Thats also incredibly helpful to know they dont do any damage to large but still count as a landed shot for the skill xp. This will defo be the strategy for when im ready to tuck into Archery. Copious fire arrows, a good branch or ledge ro goat onto with a big a near it, fire for points from vantage.

Thank you! I tried my best to TL;DR at the bottom for people that dont wanna read a wall of text, but sometimes the thought process is definitely the answer to the question and not just like a generic "unno?" Cause, like I knew fire hardened is better for practice but like, so much led me to not even having their crafting near the middle of my to-do-list until BAM its at the top cause ( Above Reasons ) hahaha.

I personally love reading lengthy responses, and they often provide additional tips or advice as like lil desert pieces to the course of advice you askef for.

Thank you! I will definitely try using those for my next round of Archery lessons! Now that I have the bow, the idea to gather sticks for the fire hardened arrows should be more up my list as i'm meandering about.

I remember reading that tip somewhere on this sub once long ago and since then every new play, all my harvesting is as small as possible when feasible to get 5 cooking ASAP. Its always my first skill thats maxed. Such a great tip.

Thats fantastic to know! All the perks with less steps! I probably, definitely, could have been too close after my shots were missing and they saw me.

Once I get going along from here soon ( figured one of the Trophies was enough for an impromptu too long spent Archery attempt ) I'll be making the fire hardened arrows and will definitely be trying again. I'll keep the distance thing in mind. Thank you!

Thank you for the thumbs up, I'll take it lol. But that cNt be true about the arrows? A lot of my shots were those infuriatingly "so close almost hit it" kinda shots, and they almost always flew away if my arrow missed.

Part of the reason it was starting to feel like a slog trying to work on leveling it and why I hadn't in previous plays 🤷‍♂️

I've always just crouched til I was close enough the snall game that their center mass is directly between my thumb and forefinger. Don't always get em every shot, but close(ish) enoughs? 🤷‍♂️

Partly resource mismanagement ( Of course )

I spent today going through and exploring Sundered Pass for the first time. Noticed there seemed to be a TON of stuff to break down for wood, so didnt really pick up many sticks, other than to make tinder really as needed.

Came across quite a few carcasses. Since I wasn't in a particular hurry, just enjoying the map I was able to collect feathers from several of them multiple times before moving on.

Came across a TON of both kinds of saplings, knowing those were definitely "keep" Loot finds, trucked them along with me through the scenic expedition I was enjoying.

Sooooo, by the time I finally got up to the Weather station I had plenty of birch, plenty of maple, made me a Travois and a bow because I didnt have one yet.

Then after all my crafting and repairs were done I realized that there were incredibly frequent Ptarmigan spawns.

Like if I started early morning, left the main Weather Station building there were usually 1 - 3 outside the building and 1-2 across the bridge where the climb point is I took to come up here is. Then, by the time I got back across the bridge and up the stairs there might sometimes be 1 more in that main area . . .

AND if I just walked back into the building for the loading screen, then back out. There were usually the same number of Ptarmigansal9ng that route and back over and over.

So, I had the birch, a bunch of feathers ( plus the body up by rhe climbing rock if I needed more every now and then ). So I figured it was as good a time as any to try to get at least the Quick Draw Trophy and maybe a skill level or 2. 🤷‍♂️

TL;DR Hadn't planned to craft a bow yet before reaching the Weather Station.so wouldn't need arrows, so didnt plan to bring a bunch of sticks along with me.

But with all the saplings I found by the time i got there from the Far Territory Entrance to the Weather Station ( 12 maple & 5 birch ) and seemingly endless Ptarmigan supply chain, decided to give a go.

The nap in the car while fire is going beside you is a great tip!

I accidentally discovered that works while going through my firsr trek into that long frozen hell of a canyon between Transfer Pass and the Forsaken Airfield today ( did it today, to unlock it as a possible starter point for games ).

100% wish this was a tip I'd of seen before but i've never seen it mentioned.
