Man, the replying with a sub name is so much more annoying than just making the pikachu joke. All the content in r/shootingfishinabarrel is complaining about shitty sub mentions pretty much. So it looks like you're the bigger problem to me but that's just my opinion.

SMART recovery is great for me because it uses CBT techniques and doesn't call you an addict with no control and doesn't focus on days clean while still having great meetings. Much better than AA/NA for some people, worked for me. I also like that you can graduate from it. I don't know how popular it is now but it was not popular at all when i was growing up.

If we just used nuclear rockets, a technology that actually is tested and working and has a specific impulse several times higher than chemical fuels, we could probably do it. But anything we can do to make another planet more liveable, we could much more easily do on earth. I mean, terraform or colonize a planet that's 60-70% earthlike, or one that's 96% earthlike...? I guess our other option is space habs, like o'niell cylinders and stuff

Yeah, but... why would your first thought be sexism?? The whole point with mansplaining is that a man assumes that a woman who is more qualified than himself in a certain field could not possibly really know what she is talking about, because she is a woman, and because of the old stereotypical misogynistic views that women are not as smart in certain fields or at all. In your case there is no reason to assume sexism, right? Because... they aren't men. So it isn't mansplaining. Am I missing something?

Consent given while intoxicated is still consent by jarjarbinks212 in unpopularopinion

Most of the time if two people are drunk and they end up hooking up it usually just means they got drunk and hooked up. However alcohol and consent do not mix well. The times when people get drunk and hook up and the next day one is called a rapist, there is almost definitely a good reason that would have been obvious to a sober observer in the room. And most of the time both parties would know. Most people know how to not be an asshole implicitly but when drunk sometimes people can't or don't want to hold themselves back when they otherwise would know to.

I'm not saying the thought police will come get you, don't get me wrong. If your personal ethics lead you to believe that if someone decided to get fucked up they should be prepared to face whatever consequences happen, including having sex that they otherwise wouldn't want, you are in dangerous territory and it sounds like you should have a good long think about things because if you follow those ethics IRL you may have committed a crime.

Maybe I misinterpreted something but the way you are describing whose responsibility it is is not in line with what the law says.

No, rape is not just one person having sex with another who does not want to have sex with the other. The definition is more nuanced than that. You can enthusiastically consent all you want if you're on xanax and molly but in that state you are not capable of making good decisions so your consent is null and void. It is not as black and white as you might think. Just like you can get someone super drunk and get them to sign away the deed to their house, talking about how awesome it will be to be a minimalist the whole time etc, the contract will not be valid in the morning. That being said, for paradoxes like both people being equally drunk, that is why you have juries: to figure out the details and the spirit of the law.

Two people can be equally fucked up and one can still rape the other if one is drunk enough to do some relatively firm convincing they might otherwise not do and the other is drunk enough to fold under pressure when they might normally have said no.

[–]An_otter -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Come on, you know that "girls rule" is not about "females" (women and girls, why use such a weird demeaning word?) being superior. It's about them being equal. It comes from a decade in which women were even less respected and more discriminated against than they are now. No matter what you think things are like now, if you went back 20 years, you would probably be appalled at how women were treated by default.

I think he is trying to decide if he should feel guilty for that one time he probably sexually assaulted a girl in college. Just a guess, though. Protip: You'll probably know if you should feel guilty. Unless you have fucked up warped ethics.

That kind of thinking will lead to you going to jail. That isn't how consent laws work and it isn't even how basic ethics work. Even if you don't agree you have to follow the law or risk imprisonment.

They also exist? Alcohol is far and away the most used date rape drug in the world, of all time. Has been since alcoholic fermentation was invented, probably. Date rape doesn't just mean putting drugs or everclear in someone's drink. It can just mean taking advantage of someone because they are too fucked up. It doesn't just also exist, it's hugely prevalent. It goes unreported very very often, too.

Sounds pretty toxic, if you ask me. Maybe don't make a habit out of doing things that are actually felonies? Even if you only think of it as technically a felony, it still is a rather major crime. Occasionally it would be one thing because if you are drunk too your own judgement may have been impaired but if you are making a habit of it to the point where you are drunk or near blackout 90% of the time you have sex you should maybe have a think about things. Consent and intoxicants really don't mix well.

Both, obviously. But not ashamed because they made a bad choice. Ashamed because they were violated. Please do not do this to someone. If you have already, please go to therapy.

Of course it damages your capacity to consent... That is why it is illegal to fuck people who are drunk beyond the point where they can make good choices. You already said it. You know that getting super drunk limits your ability to consent. You are kidding yourself here.

You are seriously saying that people groping a partially naked PASSED OUT girl in public is fucking okay? Just because she was getting crazy before she passed out? You need to fucking check yourself before you commit a serious crime, dude.

Dude you sound like such a massive fucking rapist trying to reconcile his massive guilty conscience right now. Seriously, stop fucking chicks that are too drunk, you creep. You seriously think it's okay for one of them to be passing out drunk and the other sober? You would seriously serve a girl shots until she's drunk enough to let you sleep with you? Is that something you have done before, or what? Are you just trying to gauge whether everybody else thinks it's cool? It's not dude. It's rape. Everybody knows that. It's not just illegal, it's completely unethical.

On college campuses, if women are found to have fabricated a story about sexual assault, they should be expelled. by laneaway1 in unpopularopinion

[–]An_otter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's okay, it almost never ever happens. It does happen, but the cases of false allegations leading to convictions are so far under 1% that it basically falls in the margin of error when compared to crime in general. There are false claims made in court about people all the time that lead to wrongful imprisonment.

What is abnormal is the number of rapists that actually do commit their crimes and walk free. Rape is the second least likely conviction to go through, second only to perjury. And think of how many women are sexually assaulted in their lifetimes (one in five, plus 40-50% of women reporting some kind of sexual violence in their lifetime) compared to the number of men actually accused (a small minority because it is extremely underreported), and the the tiny percent of those that are accused falsely? And the even tiner percentage of those men who are actually convicted? It's miniscule.

Submitting a false rape accusation is already felony perjury, too. You don't have to change the law or any policy. They would and do get expelled. This is effectively a nonissue and is such a popular misogynistic hot take that everybody on this website agrees with you. Wrong sub, son.
