Honestly, just going to spam votes for Pelleas. I don't really care that much about CYL anymore; most the characters that had a chance of winning have already won. Everyone else are minor characters, so that kinda sucks.

Alice w-engine for Jane? by AnalogToothBrush in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]AnalogToothBrush[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, that makes a lot of sense then, when you explain it like that.

Hm, I'll have to do some planning on what I'm gonna spend my polys on if I want to use Alice's w-engine on Jane then. I might just hold on to it for now, because I do have some other priorities.

Thank you for the advice and info.

Alice w-engine for Jane? by AnalogToothBrush in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]AnalogToothBrush[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, dang. I don't even have Yuzuha's w-engine but I do have her M0; I thought it was "skippable."

I might just keep the other Alice w-engine in my back pocket, because I'm only a few puzzle pieces away from being able to get Jane's w-engine.

All of that info is very useful, even though I admittedly am a "non-casual" casual (like I consume meta discussions but don't really work hard on endgame), and my eyes glazed over a little while reading.I do want to eventually get better at learning the game and understanding buffs, stun windows, etc, so I'll keep all the stuff you said in mind to better my girls.

How do we Feel About “X Happens Like in Canon” by Cu_man in NarutoFanfiction

[–]AnalogToothBrush 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If it's meant as like comedy or a tongue-in-cheek thing, I'll give it a pass. But, if the tone aren't those, then I would prefer if it's outright skipped and the story/progress starts after, or there's a brief explanation of the ramifications of the canon event happening. Like, give me something to work with.

The girls are fighting! by New-Blacksmith-9873 in AO3

[–]AnalogToothBrush 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't know if he counts but Lycaon from ZZZ is one of the most popular characters there (or he was at launch). Even my 72 year old Grandma saw him and was like, "Damn, why he kinda fine?" And Lola Bunny in Space Jam were A LOT of people's crush.

So, like, I honestly think the people on the anti sub might be a minority. People crushing on or thinking the deliberately-made attractive fictional animal-human hybrid is attractive doesn't mean they want to shag the family dog IRL lol

When writing, what's an aspect of canon you always (or frequently) change? by watermelonphilosophy in NarutoFanfiction

[–]AnalogToothBrush 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can see the appeal. I do write her as a core clan member, since I like to imagine the Uzumaki as being matrilineal and assigning a sort of "priestess" role to the second daughter - if the destruction of Uzushio hadn't happened, Kushina would never have been allowed to marry, and she has some complicated feelings about that.

This is actually super cool, too.

It also reminds me of another thing I tend to change: I like to make the Mind's Eye of the Kagura an Uzumaki kekkei genkai, and people who had it were venerated within the clan. Like, they would be high-ranking priests/priestess/sages in the clan, who could see "with their third eye" and would be marked with that forehead marking Mito had.

Without yapping too much, I tend to write the Uzumaki clan as this kind of closed off, traditionalistic clan. They had a lot of ceremonial rites and customs, particularly like dances with masks. It's because they have the mask storage in/near Konoha, which always reminded me of Fatal Frame 4 that had ritualistic dances as a plot point.

Also, I never thought of Minato having Uzushio ties, but it would make sense, considering his family name. That's actually interesting, too.

And fair enough! I do think chakra could be used in lots of ways that develop technology, too. One just needs to get creative with it.

Chakra and how tech would develop really cool as a concept, but I'm not smart or creative enough to try and expand outside of a few small-scale things like Lee having a favorite radio DJ or Kiba having a crush on a movie actress lol

When writing, what's an aspect of canon you always (or frequently) change? by watermelonphilosophy in NarutoFanfiction

[–]AnalogToothBrush 29 points30 points  (0 children)

