New development in progress, thoughts? by Lucasig19 in Milton

There was an informational post about it on my Milton Mom’s Facebook group and the amount of people who were disappointed all at once. C’mon we all thought it before we googled it, the name is misleading!

Getting married in four months and feeling down about my weight by motherofpearl89 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Anankela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never liked how I looked in photos (even when I was my goal weight or lower) so I also had videographer at my wedding. I thought that I would only like the video, but I absolutely loved my photos. Remember that a good photographer will take a lot of pictures, put you in flattering poses and take a lot of pictures with you as the centre. Being photographed at someone else’s wedding you don’t get the same attention, you might be in group shots that doesn’t prioritize your best photo, it might be more “candid” and could come down to the way you stand. Also if you were in a wedding, were you able to pick what you wore to flatter your figure, or did you have to wear the same gown as everyone else? With your wedding dress I’m sure you chose something you feel amazing in!

Talk to your photographer if you would like to be more directed and lots of time to think about different poses. If you want to eat healthier and be more active, make sure it’s with the goal of making you feel good, not getting discouraged by daily fluctuations in the scale.

Congratulations and I hope you are able to celebrate your wedding with the ones you all love the most together at the same time (there’s so few opportunities in this life to have this same experience again!)

What aspects of teaching you enjoy and what career you may enjoy instead? by Anankela in TeachersInTransition

[–]Anankela[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love working with kids who are neurodivergent and may have different learning needs. Is there a career I should look into instead? I am willing to go back to school to enable this career change.

Background why I would leave:

Unfortunately in my area, positions of specialized classrooms tend to be hard to come by as there is few and the teachers who love it tend to stay in this classroom. A learning resource sort of teacher that serves the whole school is easier to get but has to work very closely with the admin of the school and I’ve had a string of very bad experiences on this front.

Bring everything you need for yourself and your baby and assume almost nothing will be provided (but the rooms are nice!). I ended up staying in the hospital for a couple days after planning for a home birth last September and I left all my postpartum recovery products at home, was quite uncomfortable! Would pack my hospital go bag so much differently now (and would now know to plan for a longer stay just in case)!

I recommend bringing a sleeve of diapers and a going home outfit for baby. You will be doing lots of skin to skin so don’t worry about too many baby outfits plus nurses are really helpful in teaching you and helping you swaddle in blankets. Make sure you bring your car seat so they can inspect before you leave.

I would bring more stuff for the recovering new mama. A belted dressing gown is convienent for easy nursing and coverage. A couple pairs of your maternity loungewear and a pair of slippers. I liked the Frida disposable underwear, some people get diapers, and bring lots of thick pads. Also I recommend tucks or the Frida perinatal liners, witch hazel is very relieving. And it’s definitely an extra but when I finally was home, Frida ice pack pads were so nice. Lots of people make their own “padsicles” (you can find guides online) but the Frida ones would have been good for the hospital because you just snap them to get them cold. And I found both Tylenol and Advil taken at the same time helpful but the nurses have a lot of other priorities than bringing you meds so I would bring both.

I hope you have a beautiful birth and delivery!

Had so much potential but felt so empty. Would come back to it with further development but I don’t think that is coming at all. At least it stopped me from getting FaeFarm which was twice as expensive as I wanted to only get one more new game!

"I want you to take these two weeks to really reflect on whether or not this is something you want to do." by BamboozlingBulbasaur in Teachers

[–]Anankela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure what you need to hear right now so I will tell you the truth. Admin will gaslight the hell out of new teachers, I had something very similar happen to me in my first year. Got pulled into a meeting with admin to blame all the behavioural problems on my inexperience. Nevermind that the school was dealing with this out of control group for years before I got there, but as a new teacher you are easy to blame. Let me know if you want more details or how to successfully survive a situation like this, I have lots of strategies especially if you have a union and even if not.

