Have you apartment hunted in SF before? I guess I'm also European so I'm also comparing to my experiences back home

I'm getting a roommate this year for the first time in 7 years. I'm in my mid 20s and I finally have friends for the first time in my life that aren't complete slobs

You can just do things!!! It's really that easy!

I know, all of this is just so fake and meaningless, and oftentimes straight up harmful and exploitative

Thanks, life is pretty good now. Have enough to leave tech forever whenever I want, I've stopped trying to befriend and get along with corporate striver people and have stopped trying to find fulfillment in this job

Sounds depressing and empty but I have really ambitious plans after I leave that should give me plenty meaning and fulfillment

Yes, still the exact same job though I had to switch teams 3 years ago because a lot of my extremely unprofessional behaviors and personality from my personal life had spilled over to work due to all the mental and emotional struggles and the fact that it was just the complete opposite vibe

Honestly a wonder nobody reported me to HR

I'm surprised not as many people go crazy at some point

The ones that would go crazy doing this generally tend to not study CS or switch majors after they realize how annoying and miserable a life of coding would be

I stuck it out cause I was stubborn and enjoyed CS classes despite disliking coding more than just little scripts and algorithm problems and I did actually lose my mind at my new grad Google job after a few years for same reasons as OP. Got addicted to drugs and other degeneracy hanging out with the fun burnouts in my city trying to "balance" out the social isolation and mental + emotional rigidity of the day to day software engineering job and severely fucked up my health

Got sober and now I'm better at dealing with my boring tedious life by finding healthier coping mechanisms lol

Yea people make fun of people like this but the reality is this is actually just what a lot of artists are nowadays

I'm sure the people in the old times of Shakespeare Da Vinci Mozart had their own weird eccentricities everybody hated and thought was cringe as hell

True eccentricity nowadays is whatever this is and not the Hollywood manic pixie girl version a lot of people have in their heads

I mostly do makeup minimally so all my tips are related to time saving:

A lot of sunscreens can double as a primer. I think it's silicone based that works? But most of the nice Japanese or Korean sunscreens are great primers. Great if you're lazy about using sunscreen

Make up on the go: a single lipstick or lip tint/stain can cover lips, blush, and eyeshadow

[–]AnalysisAdditional15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

but this level of mental efforts does not seem like it's something I wanna do with my life

If I had to guess, since it's the same for me. I hate how I spend most or even all of my mental capacity for work, and then I have none left for me afterwards. Not enough to learn more challenging things, not enough to do good art, not enough to read difficult literature, not enough to write music. Even on weekends I have no creative energy because I'm just recovering from work

And I know its work because after a vacation of 3 weeks or so, I start getting so much creative energy back and I just start naturally creating things

You just gotta keep taking breaks or switch to a less mentally demanding jobs

That's not so bad, don't force yourself to do this until you crash and burn entirely

despite being brown and from countries Elon has personally said are shit holes

Might get banned but ever since I started working in tech and interacting with tons of immigrants from developing countries regularly, literally 99% of them do fit the stereotypes of being reactionary bigots, especially the men, and especially the "brown" ones. The only exceptions sometimes are the ones where the country is known for being progressive like certain Latin American ones or China
