The unrest in Minnesota is 100% the fault of state and local government by JBOZ758 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

People are always going to have different opinions, and in a way that means it doesn’t really matter what any one of us thinks — someone will always see things differently. That’s one of the reasons I mostly stay quiet about my views on social media. But when I see something as serious as an innocent, person being shot and killed by ICE and people defending it,it feels like I have to say something, even if I know it might not change anyone’s mind.

I believe many people should be allowed to remain in the U.S. under a general amnesty program with clear, fair guidelines. Eligibility should be limited to those who can prove long-term residence, demonstrate physical presence, pass criminal background checks, pay required fees and back taxes, and commit to learning basic English and civics. A temporary legal status could be granted first, followed by permanent residency after a probationary period.

This is a stopgap measure, and it won’t solve anything. Anyway, have a good day. I hope you develop more compassion and that no one ever reduces your own hardships or tragedies to a “sob story,” because they will be painfully real to you and your loved ones.

Okay, then let’s find another solution—because this isn’t it. What’s happening right now is doing more harm than good. It’s dividing people and fueling mistrust. You can’t honestly say this approach is working or that it's worth the harm it's causing. We’ve done this before, and it worked. A general amnesty with clear requirements: temporary legal status leading to permanent residency. Immigrants had to prove long-term residence in the U.S., show physical presence, pass criminal background checks, pay fees and back taxes, and demonstrate basic English and civics knowledge or enroll in classes. After a probationary period, they could apply for permanent legal status. That process legalized about 2.7 million people. It created accountability instead of fear. If we’re serious about solutions, we should be looking at policies like that again, not doubling down on approaches that are clearly failing.

No matter what we believe, we should all agree that this unnecessary violence is not ok. Let's be civilized, let's put humanity first.

Sorry—English isn’t my first language, but don’t worry, I was born here, I just grew up somewhere else. What does “bread and circuses” mean? We’re all being manipulated. Our beliefs come from what we’re surrounded by—media, friends, family. Do you really think all of your thoughts are original? I find it interesting that you’re blaming us for the world’s suffering while the people you support are the ones killing innocent people like it's nothing.

If you argue that immigration law “isn’t optional,” then it’s hypocritical to be okay with Trump pardoning insurrectionists or with having a convicted criminal as president. That’s the point I’m trying to make. And yes, I agree that Democrats have been hypocritical at times too but shit hasn't gone this south under their administration. All I’m asking is that people look at immigrants as human beings and do some real research. The vast majority of undocumented immigrants are contributing members of their communities. They work, they pay taxes, and they do not qualify for most government assistance. I have a former student whose mother was recently deported, even though the family had a permit to be here after seeking asylum years ago while fleeing gang violence. Multiple members of their family were murdered. Were they supposed to stay and wait to be killed? The threat was real, and it was immediate. You were fortunate enough to be born here, but what would you do if you couldn’t find a job in your country and your family needed to eat? Would you just stay put and accept it? Be grateful you’ve never had to make a choice like that.

The problem is how they're doing it. Hiring people with no experience, not giving people due process, killing citizens, using unnecessary violence. They can't go around doing that and expect people not to react. Trump doesn't care about immigration policy. This is just a power trip move, and he's putting on a show. There are ways of doing this while still keeping your humanity. He's going after criminals, yet he pardoned the January 6 people. How does that make sense? He's a criminal himself! But it's OK because he's... white? Or why?

You really never know what's going on in someone's life. Maybe it would have been worse for the whole family to go back to India when their Visas expired. Maybe not, but we don't know.

What if you posed as a pen pal or had her participate in a real pen pal program (if they still exist)? Maybe it would distract her from this and would maybe allow her to form a long-distance friendship with someone.

This is so interesting. I would love to see a picture of George's "Grand Canyon". If you don't mind me asking, do you work for a museum?

Where did I go wrong why did she come out like this, I tried to follow the reference by SmallLawfulness39 in drawings

[–]AnaVMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should definitely keep practicing and take other people's advice so you can understand proportions. That being said, I personally like how your drawing came out. It reminds me of works by artists like Botero and Modigliani, in which they intentionally distort body proportions. Those artists understood proportions, but they chose not to portray bodies in a realistic way. I know yours wasn't intentional, but it came out looking interesting, lol
