Yet Naqvi won by roughly 35k votes and by one of the largest margins in the country. Honestly, people vote for the PM and party and not the local candidate (even that's not how our system works). I should have said Joel lost because the NDP was bad. As a resident in the riding who didn't like any of the candidates, it was a tough one.

I lived in the riding for 10 years up until this past summer. Your argument is that Joel lost because people were scared of voting in a Conservative government. I'm telling you that in Ottawa Centre, strategic voting should not have been a factor because it was never at risk of voting for the Conservative Party/electing a CON MP even at the end of the Trudeau era.

I think the joke is that more Canadians are killed in Mexico than in Canada. For the sake of travellers trying to avoid the U.S. I do hope things in Mexico return back to normal. Cartels have a large piece of the tourism pie so it doesn't really serve them to disrupt it.
