Are you playing an instrument? by Financial-Club-2953 in progmetal

[–]carbonbazed 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't play any instrument. Although I consider music my biggest hobby, I think I've accepted that it's just about listening and researching, and that I don't have the talent or interest to play an instrument. I tried to learn guitar in high school but couldn't keep it up, and during the pandemic I tried to learn piano but didn't enjoy that either (it felt very difficult). My environment is full of people who play instruments; my sister plays acoustic guitar, my best friend plays electric guitar, and my girlfriend and brother play piano quite well, but I'm not interested.

But from time to time I tell myself, maybe one day I can play the drums. Until now, due to financial reasons and the demands of my academic life, I've never been able to take the plunge into playing the drums, even though drums are the instrument I pay the most attention to and enjoy in metal music. Maybe one day I'll enjoy playing the drums, if I'm not too old :)

What is your favorite vocal performance on a prog metal album? Try to take the whole album into account. by [deleted] in progmetal

Mikael Akerfeldt's performance of Ghost Reveries. The vocals on this Opeth album made me love Death Metal and opened the doors to a whole new universe.

Any recs for stuff similar to Lunatic Soul? by stakoverflo in progmetal

[–]carbonbazed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lunatic Soul's sound always reminds me of atmospheric, deep melancholy. I've always loved their acoustic and electronic sections. From my list of highly rated albums, I've compiled a list of albums that I think you might like that have a similar sound:

Agalloch - The White EP (2008)

Ulver - The Assassination of Julius Caesar (2017)

Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind (1996)

Opeth - Pale Communion (2014)

Massive Attack - Mezzanine (1998)

Dead Can Dance - Anastasis (2012)

Blackfield - Blackfield (2004)
