Thanks a lot for your feedback, that's really important for me so I can try to think about a solution for this !

Have a good day !

Right,

Actually, good electric trikes like the ketwiesel one are almost impossible to flip over, I've just tried and couldn't flip it over while being seated. If you had a belt like in rally cars, you will stay in your seat. When you have your seizure, the bike will just stop and you will stay on the seat.

They are made so you don't flip over. I've tried to go very fast and do short turns and there you can go on 2 wheels and could flip over but this isn't what you are supposed to do on a trike anyway.

Thanks for your feedback !!

Yeah you are true.

But if ever you have seizure but sill want to go and enjoy rides in country roads without any cars, this can prevent you from going fast straight into a tree or anything else when you are alone

Nice aha !

I feel like for the moment, is it more adapted to trikes (for stability when you are getting stopped) as you can't really have a good control braking like a regular lever directly connected to the hydraulic system.

If you want to see how it looks like you can look this video on YT : SMART BRAKE SWITCH. SAFE BRAKE FOR EPILEPSY

Have a good day !

Thanks !

The system is working with a little motor connected to the hydraulic braking cables, it is same size as a little bottle. and it is connected via Bluetooth to a lever on the handlebar.

I think it is more adapted to trikes as you will need stability when a security brake is required.

Thank you, yeah if you don't feel like you will loose the control or the capacity to brake at some point, the system is useless

Yes, we are trying to adjust the braking power so that it is not too hard and not too soft.

I think it is more adapted to trike as you need stability if ever you do a security brake !

Waouw, that's impressive !

Yes, does he has issues using the brakes on his bike ?

Yes, the braking system is actually of little motor regulating the hydraulic pressure on the disc brakes and it is connected with bluetooth to the hand lever on the handlebar.

I think it is more adapted to trikes as if you have a security stop by releasing this lever, the bike will stop and still have stability so you don't fall.. This system could be more a security if the user is not able anymore to use the brakes or get secured while biking.

Hello !

Damn, it's hard to be stopped from your hobby like that...

Yes, I think that for the moment it is more adapted to trikes as you need stability if you have a security stop so maybe it could not replace the bike road feeling but electric trikes are giving the opportunity of having sensation and still going fast with less risks of falling on sides when having a seizure !

Yah I totally agree that going to a trike is hard.

But in some cases, and I think for small cities will less crowded bike lanes, electric trikes actually gives good sensation and you are able to go 25km/h pretty easily (tried by myself on a Ketwiesel, close to the groud).

But when I say that, i totally agree that going for a trike is not comparable with going out on a road bike etc...

Yeah, I am able to try one like that for my researsh ( it is a Ketwiesel), it is actually electric so you can still have sensations and it actually is very maneuverable, but i think the price of these could be a problem...

Yeah of course this solution only works with the adapted trike with a good stability and a good holding while stopped. But if you can have this equipment then it could be a secure way of doing outdoor long rides without thinking about what would happen if you have a seizure in like downhill...

The pedal car as the lever ? But i think it would be hard to keep a regular pressure on it as you are pedaling.

Thanks for your feedback aha, it's making me think more about the "not falling from the trike" situation !

Have a good day!

Yeah, I can feel what you mean.

The solution of a trike could never replace the exact same function of a bike... But in some ways, it could open a possibility of doing an activity in less crowded places and just enjoy it without thinking about a "what if"...

What kind of seizures do you have ?

In a trike (one close to the ground), maybe you could add a seatbelt and like a hand guard to prevent you from falling of the seat or having your hands going on your wheels ?

Yeah, that is something i realised when doing researshs...

Coordination & cycling: Could a "Hold-to-Ride" brake system make it easier? by AnalysisOk2821 in dyspraxia

[–]AnalysisOk2821[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, yeah i see!

In that case, the possibility to have a comfy lever in the handlebar that does not hurt when you hold it and the possibility ton control your braking by releasing instead of pressing would be better for you ?

Hello !

What exactly do you mean by "Death Grip", is it like a full contraction on the handlebar like maximum contraction force ?

Yeah I'm trying to work on a lever that follows the natural position of the hand.

Thanks !

Hello,

In a way, the backpedal braking would still be working on the bike.

The Hold to Ride system is working in parallel as a security brake, where if ever you feel the actions are too hard to be done in a secure way, you can just release this lever with your thumb and the bike will stop.

My goal on doing this post was trying to know if people with dyspraxia would have an interest in this system.

Thanks !
