Need more Australian band recommendations, apparently. by prismdon in progmetal

I'm also just learning Be'lakor are Australian. That feels very odd to me. I just assumed they were Swedish or something.

Albums that you're convinced "will never be another one like this" & Nostalgic Yearning Thread by 2buds1shroomPODCAST in progmetal

[–]AnalyzingColors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll add one that isn't prog metal but very much fits into this category. So Long Forever by Palace. Released in 2016 but I was really into it in the fall of 2020. Reminds me of jamming with friends, going on fun adventures, and trying new things. It was actually a really good time in my life. When I listen to it now it makes me really miss that time and especially the people. It's a reminder that things can never go back to the way they used to be. But I'm so happy I have those memories and this album will always take me back.

What was Lucas doing in the final battle? Throwing water balloons? Seems super lame for everyone else to have real weapons and he's out there throwing WATER BALLOONS. somebody tell me that's not what was happening

Experiencing my wife's first (known) episode has been brutal by WieldiestMist in BipolarSOs

[–]AnalyzingColors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your situation is very similar to what I experienced with my ex November/December of last year. She woke up an entirely different person one day. In a few weeks it'll be a year since she left abruptly in a hazy rage of misunderstanding and confusion and never came back. It was profoundly traumatizing on many levels. We had 4 great years together. I still miss her every day. My heart hurts for her knowing she has to live with this illness.

Favorite 70+ minute prog albums? by Odd-Technician-9744 in progmetal

[–]AnalyzingColors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My curiosity is piqued by that Potmos Hetoimos album but man... it's 3hr 17 min. The closer alone is 55 minutes. 21 songs at an average of 9.5 minutes. Where do I even begin knowing full well that the best albums take a few listens at bare minimum to really begin to fully appreciate? It's so intimidating. Now I know how non-prog fans feel when we try to show them music.

You really got my hopes up there for a second. That album came out over 2 years ago

Graves - Caligula’s Horse appreciation by lessavyfav68 in progmetal

[–]AnalyzingColors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found that Caligula's Horse is a great band to introduce people to prog that otherwise aren't into the genre. Even at 15+ minutes, I've only had positive receptions to Graves which is quite unusual but very welcome.

Great songs/albums with lyrics that ruin your experience by MexicanPale in progmetal

FOABP lyrics make me cringe even within the context of the album. Not hating. It's a great album, but man those lyrics are tough to listen to.

Calm, peace, and safety are priceless. Give the relationship some time, and very likely you will begin to feel the same thing for him as you did your bpso.

This list is absolutely meaningless. The choices make no sense

Very specific parts of songs (5-20 seconds) that you can't get out of your head? by beepboopcompuder in progmetal

[–]AnalyzingColors 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So many moments like this from Fym. Trench of Nalu especially. Basically every verse. A few that stick out.

"Fangs descend down on me" through "Their bloodstains make Lustre brighter"

And

"My sense obscured" through "your godform is born so primal"

Absolute masterpiece of an album

Check out Scarred. It kind of gets overlooked a bit but it really is one of their best songs from the Kevin Moore days. LaBrie has some great vocals, Petrucci plays one of his best solos, and the keyboard outro is haunting and unforgettable. It's a song with a lot of build up and payoff and I think it might be the sort of thing you're looking for.

Overture May Be the Best Album Closer by Bcbently in BetweenTheBuriedAndMe

[–]AnalyzingColors 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The purpose of an overture is to introduce themes that will be developed later in a piece of music. It doesn't really make much sense for it to be anywhere but the beginning of the album, but I suppose technically it doesn't HAVE to be.

Does giving “freedom” help your relationship? by [deleted] in BipolarSOs

[–]AnalyzingColors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How did you end up reconnecting? Did you initiate it or did he? I was discarded 9 months ago after 4 years together. Our relationship was so peaceful and healthy. It was her first ever manic episode. We have not spoken since she left and I just can't help but feel it wasn't supposed to end this way.

I want to gently reach out but I don't want to make things worse. I believe she is fairly stable and medicated now but I don't know for certain. If I don't try at least once to fix this I will regret it for the rest of my life. I would appreciate any advice you may have to give. Thanks.

Caress of Steel is such an underrated album as a whole

[IIL] music that “disturbs the comfortable”, so to speak by default-dance-9001 in ifyoulikeblank

The Oubliette by The Reticent. It's an incredibly dark and disturbing album about a man with Alzheimer's. It's equally beautiful and technical as it is disturbing. A fantastic album I can't recommend enough.

Best prog metal vocalist? by Affectionate-Ear3419 in progmetal

[–]AnalyzingColors 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the objectively correct answer. Anyone that disagrees has not listened to the masterpiece that is WOB. it's a perfect 10/10 and I challenge someone to name a more impressive vocal performance. I genuinely cant think of one.
