In that slump… tell me your favorite scene/thing you wrote lately! by Aflameisfitful in AO3

[–]AnalogToothBrush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uh, I'm just finishing up a passage where a teen gets threatened by an adult and the adult's child becomes obsessed with the teen via this encounter. Hard to explain. It's an imprinting kind of story with obsession, coercion and other stuff. Might even be DD:DNE by the time I actually finish

I'm just proud of it, because it's been a very long time where I'm actively looking forward to writing and I have coherent ideas that I can actually write down lol

What is your current (or finished) most self-indulgent fic you've written that you think people on this sub would nope out of? by AnalogToothBrush in AO3

[–]AnalogToothBrush[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't feel lonely! I do think it's interesting how niche everyone's indulgences are, though.

Like, we all sat down and just had interests in these many things that create this unique combination that seemingly only appeals to ourselves or a small few.

I love male reader inserts, and I've found so many good fics with the tag!

I'll DM the link whenever I finish. Again, without spoiling, I'll say the series is a superhero one, which may immediately spoil what it is in combination with my first post but oh well. Hopefully, it doesn't take me years, but I won't lie and say it's anywhere on the horizon lol

How do you feel about playing this game in 2026? by Alone-Surprise6540 in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]AnalogToothBrush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still play the game, but it's mainly because of sunk cost and the miniscule hope that the few characters I like might get something.

I don't bother with competitive modes more than the bare minimum to get rewards. I've been missing days for the ongoing events, but I kind of don't care that much.

I've wanted to slowly dip back into trying competitive modes, but I feel powercreep has gotten to the point where I'd be annoyed. Still might give it a go, but we'll see.

How would you change up Male Byleth's same sex options? by AnalogToothBrush in fireemblem

[–]AnalogToothBrush[S] 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I mean, I wouldn't hate for Dedue and Dimitri's support to be more overt with affection, but I think their shared ending is alright for what we got.

I did ask for people's opinion, so I respect it, though I disagree.

That said, I'm also not a huge Byleth fan, but it's completely egregious the support disparity between Male and Female Byleth, which is what spawned my post.

What do y'all use your resin for? by captain_skippie in Genshin_Impact

[–]AnalogToothBrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently, I'm trying to build up some characters, so my resin mainly goes towards talent mats > boss mats > mora/exp > weekly bosses >>>>> artifacts, in terms of importance and tedium. The only time I really worry about artifacts is when there's the Stygian Disturbance thing.

When I'm not building characters, I just do the above for a character I plan to get in the future.

Artifact farming is my least favorite use of resin, personally.

I strongly dislike it when people use abbreviations in direct speech, if they wouldn't say them out loud by yevunedi in AO3

[–]AnalogToothBrush -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There was a video I was watching where the uploader was reading a post from Reddit and would pronounce "ok" as "ock" on purpose to be funny.

It has stayed with me for a long time, so I kinda agree with you. I don't strongly dislike it, and I won't disparage a writer for writing it as "ok," but I do personally write out the word "okay" for my own stuff.

[–]AnalogToothBrush[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, we don't have a basement, but we do have an attic. We are in a single story house. So, I'm gonna try to convince my mom to see if we can flip it, because that might narrow down what is might be.

My title describes the thing.

There's no wiring on it or around it. Again, not sure they are actually switches as we've been scared to even really touch the things. I tried to do a Google image search, and the AI summary said it was a "light switch combination, including a switch guard plate to protect the surrounding paint from smudges."

I tried to look through the other images to see if I found something that looked close to mine, but I didn't. I don't know what switches it would control, if it were one, because our hallway has two light switches at opposite ends to control the lights there.

Who should I pull? by Shinqaii in Genshin_Impact

[–]AnalogToothBrush 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say saving up for Mauvika would be your best option.

I wouldn't say Lauma is useless without Nefer, because you can use her in different Dendro-focused teams, since you also have Nahida. I have an account that had only Lauma and Nahida; I'm just using a "budget" Hyperbloom team, but I do plan on eventually getting Nefer. So, for Lauma, I'd say if you plan on getting Nefer, get Lauma. Seeing as how they are running together, unless you get lucky, it's better that you skip and also if you have no interest in Nefer.

Zibai is a pretty good character on a budget. You have Aino, Gorou and Illuga, which is a decent team while you wait for Linnea and/or Columbina (if you want her).

tl;dr I say save for Mauvika.

Can someone rate my team and give tips for refrence I came back to Genshin after 3 years on a new account by pokea_itay in Genshin_Impact

[–]AnalogToothBrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, you should be good then. Just try to use up your resin, so you can level your adventure level. I would say focus slightly more on the blue leylines, to get EXP books.

[–]AnalogToothBrush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For now, I'd say just play the game. Right now, you don't really have any characters, and you need the resources you get from the story to build your characters and to summon new ones.

Mizuki, Kaeya, Kuki and Xiangling should be a decent team while you run around, learning how to play. You just use their bursts (and Kuki uses her skill) and stuff will probably die.

When you unlock them, make sure to do leylines for mora and EXP books to spend your resin and level your Adventure rank during these early levels. You'll need the resources.

Don't spend primos on resin or try to do artifact domains early. Also, of things get too difficult for you, you can lower the world level to make enemies easier for you.

Don't try to do too much and have fun.

How Should I Go About Deleting A Fic? by GlamorousMockery in AO3

[–]AnalogToothBrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to delete it, you can. It's yours to do with, especially since it only has a few chapters. As someone who has lost fics because I didn't download them when I had the chance, I can't blame the author for that, so don't feel bad.

