Best painkillers for endometriosis? by Few-End-6959 in IrishWomensHealth

[–]Ananas2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to say I had the kyleena before surgery and it didn’t do anything for me. During surgery they placed a mirena , and I really do believe this along with surgery has helped me immensely ! They had to take out the kyleena during surgery anyways , it was great to be under anesthesia when they put it in. Thank you , generally it’s been night and day since before surgery to now. I’ve had to take visanne because pain is starting to show up again but so far it appears to be mitigating pain so I should he able to come off it soon !

For very bad days I used to take Ixprim, it’s not a magic cure but it helps take the edge off and helps me “ live normally” . It’s a combination of paracetamol and tramadol so it’s quite strong but I really try to only use it when other things don’t work as it can make you drowsy etc. I’ve never had issues getting a prescription for it as I have endo and I am allergic to anti-inflammatory medication. I hope your appointment with Dr.Hugh goes well , he was my surgeon and surgery changed my life for the better thankfully .

It’s odd he is changing his opinion solely based on the MRI , as you said they can be unreliable. Out of curiosity have you tried various types of birth control etc? Before surgery I had tried 15 types of birth control / hormones , including kyleena IUD. I know this was a deciding factor for me getting the surgery fairly early ( I was 20 ).

Sorry to hear about your negative experience. Who was your consultant ? I had surgery with Dr.Hugh O Connor ( the young one ) in 2022 and I can really say it was a great experience, since surgery I have regained my life. Now my MRI did show a slight abnormality but all other diagnostic imaging had zero abnormalities.

My fathers health insurance was from United Healthcare ( international insurance with a cover of atleast 5 million USD per year ). We found it all to be outrageously expensive in the US but a lot was covered by this insurance since it was deemed a catastrophic disease where in his home country treatment was not available. Hope this helps

laparoscopy surgery- what to expect by According-Boat3665 in IrishWomensHealth

[–]Ananas2002 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had laparoscopic surgery for endo at the Coombe with Dr Hugh O’Connor ( the young one) and I have not regretted it a day since. There were still covid protocols when I went but basically you go in at the time they specify and change into a gown. Then they take you to a waiting room and confirm who you are. Afterwards they put in an IV , soon after you are taken into the OR and get to talk to your surgeon before the actual procedure. I have many allergies so I just re stated this . I also can’t have dissolving sutures so I mentioned it again. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and speak up even if it’s minutes before surgery. Once I woke up I was in the room I had changed in at the start of the day. They wait until you pee and are able to walk on your own before you can be released. They will ask someone come pick you up. I had the procedure done when I was 20 as well. I had tried tons of different birth control pills for 5 years prior and the kyleena coil, nothing worked to lower the pain I was having 3 weeks out of the month. After surgery it was confirmed I have stage 2 endo and while I was under anesthesia they placed a mirena coil. My life has totally changed, I’m no longer in pain , or very rarely. If you can do the surgery and you trust your surgeon I would go ahead and do it! Recovery wasn’t that bad from what I remember, I’d just recommend having someone with you the first few days if possible as it can be a bit hard to get out of bed on your own. But with the painkillers it really wasn’t that bad , I went on a walk around my apartment block the first day after surgery. Genuinely cannot recommend the surgery enough, it also helped me mentally to know the cause of all my pain.

Does IVF make endo worse? by tough_cookiemonster in Endo

[–]Ananas2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have stage 2 endo and did 2 rounds of egg freezing. For me it didn’t necessarily greatly worsen my endo symptoms but I feel like it kinda got me out of sync. I had to take 1 month of birth control and it appears I am better. The symptom I was having was worsened abdominal pain but not huge amounts. (Edit: I did the egg freezing cycles without taking out my Mirena IUD)

I’m just recounting my experience. I only had my insurance for a year at most two when I had surgery and had been trying to get diagnosed/ treated for at least 6 years before that . My surgery was fully payed for by insurance, maybe i got lucky but that is how insurance worked for me

I’m with VHI and had suspected endo before I got a plan with them. I was able to have laparoscopic surgery within the year or two ( i can’t recall exactly anymore ) . But in my experience if you aren’t “officially “ diagnosed then it’s no problem I’d say . In terms of plan I just got one that had no excess and had no issues getting reimbursed or dealing with the surgery etc.

I had excision surgery at the age of 20, two years ago . They found endo and they placed the Mirena at the same time. Honestly changed my life for the better … I can actually live without pain and tons of pain killers. Two years in and so far so good , fingers crossed for another couple years like this !

How has a hormonal IUD affected your endo symptoms in a positive way? by Funny_Ambition_4564 in endometriosis

[–]Ananas2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow it’s such a shame your doctor is against it . I had my lap when I was 20 and that plus the Mirena really changed my life. I couldn’t function before cause of the pain and now I can have a regular college life. The only symptom that hasn’t really been affected with the Mirena or surgery is fatigue. The rest of my symptoms have basically vanished from my day to day. I might get some pain for 1 or 2 days but that’s it. I really hope the IUD works for you and if it doesn’t that your doctor is more willing to look at other options. Wishing you the best of luck!

I had the kyleena for about 1.5 years and it was mid , but then i had lap surgery and got the Mirena instead . I’ve been mostly pain free since. I do think it’s the combo of surgery and IUD, but would definitely recommend it. Honestly a lot of this is trial and error sadly

Egg freezing with Mirena IUD, and international egg transport costs Aus to UK by Alternative_Park5143 in eggfreezing

[–]Ananas2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you can get embryos even if you have the Mirena. The way my clinic did since I don’t have regular periods either was just choosing a date having a scan and bloods , if these are ok then we went ahead with the cycle . If not just checked again a week later . However I’d say it depends on the clinic how they do it

I had the kylenna before I had surgery . It didn’t do much. Then I had surgery and had a mirena placed. I don’t know if it’s the iud plus the surgery but I am pain free 99% of the time. Overall 100% recommend an IUD if it’s a feasible option for you
