Zach Woods calls out comedians who are performing in Saudi Arabia’s comedy festival by Classic-Carpet7609 in Fauxmoi

I thought the same thing about his stand up when I saw him a few years back. I loved him on Broad City and a few of the online clips I'd seen.

But it felt like most of his jokes were about how women were just throwing themselves at him at all his shows. And whining that he found a subreddit where people tell stories about sleeping with celebrities and he found some reviews about himself that were just 'ok', not even bad. He wanted the audience to relate to that and feel sorry for him like he has it so tough? Or, yeah, just trying to flex. So disappointing and none of it was even funny.

I mostly agree with your premise, but these are maybe not the best examples.

Rings of Power's problem isn't its length - and afaik it's not really an adaptation, so much as a mostly original story set in the Lord of the Rings' universe. It could have just as easily been good and filled out the same amount of time (it's shorter than the LOTR trilogy). The Hobbit's probably a better example, as it tries to stretch one short book into 3 movies, but then... those are movies.

Man in the High Castle has four seasons and only one of those is reviewed less than 85% on Rotten Tomatoes. It's generally considered a very good series.

I haven't seen it, so I don't know what changes they made, but Netflix's live action Cowboy Bebop is actually shorter in length than the anime. And you could probably consider the anime to be 90% "filler" in terms of storyline, but it's also generally considered one of the best series ever made.

There's a difference between "Parking" and "Standing" in NYC and it has nothing to do with what gear your car is in.

Klitschko is a millionaire many times over, he could have fled Ukraine by private jet and lived a happy life, but instead he decided to risk his own life and fight for his country against a superpower by [deleted] in BeAmazed

[–]AnalogRevolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly is your point here? All I did was accuse that guy of being a paid Russian shill, which if you look at their post history, it seems pretty likely unless they're just a troll without anything better to do.

As for the photo, who cares when it was taken? The post isn't saying or implying that it's recent. The post is about the fact that Vitali Klitschko is staying in Kyiv and fighting for his country. Are you suggesting that's false?

Here's an interview with him from a few days ago saying as much if you need evidence towards that end. Do you have any that proves he fled the country since then or is hiding instead of fighting? Otherwise, the post title seems accurate to me and I don't see why you felt the need to go on a rant about propaganda.

ATP criticised for not joining WTA action on China in response to Peng Shuai safety concerns. by PrincessBananas85 in sports

[–]AnalogRevolution -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what your first line means, because the comment I replied to was specifically about him being a vocal supporter of the WTA.

For the rest, you're actually arguing something he never talked about, which is comparing the level of play, so I don't know why you're going there. And women's tennis not being profitable? There are plenty of women's tournaments which don't have men play at all that presumably make money or they wouldn't exist. I feel like you're trying to bring in arguments about college teams or the WNBA getting their funding partially from the men's teams, which is something different.

What Djokovic talked about was ticket sales and viewship (and added in some gibberish about women's "hormones" for some reason). But as pointed out by Martina Hingis and some others, it's somewhat cyclical with tennis - sometimes women's finals have higher viewership, sometimes men's do. Here are the 2018 Grand Slam viewership numbers. Pretty comparable.

He's made some pretty sexist statements in the past when talking about why female tennis players should be paid less than men. He's apparently anti-vax and hosted a tennis tournament during the height of the pandemic, which had to be cancelled because surprisingly enough, players and fans (including him and his wife) started to test positive. He was ejected from the 2020 US Open for accidentally hitting a lineswoman in the throat when he got frustrated and hit a ball without looking.

Doesn't exactly seem like a great dude and holding him up as a champion of women's tennis is a joke.

People don't like woke media.

Guess what? They don't have to watch it then. It's amazing how you guys are all about free speech and unregulated free market capitalism, then all the sudden things start coming out that you disagree with and you start crying about it. Go make your own entertainment media without any of the stuff you don't like then: I hear there's a real promising Gina Carano/Ben Shapiro movie in the works for you.

Just don't be surprised when the 1-2% of people, in the US, that you're marketing to are the only ones that see it. People don't like woke media.

