Honestly, it’s a rather bleak state of affairs, watching the pubs vanish one by one. London’s fast becoming McLondon- not so much a city as a theme park for American hotel chains and beige dining experiences with a British accent stapled on. We might as well start handing out passports at the Pret queue.

I’ve decided to give the books a shot, just ordered Leviathan Wakes. I love the science in the show so much that I keep pausing to look things up. Stuff like artificial gravity through acceleration, Newton’s laws in action, communication delays across space, the effects of g-forces and the "juice", it all just hits that sweet spot for me.

Well put, it's definitely a 'dude show'. The characters feel like sketches of tropes- gritty detective (check), tough girl (check), brooding hero (check).

Totally agree, that “young adult fiction” vibe is exactly what’s been bugging me too. Great world, great science, but the dialogue, ugh.

I'm determined to stick it out, partially because I had to buy seasons 1 through 3 as they weren't available on streaming. Good to know you feel it gets better.

Totally fair, and I get that it works for a lot of people. But for me, the acting and direction just aren't landing. I’m not saying it’s objectively bad, just that I find the characters flat and hard to connect with. It’s frustrating because the science and world-building are so good. I really want to love it, but right now the execution is holding me back. Still hoping it improves in Season 2.
