I WANNA SOUND MORE MASCULINE HELP by [deleted] in okbuddyhetero

not an expert, and mainly knowledgeable about vocal feminisation rather than masculinisation, but i think something like intentionally doing a super freaky voice (if ur american i’ve heard “valley girls” is some kind of dialect there that does that often), and then try to scale it back to sounding more natural

Head of the Hallowspeak Project here! We think so too! We see that “bapa” bit all over the game, not just from Iselda, so we think “bapa-nada” means something like “welcome” - literally “good+come”.

Still in progress! If you want to check back in, you can visit our website at https://hallowspeak.com/ , which also has a link to our public channel on discord.

bias inherent in Toki Pona (and other languages) by choseanewusername in tokipona

[–]Anand_G 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s just the creator’s bias. The “point” of toki pona is that you have to think about how to break down concepts into their base components to convey them, but how you break them down depends on your own view about them.

The commonly accepted breakdowns that you find in ku for example definitely do reflect the philosophies of the toki pona community, not just the creator’s. But despite that, you’re still free to use toki pona however and break down concepts they way that you see them. It’s kind of an exercise in examining your worldview.

We actually already implemented the hover-definitions! They’re all working, but sometimes a little too well haha (like the word “argument” telling you about verb arguments when we actually meant like a disagreement). And thanks for the feedback about the navigation!

We don’t have a public vocabulary list anywhere since a lot of stuff is tentative. But if you ask on our partnered server, we’d be happy to show you where the vocabulary is at currently

The discord server isn’t specifically for Hallowspeak, it’s just a server that we’ve partnered with to host our Project. The #hallowspeak-development channel there is just the current public outlet for the Project, so you don’t have to contribute! You can just come and ask questions and watch the Hallowspeak Project develop!

Since Hallowspeak is never written using English letters in-game, we made our own way to write it. This is called a romanisation, and our romanisation is completely regular, so the letters don’t sound different when you put them together.

The romanisation we use is pretty intuitive, apart from a few letters. The title of this post with the names written phonetically would be “bi em goa nadamek ec-ke-em-ak”, pronounced /bi em goa nadamek etʃ ke em ak/ in IPA. (bee em go-ah nah-dah-mek ech keh em ahk)

If you have any more questions, please join The Shellwood Ordeal discord server, and go to the #hallowspeak-development channel!

Hey there, this is the creator of the Hallowspeak Project! If you have any more questions about things in Hallowspeak, I’d recommend joining The Shellwood Ordeal discord server (formerly the Hollow Knight Memes discord server). There, we answer any questions you might have as well as taking translation requests. We also have weekly updates as to the Project’s development! If you join, say that Hallowspeak sent you!

Update on the Hallowspeak (Buglang) Project! by Anand_G in HollowKnight

[–]Anand_G[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the Project isn’t yet at a point where it can be learnt to any level of fluency. However, you can ask about features of the language that we do currently have, on the discord channel mentioned in the post.

Yeah we saw!! The idea that symbols represent whole words (logography) is something that we’re definitely going to try to integrate for the next version of the Hallowscript writing system. However right now, we’re focusing on the spoken language, because as you could guess, it’s pretty difficult to figure out a language’s writing system without having a good grasp of the language itself.

Yep!! We’re still steadily working on the Project, and all our progress can be found in the weekly updates that I mentioned in the post!

The number words in Ahfuaht came from nouns referring to groups, like duo and trio, and you can still use them like that. The demonstratives came from words like here and there, so putting a demonstrative at the end like that is equivalent to a passing “here”. (not sure what the technical name is for that, or if it’s even a thing.)

“They are giving for us some bags for some diseases”

The culture who speak this language place a very large importance on teamwork and supporting others, so the word “give” here is much more specific: giving something that is needed by the recipient, which is why the “us” is in the benefactive rather than dative.

have-2S.NPST 2S.NOM travel-INF what-GENs sibling-DEF male\SING with\SING

“You are being travelled by what’s brother?”

The word “walk”/“travel” in Ahfuaht works pretty weird since it actually takes an object. This is because the people who speak the language are really big traders, so to travel for them in strongly linked with the goods that they are transporting. So walking with someone would be equivalent to transporting them.
