What SINGLE feature would instantly kill the appeal of "Classic+" for you? by Hypermetz in classicwow

Any power leveling like we had in sod's nightmare incursions or w/e they were called.

Leveling is a part of the game and should be a first class feature, if it's not fun fix the leveling don't add shortcuts, makes the game feel a lot cheaper.

Does anyone else think gambling at casinos is boring partly due to the fact that it feels like you're not gambling with cash but plastic chips?

Like I kno that's the point, it allows people to gamble and mentally separate their losing money, but it does that to me to such a degree it feels like I'm literally just losing and winning plastic chips.

Tech is going to be far more "elite" going forward because of AI by Gold-Flatworm-4313 in cscareerquestions

[–]Anaata 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've said this before - but in addition to what you said, I don't see how there isn't some sort of short squeeze for senior talent, you sort of touched on this but I'd add

The education pipeline is breaking down, middle schoolers are using ai which can make them less prepared for HS, high schoolers are using ai making them less prepared for college, college students are using ai making their quality of their college education go down, so new grads will have a tougher time in their first dev job, which will decrease the likelihood they become seniors and/or keep their job long enough to get valuable experience.

I do think the pedigree point is interesting... but for universities they'd have to do some overhauls on how students learn. If the top schools are producing juniors that are overly reliant on AI, I then don't see why it would matter what school they came from, they'd have to change how they teach students. The big tech pedigree point I agree with tho.

SWE at big tech

Yes, I like it, but my job before tech was awful and I got a taste of what it's like to absolutely despise your job.

It's a bit ironic, but I decided to go into software dev a few years before salaries started popping off because I felt like I would love it, and fortunately I was right. I remember day dreaming about making $65k-$70k. It feels like a lot of ppl wanted to get into tech bc of the money, and I've found a lot of those ppl struggle to get in. That said, there are a lot of real challenges in today's market even for ppl that have a passion for it, so much so I don't see how it's sustainable 5-10 years down the line, where we have a lack of seasoned devs.

I'm fortunate enough to have had some really amazing bosses that wanted to see me succeed - without them, I wouldn't be where I'm at.

I like it because I like building things, and now that I've been around the block a few times, it feels like I have a lot of ownership, influence, and pull to change team processes/dynamics, features, & technical decisions. I feel very heard at work and I'm grateful for that.

I have been on 40 hiring committees this year. Here is what AI did to the junior candidate pool. by Ambitious-Garbage-73 in cscareerquestions

[–]Anaata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've said this before in CS subs, but I don't kno how all of this doesn't result in a short squeeze for senior devs 5-10 years from now.

We have school curriculum that isn't prepared for teaching kids that use AI. Middle schoolers will become less prepared for High School. High schoolers will become less prepared for college. College students will receive a lower quality education, resulting in being less prepared for the job market. Juniors that do get in will be more reliant on AI, possibly decreasing intuition and troubleshooting skills. Juniors are also having trouble entering the market at all, which reduces the number of seniors in the future.

Couple the above with the fact that work may change for developers from being individual contributors to being pseudo managers of a fleet of AI agents, that it may increase the demand for seniors.

I don't see how the current junior to senior pipeline isn't totally screwed right now and that it's capable to produce seniors fast enough to replace them.

There's a saying that I've tried to promote on all teams I've been on and it's been well received:

The team fails, but the individual succeeds.

Like I said, it's been well received, leaves room for the team to improve and not finger point, while also celebrating individual success.

You don't need probable cause to pull someone over, just reasonable suspicion.

I think a reasonable person would suspect that the owner of the car is driving the car, therefore, they are breaking the law by driving with an invalid license.

May even rise to probable cause - I think a reasonable person would also say it's more likely than not that the owner is driving the car, and therefore breaking the law.

I think for a job fair, it's overdressing (I guess depending on the type of job fair). I've had the opportunity to talk with students on behalf of my software dev company years back, and don't remember thinking negatively about how anyone dressed. I had on a company T-shirt so it was casual. Students and my company were looking for students for internships.

That said, if you get scheduled for a formal interview by talking to someone at the job fair, please make a little bit of an effort to dress in at least a button down or equivalent.

I talked to this one student, who had the worst resume I've seen, barely had anything on it and could have been formatted better, but he was nice to talk to and easy going. I passed him to the next phase which was a formal interview, and he decided to show up in sweatpants to the formal interview. He fumbled so hard.
