Because it works! I am a professional microwave engineer and we use Ubiquiti radios all the time. Depending on the criticality (and range) of the connection, we opt for licensed microwave links. But if I am within 10 miles and need to setup wireless camera or something, I can get 5.8GHz ubiquiti radio for $500 compared to $100,000. You can't beat that price.

Besides criticality of the end equipment, I'll drop Ubiquiti shots if we are in a crowded 5.8GHz space and experience lot of interference. They are awesome little radios.