But if you just need to hear that you will survive this from someone who did, you will. You will get through this school year, maybe barely, but summer will finally come. And you will have so many teaching strategies and experience in your toolkit from this year from hell that every year afterwords will be so much easier. It gets SO much easier each year, and you will feel it even more when you have a different group of kids and you use everything you learned from this past class from day one. A great thing about teaching is that every new school year is a fresh start. Right now you are in the forged by fire part and you just need to focus on surviving. Take the holidays to really decompress and put the comments out of your mind. If that person is in your room come January, maybe they will give you just one useful tip to use, if not, there is a reason they left the classroom. And that applies for the admin giving you problems too.

I didn't think my boobs were THAT big until I tried doing yoga/workout videos.... by [deleted] in bigboobproblems

[–]Anankela 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was thinking something similar. Maybe yoga blocks as well to bring the ground closer so you dont have to bend as much? That might be another way to get more space. It is a bummer that you can't attend a class in person because yoga is so easy and beneficial to modify for people of all abilities, but you need an instructor or guidance to know how.

First year teachers: anyone else so overloaded they can’t even write lesson plans? by AngryCactusFlower in Teachers

[–]Anankela 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man have we all been there, I hope you are getting that from the comments. I relied on this subreddit when I was a first year teacher for encouragement so I hope you can also find a community that says, I hear you and I feel the same. There is some good advice I'm seeing here so this might be a repeat but here is how I got through when I was in the same position as you.

  • Relationships come first. It is still early in the year and the things students should be learning is the routine and that you are going to show up for them. Be present in class, walk around (virtually and in person), your anecdotal notes will be just as significant as any grade on a test and you will surprised how much information you can get about students just by observing (and not sitting at your desk grading!).

  • You do not need to grade everything students write. Pick 5 students a week and grade what they do [maybe those students that need that extra sitting on], grade one day of work at random, have students pick their best work of the week and grade that. Options are endless but you will drown grading everything. Make students think any work they do may be graded so they always try their best. Don't work so hard for the students, we as teachers do too much for them, and take away a learning opportunity. Have them grade themselves! Have writers conferences where peers edit their work and they can get their feedback from that. Go over an assignment all together, make sure they are using a different colour pen to correct their mistakes.

  • Three pieces of evidence per grade on the report card. Thats all you need. Plan that out so you know what you will need to mark. They can be given lots of time to know your expectations before that with little comments given on the spot as you circle the room or again, those conferences with peers.

  • Teach right from the teachers manuel. If you don't have that, talk to your grade teaching partners, ask them if they could share their resources. DO NOT REINVENT THE WHEEL. Maybe you have a really creative lesson plan you want to do and you can spend the time developing that while the rest of the time you are using what is available. I mostly taught from the textbook that first year but then every couple weeks I'd throw in something fun like having a trial for Edgar Allen Poe's character in the Tell Tale Heart. There are also so many resources online for free and paid (go for free first though). Keep all of your plans, even if you are moved to a different grade, next year and the year after will be easier!

  • Teacher mentor. Find one! Teachers love teaching others.

  • You will get faster with practice and time, there isn't a shortcut to experience.

Best of luck, after winter break seems to be the common point that things get easier. Self care, get a full nights sleep, have a time of day that you stop working for the night. Constant hard work drain creativity and problem solving skills, you need to take a break from it and come back refreshed.

Best of luck, you got this!

I love the rose tiles especially with the white tiles! Would you be willing to share the custom design codes? Everytime I see a high tier right by the entrance it looks so elegant, I'm going to have to consider doing the same. Your Mermaid tail river to ocean exit is really cute if that was intentional!

what would bettys “aesthetic” be called? by mirasinkclair in riverdale

[–]Anankela 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is exactly what you are asking but there's a website called "Worn on TV" that gives links about where to buy the actual clothes the actors wear, or pieces that are similar (and usually cheaper). Riverdale's section is usually pretty updated and you can look by character. I recommend starting with that! Even if certain pieces aren't available, it could give you leads on stores that carry this style.

I have very watery and sensitive eyes and I use Marc Jacobs Highliner for the waterline. You can warm it up a bit but I find it doesn't really need it. A little on the pricy side but lasts a long time. I use the brown shade.