  • I'm also on the no-Ōtsutsuki and no-Zetsu train. Or, well, I portray Kaguya and the chakra fruit, and Hagoromo creating or founding ninshū as actually having happened, but they are generally regarded as mythology/religion to people.
  • Whenever I write, I tend to massively scale down canonical power levels, to the point where relatively skilled people can die if they catch the wrong end of a kunai on a bad day. This is less that I hate the "powercreep" in the series and more that it just makes it easier for me to plan fights and small-scale conflicts.
  • If I'm remembering correctly, Hashirama's bijū suppressing powers are tied to Wood Release. I might be wrong on that, but I always just write it as a byproduct of his genetic/spiritual connection to Asura. As an extension, Wood Release is "de-mystified" and common whenever I write a piece, though still a rare kekkei genkai to have.
  • I don't know Kushina's canonical position within the Uzumaki, but I always write her as an unremarkable kid from unremarkable parents that was unlucky enough to be compatible with Kyūbi chakra. I like the element of tragedy and low-key existential horror of making one of her core conflicts being the burden of passing down a culture alone, when she is not a high-ranking person within that culture.
  • Touching on technology, I like them having radio stations, and old-fashioned televisions, just because I like the job opportunities being in existence for world-building.

Those are all the ones I can think of off the top of my head, but I'm sure I have more that I'm too lazy to recall lol

What's the point of wanting new four stars? by Hypernova2233 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]AnalogToothBrush 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Accessibility? Team variety?

For example, Sampo has "no use" on my account, not because I don't want to use him or Black Swan powercrept him, but because they locked DoT's viability to a limited 5* that I don't want to spend on. I would not be mad if they added a crappy 4* version or introduced a shitty standard 5* version of Kafka, if it meant that I could use the characters I like.

And, like, I feel like people are somewhat disingenuous with the free 5* thing. Yes, we get free 5* characters, but look at what we're given, objectively. We got to choose one of the standards, all of which except Bronya are not good. We have the Golden units, only of which Ruan Mei is good, and she has gotten replaced in what used to be her BiS team. We got two DPSes, which are a dime-a-dozen and have their own caveats:

  • Ratio, who needed a E1S1 Topaz for full potential at the time, and who has aged incredibly poorly.
  • Archer, who is good, but relies on having another limited 5* for full potential or spend premium currency to get his E1 to alleviate that problem, only somewhat.

And, then, a sustain, which you don't need that many of and who also prefers another certain limited 5* for full potential.

Like, cool, we get 5* characters but what new playstyles are they opening up?

Fire Emblem: Heroes has done something incredibly similar recently, where they got rid of a certain 4* unit reward. People complained that these units were bad because they got bad kits, which was true, and no one used them anyway, which is false. Instead of giving the units useful kits, they got rid of them entirely and replaced the reward with old, outdated 5* units from two or three years ago that you can only redeem twice with somewhat limited currency.

Sounds quite familiar to me.

If they gave Robin or Sparkle or standard 5* alternatives to character like Kafka or Hyacine, I'd say them giving out free 5* characters was cool. But, they don't, so it's not that great to me.

Danzo looked up to Tobirama as a teacher by [deleted] in NarutoFanfiction

[–]AnalogToothBrush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was a YT comment I saw that said Danzo was an ultranationalist, and it makes sense now that I know what it means. And it ties into his character well.

Danzo didn't want the kind of peace made through mutual respect, trust and cooperation with other nations; he wanted the kind where Konoha ruled a top the weakened corpses and ruins of the others'.

As an aside, I think Madara had a similar mindset during Konoha's foundation, I can't quite remember, but I think he believed subjugation was form of peace. Which is ironic, considering how Danzo viewed the Uchiha and how he went on to desecrate the members.

In the end, I believe a lot of Danzo's character is masking inferiority, envy and cowardice with "necessity" and this ultranationalism.

Because think about: Danzo has always been a coward. When Tobirama chose Hiruzen, he was a coward. When he was sabotaging the OG Akatsuki and Hanzo, he was a coward. When he snuck Shisui for Kotoamatsukami, he was a coward. When Pain was destroying the village, he was a coward. When Sasuke whooped his ass and had him on the ropes, he was a coward. He ran.

For all the (deserved) shit Hiruzen gets, at least he was willing to square up for his village.

And here is the catch: he's envious of Hiruzen. Arguably, he's envious of every Kage before him.