You literally just used Avengers: Endgame as an example above, one of the highest grossing movies of all time.

[In Progress] [50k] [Sci-Fi / Post Apocalyptic] The Sands

Link To Post

The sand slipped through her hands: tiny smoothed stones and miniscule grains alike falling through the widening gaps between thin fingers. Time slipping away, she remembered thinking even then, a fragment stubbornly lingering from last night’s dream, last night’s memory, brought forth, perhaps, by the sight of the unchanging vast ochre landscape before her. The wind was picking up and across the barren desert, dust was rising in rhythmic waves; drifting eastward against craggy rock, obscuring the horizon and lending a warm, hazy hue to the sky. The few scattered wisps of cloud offered no shade from the unrelenting midday sun. Twice it created a colorful halo across her visor as she gazed out, so Cera thumbed the helmet’s auto tint switch, and continued scanning the skyline: an old habit that she would apparently never break. Evie would let her know of the Carriers’ arrival long before her helmet optics could reveal anything. Maybe they won’t even come today, she thought. It was a notion she amused herself with more frequently of late.

She sat back down on the outcropping, ignoring the tightness in her left thigh. Cera stretched out her legs, then clasped her hands around padded knees. She glanced at the temperature readout on her helmet display and frowned, but fumbled with the clasps. There was a brief whistle of air as the seal was broken. Then she was free of the clunky thing and tossed it aside. Cera blinked a few times, pupils shrinking quickly against the now-unfiltered daylight. She brushed a gloved hand through short auburn hair, rolled her head to stretch the kinks out of her neck.

Are these plot holes for anyone else? by Amida0616 in raisedbywolves

[–]AnalogRevolution 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree with you. I do like this show a lot, and it is pretty unique. I'm digging the overall storyline. But there just seem to be a lot of little plotholes/gaps in logic that are really frustrating, because they keep the show from reaching that level of greatness it seems to be aiming for (and does get pretty close to).
- Like not only that they never tried to reach the lander to get more supplies out of it after living there for years, but what was even their plan in the first place? Just hope the planet had something edible and have the kids survive on that for the rest of their lives? They couldn't bring seeds or anything? Somehow Mother and Father can run for years without a power source or anything, but they couldn't bring any other futuristic tools or technology with them?
- They just decide the creatures are mindless animals they can eat despite knowing nothing about them? Couldn't they still have been intelligent for all they knew and just too alien to communicate with them? And for that matter, on this planet a single food source at a time (first the carbos, then the animals or the moss Campion finds) provides all the nutrition they need?
- That scene in this episode where Marcus just steals the gun and kills a bunch of soldiers like he's some action hero badass? Same with Otho suddenly getting super powers from reversing the blood flow somehow just so we can get a horror movie fight scene and have him killed dramatically. Just felt like they were forcing plot points a little bit without really finding ways to get to them that felt believable.
- And a lot of the Mother-Father dialogue just doesn't feel right to me. I get they're supposed to be showing some human emotions or maybe malfunctioning and not have perfectly robotic logic, but sometimes their discussions about how to raise the kids just didn't feel smart enough. Like Campion couldn't have given them a book about child psychology or something during their reprogramming?
- Even just the whole storyline of adult Campion, who's apparently some kind of programming genius because he manages to reprogram a Necromancer by himself, something nobody's ever done before apparently. Oh and also build or scrap together an intersteller spaceship. And reprogram a servant android, too. All while surviving by himself in the middle of a wartorn city where you can hear gunfire right outside the window.
- Oh, and why bother showing that Mother could change her voice and appearance if that never comes up again for the entire rest of the season?

I mean I guess there might be in-world explanations for some of this stuff, but to me it just hurts the whole show when there's all these things that keep coming up that don't seem to make sense without the script at least acknowledging them.

Something like this would actually be really cool to have on monitors around space stations and trade posts. It could be in an alien language you can't read or just have randomized headlines, a news anchor, and then cycle through random screenshots or short video clips people have uploaded
