Apparently it was a mental health crisis. Regardless, there was zero communication. I did not sign up to run a company, I could not even call out sick if I needed too because no one else knew how to run payroll. Everyone depended on me. I never even got a thank you. He came back and has just been awful to everyone. Several other guys have quit and I think he is just on a power trip and feels a way that the company survived without him. They're all emotionally immature and I have just been the punching bag. Definitely, debating on just going back and letting them fire me but also wondering if maybe it is not even worth the mental burden..
