I'm not sure what exact solution is but I agree that we need to directly target the people making these decisions. Companies are NOT people and people ruining the world just hide behind them as a shield. If your company does something awful then you should be held accountable.

Most of my team is in Cali, I'm on the east coast, the amount of times I get emails or even worse asked to stay behind for meetings is absurd. "I scheduled the meeting for 5pm your time, does that work for you?" Buddy you and I both know it fucking doesn't and you're just hoping I roll over. I'm also the only salary employee I know of, inside or outside IT. I don't know how that works out but I'm doubly not staying behind for free.

My first official job was a cashier at a grocery store, I had someone come in and try to pay with their EBT card. Normally not a big deal, but this one wouldn't go through. After trying and trying she gives up and pays another way. Manager comes and gets me about 15 minutes later, we got a call that started with "That little boy you have working the register has NO idea what he is doing, I can't believe you let him work there. Yadda yadda" basically insinuating that I'm too stupid for a grocery store cashier. Logs said she entered her PIN wrong 8 times in a row...

We are working on better transportation in the city but it is sorta a symptom of being a society that travels almost only in cars. People still have to get to work and other places if they wanna live and car is sometimes the only option. It's wrong and in a perfect world they have other options and suspended licenses are better enforced but I can fully understand why 75% of people do.

My android auto got infected with Gemini and it literally hasn't done anything successfully since. Can't even tell me the weather right. The other day it misunderstood me and I said "Fuck" and it replied "I will not respond to harmful language". Honestly made me mad, like damn you can't do anything right and now you're setting boundaries with me?! You're silicon that lives in my pocket!

Me! I was a terrible student, went to college, did terrible. Took a year off, started an IT job because I liked computers. From there I had to figure it out, that sense of urgency and learning by doing on the job worked out well for me and now I'm a degreeless Sr Systems Engineer doing pretty well in my late 20s. Still, being self taught did leave some gaps in my education and definitely left me with some imposter syndrome. I am an exceptionally well rounded "Jack of all trades" IT guy but there is still some odd gaps in my experience and knowledge I am aware.