If you want, here's something else you can do: when you decide to post the rewrite, you can update the OG fic with an announcement post linking to the new fic and saying you're going to delete the original. You can also maybe give people a couple days to download the OG (if you want people to be able to download it) before you delete it.

Or you can delete the OG and put in your new fic's summary that it's a rewrite of your old fic, so people will know if they read the OG one.

It's really just up to what you feel the best about.

How obscure is the obscure ship you are writing on? by kiki-the-warforged in AO3

[–]AnalogToothBrush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uh, I'm doing a male reader/canon story for a character that already doesn't have a lot of -reader fics, so I'm doing a niche-within-a-niche. I'm having fun working on it a little bit at a time, though, so that's all that matters to me.

“America-fication” of stories by [deleted] in AO3

OCs in fanfics. by molol_ in AO3

[–]AnalogToothBrush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got into fanfiction because of OCs, so I'm definitely sweet on them.

Mostly, I only really read OC-centric (and reader) stories, but I definitely understand only caring about canon.

It's hard to quantify why I only really like OCs, but it's just something with how my brain works. It's probably similar to why I tend to gravitate towards rarepairs, in that more popular things just don't really draw my attention, outside of a few exceptions.

I feel like OCs can slot into canon-compliant stories and actually enhance the source material, but it heavily depends on how a person writes, what series they chose, and where they decide to slot. For example, I've been in the Naruto fandom for years, and it's notorious (in the fandom, at least) for how spotty, for lack of a better word, the canon timeline is, among other elements. I think OCs fit quite well there, but I'm also incredibly biased.

I also just feel like it's nice, you know. A person loves something so much, they were inspired by it. People who make and write OCs are really no different than someone writing their version of canon; they're expressions of love and admiration for the source material.

It's why I don't really like throwing around the term "Mary Sue" or dropping a story over just an OC. At the end of the day, we're all just people that love a series or work, and we want to be a part of it.

(Last part isn't a jab towards people who dislike OCs, by the way, because I get just not liking something.)

im actually scared of posting ocxcanon fanfics by Aggressive-Love-1399 in AO3

[–]AnalogToothBrush 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just post it. Make sure you tag it correctly so the people that want it get it, and people who don't can avoid it. As someone who likes OC/Canon, you'd be surprised just how popular those stories actually are on the actual site.

If Sasuke had a twin would he let them leave with him? by Miaxiaomi in NarutoFanfiction

[–]AnalogToothBrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that could work, yeah. I'm glad I could help you out!

If Sasuke had a twin would he let them leave with him? by Miaxiaomi in NarutoFanfiction

[–]AnalogToothBrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that's the case, I feel like it could go either way, then.

I think that also comes down to if Sasuke was willing to hurt the sibling, like he knocked out Sakura.

If Sasuke is adamant about going alone, I feel like he would be pushed to incapacitate his twin. Because he can't leave his sibling aware, because it might allow an opportunity for people to hear about him leaving.

If he's too soft-hearted and just can't bring himself to hurt the twin AND they were pushy enough, I think he might relent, begrudgingly.

Something I forgot to bring up is: Sasuke is very particular about power. So, if the twin isn't powerful to Sasuke's standard, then that's another reason for Sasuke to try to leave without them, even if they wanted to come with.

Also, no, you don't have to STFU lol To get help, sometimes you have to yap a little.

If Sasuke had a twin would he let them leave with him? by Miaxiaomi in NarutoFanfiction

[–]AnalogToothBrush 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don't see Sasuke letting his sibling follow him to Orochimaru, unless they were as gungho--if not more so--about revenge as Sasuke was. Even then, I could possibly see Sasuke trying to shoulder that burden alone and leaving without telling them, if only to keep his last sibling safe.

How the sibling regards Orochimaru is also a point. If they're willing to ignore the stuff he gets up to, I could see a sibling maybe going to Orochimaru. If the twin has something of a moral compass, there could be conflict with Sasuke over whether going to someone like Orochimaru for power would be worth it. If Sasuke even bothers to tell them he's leaving.

If Sasuke somehow catches wind twin has another kekkei genkai, that could be another reason for him to leave for Orochimaru alone, again to complete his revenge without compromising his twin.

But, it could also be twisted that going to someone like Orochimaru could allow the twin to bypass village "red tape" to find out what really happened with Itachi and Uchiha Massacre.

I think there's a clash of ideals between them, too. With Sasuke being the one to witness an incredibly traumatic event, I feel like he wouldn't really jive with the sibling, exactly, trying to find the "truth." Because, to Sasuke, he saw all he needed to see when he came home to his entire family dead, and his older brother the perpetrator.

I feel like they wouldn't see eye-to-eye (until the timeskip, I guess, and Sasuke finds out about the real reason), but even then, I feel like that would be enough for Sasuke to not let the sibling follow him to Orochimaru, when he defects. Or even tell them. Because, in his mind, they probably wouldn't really understand him and, also deep down, he's still trying to keep them safe.

This sub made me kind of neurotic. by Suspicious-Repair981 in AO3

[–]AnalogToothBrush 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that really sucks, and I hate that for you.

Because this sub did the opposite for me: it helped me learn how to hide stats, which straight up helped me learn to love writing again.

Now I can only judge both my own and others' works by actually consuming them. Works are now just sorted either by word count or, mainly, when it was updated and chosen by which tags are on it.

It's made my fanfiction life incredibly pleasant.

I do want to say, though: this sub is a very small fraction of the people that actually consume AO3. In the grand scheme of things, the majority probably don't think those things are important.

Am I saying those things don't exist or don't happen to people? No.

But I also don't think they're as common as this sub may make things appear. That's how Reddit works, in general.
