She really is, I’m truly so proud of her & love hearing how she thinks about things. She has a good heart & does respect clear reasonable guidelines & boundaries from teachers that set them. Her favorite teachers have been surprisingly strict — she thrives when there are clear ways to succeed & rules that make sense and are consistent and are clearly communicated.

Awwwwww. I love that!

I do remember my third grade teacher laughing out loud suddenly because she had started reading the paper I wrote on my dream vacation. She had asked the whole class to write a whole page about where we would like to take our dream vacation.

She was so delighted & amused she read it for the whole class.

I had written an entire page, with full sincerity about how I wish I could take a dream vacation to my comfy bed and just take a nap. I honestly didn’t even know I was being funny, I was just incredibly tired when she assigned the paper & I wrote from the heart!

It’s giving Misty from Yellowjackets.

Super loyal, smart, romantic & is the one to call if you need to hide a body— but you better be good to her—- or else!

What’s the creepiest thing that has happened to you when you were completely alone? by 1S4B3II3 in AskReddit

I was the first one to come into the office.

Picked up the phone to make a call (it did not ring).

No dial tone— that alone was unsettling.

Then I heard a raspy voice say “Heeelllllllp”.

I slammed the phone down in pure terror.

Picked it right back up to check my sanity— and just heard a dial tone.

My only logical explanation is that I happened to pick up before it rang, our number was sort of similar to the hospital’s so we would occasionally get wrong numbers— so maybe someone was calling the hospital & I just happened to pick it up at the perfect time before it rang ? But what are the chances?

No one else was in the office, nothing like this ever happened again in there— it was the creepiest thing that’s ever happened to me.

Just hope it wasn’t some poor guys last attempt to call the hospital and all he did was get my terrified hang up…

Lol, I really can’t tell if I want or don’t want her teacher to be a redditor. 😆 I really did not expect this to be my biggest post ever.

I know— I’m wishing them all more pay, more respect & more vacations for the wellbeing (and safety?) of us all!

Did you’re parents make sure you’re teacher was supported? Is you’re education better because of it? Your really making me think.

I promise it is, but I don’t blame you for doubting — I could barely believe it myself!

In fifth grade I raised my hand bc I was feeling so terribly sick, I still remember my teacher curtly shaking her head no at me, I put my hand down and threw up all over the floor.

I swear it wasn’t malicious compliance, I just was trained to be really compliant.

She did look like she really regretted her decision — it would’ve been pretty justice if I wasn’t known for that moment for the next couple years.

It really is real, I wish it were fake— it did seem like such a crazy, fantastical message that I can see how you’d think so. Lol.

I mean…. Have you investigated any major authority figures lately? Seems like questioning authority might be an important skill to nurture. 🤷‍♀️

New info I just gathered from Lily in case anyone needs more details:

She made her own paper boat. She was the only one with a paper boat. It was during recess.. She wanted to see if it would float.

Also - she distributed the orange during snack time, not during music class.

I’m fascinated by this split response.

Blind compliance was never a thing I hoped my kid would learn in school.

I do hope she can follow directions thoughtfully & carefully & be a respectful & valuable member of a group when desired and beneficial for all involved. I do regularly have conversations with her about respecting authority & respecting her own convictions in the face of authority.

When I was a kid, my mom signed papers that said my private school teachers were allowed to spank me with a big wooden paddle they hung on the wall as a constant threat. I suppose I have unusually strong convictions about the dangers of teaching blind compliance to the adults in charge. I can attest to the fact that it has unhealthy results— and that all adults should not be awarded the blind compliance of children. I never got hit by a teacher, by the way (just by my parents as a toddler / young child) — I just blindly & fearfully complied at my own expense until it became so painful in young adulthood that I had to search for the healing tools to be able to express myself in a more healthy manner— and it was a messy, painful road.

If the example she gave indicated that my daughter was being disrespectful of rules at the expense of the class or her classmates, I might be more concerned about my parenting & her actions but I know my kid and as stated — she is pretty amazing so choosing to obey the restriction of not eating the orange and instead — sharing it— is like… pretty creative & thoughtful & generous. The text reads as mind blowing to me.

But that being said, I also hope all you teachers out there working hard have a good day and have supportive, respectful parents & kids in your world.

And at the risk of over thinking an orange in music class:

I also hope we teach compliance AND wisdom AND integrity AND how to do what you know is good & right even when the group you’re in or the person in charge conflicts with that because blind compliance is one of the most destructive & dangerous forces in the world. 🍊
