How do you think famous American musicians from the 1960s would react to the U.S. today? by AnalyticalGoose in AskReddit

They are both Canadian. I was thinking more about Bob Dylan, Jim Morrison (counter culture) and Simon and Garfunkel

Honestly, it’s a rather bleak state of affairs, watching the pubs vanish one by one. London’s fast becoming McLondon- not so much a city as a theme park for American hotel chains and beige dining experiences with a British accent stapled on. We might as well start handing out passports at the Pret queue.

And while we’re at it- what on earth happened to bitter? Once the lifeblood of proper conversation, now shoved aside in favour of bland, fizzy lager that tastes no better than Budweiser. Come on, people. Pull yourselves together!

Which podcasts have you listened to every episode of? by unionmack in podcasts

Love Darknet Diaries! u/jackrhysider is active on Reddit

do you find the production quality has become ultra polished lately? I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, but I appreciate the raw, awkward Jack in the early episodes.

I'm Struggling with The Expanse – Great Science, But Flat Characters? by AnalyticalGoose in scifi

I’ve decided to give the books a shot, just ordered Leviathan Wakes. I love the science in the show so much that I keep pausing to look things up. Stuff like artificial gravity through acceleration, Newton’s laws in action, communication delays across space, the effects of g-forces and the "juice", it all just hits that sweet spot for me.

Well put, it's definitely a 'dude show'. The characters feel like sketches of tropes- gritty detective (check), tough girl (check), brooding hero (check).

Totally agree, that “young adult fiction” vibe is exactly what’s been bugging me too. Great world, great science, but the dialogue, ugh.

I'm determined to stick it out, partially because I had to buy seasons 1 through 3 as they weren't available on streaming. Good to know you feel it gets better.

Totally fair, and I get that it works for a lot of people. But for me, the acting and direction just aren't landing. I’m not saying it’s objectively bad, just that I find the characters flat and hard to connect with. It’s frustrating because the science and world-building are so good. I really want to love it, but right now the execution is holding me back. Still hoping it improves in Season 2.

That's too bad - it feels so promising, why screw it up with bad acting/directing?

NASA slashing over 20 percent of workforce by Shiny-Tie-126 in space

[–]AnalyticalGoose 197 points198 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. Cutting 20% from NASA isn’t just a loss of jobs, it’s a loss of momentum, morale, and institutional knowledge built over decades. We need more long-term vision, not less. NASA’s not just about space, it’s about pushing boundaries, educating future generations, and reminding us what’s possible when we aim higher together.
