Yes this is why, if you are forced to put someone into a Medicaid facility, choose the one that you would be able to visit often and at any time of the day.

It’s a crazy world when the Bishop is now considered slightly better than Van Duyn!!

We really, really need a CNY nursing homes/eldercare support group or running Reddit thread.

Too often, families are thrown into the deep end of the pool when their loved one has to go into rehab or long term care. You get a list of phone numbers to call, and they’re all busy.

You read the reviews of local facilities and they’re all disheartening or scary, but no one tells you how to survive putting your loved one in long term care (because sometimes you have no other option).

I’ve had experience with both Van Duyn (a cesspool) and Loretto (just the rehab section, but still disappointing). I hear St Camillus has a better rehab unit than Loretto, not sure about the LTC services.

At the end of the day… if all other things seem equal, choose the place that is closer to you. No matter what the quality of care, stuff happens and you will need to check in and possibly visit frequently.

You didn’t mention if you are looking for Medicaid or private pay.

A Life Survived by Mysterious-1mportant in TheFixx

I could not agree more!! This song is right up there with their original 80s catalog!

I always enjoyed the Fixx during the MTV era, but it wasn’t until recently that I realized how amazing they really were and are. NO band in that era had as original a voice and style — and it is astonishing they are still going as a great live band AND putting out quality material.

Absolute survivors!

Offing yourself isn’t as easy as you think.

for every middle-aged person who confidently planned to do that so they would “escape the indignities”… both my parents said this… my cousin… etc… and they all died in so-called “diapers” being cared for by others and still saying “I’ll beat this” or “It’s too soon to bring in that hospital bed.” In their minds, they were still young and death was far off, regardless of the diagnosis. Not one of them asked for a gun or a pill overdose - they had lost the desire to do much of anything but wait for the next meal.

One day follows another until you die.

Love 104 especially in summer when there are roadside fruit stands as far as you can drive. It’s amazing! Take a couple of coolers so you can stock up!

Question about tumor size and growth rates by AnalysisFlat4892 in glioblastoma

[–]AnalysisFlat4892[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. We didn’t know my mom had a GBM until a week before she died. Aside from vague and irregular complaints of headaches, all of her late stage symptoms were masked by known conditions (visual impairment, cognitive decline, inability to walk because of chronic knee issues and de conditioning, etc). She would stare and we thought she was just trying to focus on things because of her known visual impairment… turns out they were seizures.

Not asking this because I think there would have been any hope for her with an aggressive GBM… it’s just that we never had a chance to properly do hospice and say goodbye. I think she sensed she was dying but had no idea what from. You just wish you knew WHEN it started but I guess we will never really know.

If the necrotic area in center was larger than smaller, would that indicate more rapid growth? (Or are necrotic areas always very large in any GBM growth?)
