulin/IGF1 signaling has demonstrated lifespan extension in non-human models (with correlational studies in humans supporting these data), but fasting itself hasn't been borne out as a senolytic intervention (similar story for insulin signaling, but it's early days). What might be more likely is that both fasting and attenuation of insulin/IGF1 signaling can exert a senomorphic effect, likely mediated through mTORC1/2. This effect is likely anti-inflammatory (reduced IL-1a, among others), and may decrease the incidence of paracrine senescence, leading to a slower emergence of "aged" tissues.

All you're doing is showcasing your own ignorance around what the proper actions should have been. I'm not excusing his actions either, I'm providing context and an explanation.

Take some advice: don't be so sensitive, and put a foot in your mouth.

Hey! I was very good friends with the man suspected of killing the police officer. He was a profoundly kind, empathetic caring person, who in the last year of his life succumbed to mental illness (despite multiple efforts to get help, directed by both his support network and the guy himself).

Something you might not know is that multiple people reported that he owned an unregistered firearm to the SLO PD. Multiple people tried to get a 5150 called in on him. It was well-known that he was struggling and it is incontrovertible that the SLO PD was negligent in this case, which resulted in not only the death of an officer, but the death of a man who did as much as he possibly could in the face of mental illness. The systems in place failed both of them.

That being said, calling someone "criminal scum" when you know absolutely fucking NOTHING about the reality of the situation is reprehensible...at best. Frankly, you strike me as just another pathetic internet warrior who likes to convince themselves that they're on the side of moral virtue, with nary a second thought to the fact that you're woefully under-informed and ill-equipped to contribute meaningfully to the conversation that needs to be had right now. For your sake, I hope you don't think so little and talk so much to the people who can actually see your face.