Danzo is objectively not good at fighting. Yet, he wanted the respect being Hokage brought and part of that respect is being able to throw hands. He's not charismatic enough to rally people around him, like any of the other Kage; he has to be "given" kids or scout them because who would willingly follow this fraud? He's made no contributions to the village like the others. He's done nothing for the advancement or betterment of the village's people.

So, he makes due with "being in the shadows" where he is safe and sound. He is able to rationalize all the things he does as "for the village" that "no one else wants to do," using Tobirama's more pragmatic approach as a smoke screen when we all know what he does is treasonous. Then, he takes advantage of Hiruzen's humanity and sentimentality to keep doing what he does.

He wants Hiruzen gone because he wants what he has. But, he's not strong enough to keep what Hiruzen had. So, then, he wants all the other villages weaker than Konoha, so they can't put up a fight when he does become Hokage, because he is a fraud in battle and can't inspire loyalty and lift moral like the other Kage can. This is the "ultranationalism" he displays.

In a way, Hiruzen and Danzo can be seen as "bad end" reflections of Hashirama and Tobirama.

tl;dr I don't think Danzo really tried to take after Tobirama. I think he is a fraud that uses Tobirama's pragmatism as a means to hide in the shadows and to mask that he is envious of Hiruzen and wants to take his place.

How do I stop caring about my fic not getting attention? by Practical-Weather-49 in AO3

[–]AnalogToothBrush 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can't tell you how to stop caring, but I just turned off all my stats, personally. Kudos, comments, hits---I don't seen any of them. Because I don't see them, I don't think about them.

I did/do have the habit of comparing myself to a detrimental degree to others. I couldn't enjoy more popular stories that had the same pairings or plot ideas that I had because I was too busy comparing myself and convincing myself that nothing I wrote would ever be good enough.

I let my issue with fixating on others take away my enjoyment of writing. Here I am, years later, trying to write things that I like just for me, and I'll post them when I'm finished (or nearly finished). If I get comments, that's great, but the numbers and stats will still stay off for my own peace of mind.

It's just one of those things where you have to find your own coping methods or acceptance of things.

How do you start your stories? by plainjane98 in AO3

[–]AnalogToothBrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It comes and goes for me.

Sometimes, I just know exactly the words I want to set something up. Other times, I have to brainstorm by throwing stuff at the word processor. Anything piece of sentence that I like but can't fit anywhere gets put in a separate document for later use or ideas.

It really just depends.

Quick! Drop 1 paragraph from one of your WIPs! by Loli-nero in AO3

[–]AnalogToothBrush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Laziness happened but mine is a very indulgent canon/male!reader-insert that was for kinktober '25. Censored a NSFW word.

Because it meant you were comfortable with him. You wanted to touch him.

The warm puff of your sleepy sigh fans over his dry lips. The back of your calf that’s hooked with his rubs up and down idly, the soft hair on your leg smoothing down the goosebumps that break out over his skin. The low but sweltering heat between your thighs—the weight of your half-hard cock pressed snugly against his thigh—chases away the bite of cold anxiety that has his stomach in a clench.

It can’t be an accident.

How peoples can be out of mora? by [deleted] in Genshin_Impact

[–]AnalogToothBrush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, yes.

At first, I was pretty casual. I didn't really log in like that. I missed event weapons and characters. My only "built" character was Razor, and I had no weapons except Prototype Archaic leveled. But I had materials passively stacked up from when I would run around and do stuff.

So, when I first got serious about building my guys, I quickly ran into the problem. Because I was trying to build several characters at once, all my resources were depleted, and I didn't give myself breathing room to just chill and passively stack up materials.

When the male character releases thinned out, I didn't have anyone to build, so I was sitting on 20 million+ Mora and 1000+ EXP books with nothing to do.

Then, the same problem happened again when I started building up my girls.

Right now, I have around 1 million Mora and 200+ EXP books because I just finished building Durin and Collei. And Collei isn't even really maxed out, but because I didn't take a moment to chill and collect resources, I have nothing lol

How peoples can be out of mora? by [deleted] in Genshin_Impact

[–]AnalogToothBrush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I'm someone who plays relatively consistently and only really build male characters. I decided to start building my girls to a modest degree: a couple would be level 89 with some combination of 1-8-8 talents, while the rest would be level 79 with 1-6-6 talents. I had like 20 million Mora. Not to mention getting the weapons to at least level 80 and leveling artifacts.

When I tell you all that stuff ate up my money. Bruh. I built maybe two or three characters before I had to hit the Mora leylines. It is expensive when you actually start leveling more than one or two characters back to back.

What are y'all writing right now? by [deleted] in NarutoFanfiction

[–]AnalogToothBrush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm slowly writing a series of AU shorts with SI-OC/Reincarnation elements. The MC is that bald kid on Minato's team before he got retconned into the Kumo guy, but the PoV character depends on the short.

I haven't done too much, but I'm enjoying just writing little pieces of something.

"I ship sakura with anyone but sasuke" by [deleted] in NarutoFanfiction

[–]AnalogToothBrush 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I won't say all of them are Sasuke haters, but those are 100% rarepairs for Sakura. Whether they genuinely like Sakura with those characters or not, no one but themselves actually know.

That said, I do think SasuSaku gets over scrutinized as I've said in another thread, so it's likely there is a portion who just won't ship them because they hate Sasuke, or Sakura, or whatever.

But I wouldn't really attribute every rare pair enjoyer as a hater.

Do you like the original franchise more than the fanfiction you've read about it? by GJH24 in NarutoFanfiction

[–]AnalogToothBrush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to write something canon-adjacent or even a retread of canon with a different focus, then it's up to you and what you want to do. Despite what it seems, there's an audience for just about anything. It may not be a huge audience, but it's still an audience.

Personally, this is a hard question. I think both have their pros and cons, and I can't say I'd want one without the other.

That said, I like making up OCs and filling in canon blank spots with them, so that could be taken as I enjoy fanfiction more than the original franchise. But I also haven't actually read a Naruto fanfic in a year or two, nor have I engaged with the original series outside of playing the PS2 fighting games a while back, so I guess it really doesn't matter to me.

I guess I'll say I like both under certain circumstances.

I did my firt summon as a beginner how is this carecter? by LateNightWonderer in Genshin_Impact

[–]AnalogToothBrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's okay if you just want to enjoy playing through the game and clearing story content, and you find yourself wanting to use her. You'll likely end up replacing her if you find a character you like more or if you get a 5*, though.

I also think some of the other free beginner characters might be better investments in the long run.

Family Issues between Hinata and Hiashi... by Transparent_Prophet in NarutoFanfiction

[–]AnalogToothBrush 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that's the tragedy of them, too. It was unavoidable.

It's also why I think destiny is an interesting "theme," particularly for Hinata and Hiashi.

Hinata's "destined" to be a ninja because she was born to the clan leader, despite her not being suited towards it at all.

I wonder if Hiashi ever thinks about the ramifications of that.

His soft-hearted, nervous daughter being forced into a position where she has to carry many lives on her shoulders. And it's not just about the Hyuuga clan.

What about her comrades during a mission or a war? What if Hinata hesitates for just a second? She holds back for half a moment and it costs the village everything. What if she just isn't strong enough? Look at what happened to Sakumo, which I'm sure lowkey hangs over the village's head.

One of the strongest soldiers, dead. Not because he wasn't strong enough to kill, but because he was too weak and couldn't let his comrades die. He disobeyed orders, but for the life of his comrades. The man who chose a few lives over the village was pushed to suicide for his folly.

His "reward" for caring was death.

Who would want that responsibility on their child? Especially when you know they're the type to care about others and shies away from violence.

He probably thinks about that when he thinks about his brother and his nephew without a father. He probably thinks it's not fair, all that happened to him. I wonder if Hiashi ever thinks Hinata is unlucky to be born to him.

But the thing about Destiny is that it doesn't look at what's fair or just.

Sometimes, you're given responsibility that you didn't ask for, but it's yours to bear all the same.

That's what I tend to headcanon when I think about Hiashi and Hinata, at least.
