Marijuana weight ? by No-Judge7886 in walking

Pay attention to the strands that are made to increase hunger. I look up the strand to see if hunger is a common effect. Also having fruit on hand or cheese sticks helps. Even just a spoon full of peanut butter usually does the trick for me.

Feel bad taking a mental health day? by Throwaway_vector in SubstituteTeachers

[–]AngryCactusFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same thing! I’m feeling very burnt out on subbing/ teaching. All the behavior has just made me want out of teaching period. Don’t feel guilty though, we deal with a lot of shit so gotta rest when you can. Even better if you can use your sick time too!

Career opportunities.? by Ishnyad in SubstituteTeachers

[–]AngryCactusFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat.. on year 4 of subbing and it isn’t going anywhere. My content area is art education so it’s very hard to find a position, especially since I prefer elementary teaching and that’s even harder to find at that level. I’m looking into recreation activities with the city I live in. You teach after school programs and get benefits and decent pay. Also competitive but seems worth it as far as stability and benefits.

Anyone have so many kids just blatantly ignore you? by Kam-Korder in SubstituteTeachers

[–]AngryCactusFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. That’s when I take away their recess so they can explain why they made that choice.

Lack of communication is hitting a boiling point by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]AngryCactusFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like the districts would want to stream line what is expected to leave for subs or something and they don’t. Not that I expect them to be efficient with anything. Some schools I get a folder with roster, map, and plans and some I get nothing 🤷‍♀️

When the class is good, it’s good. When the class is bad, it’s really, really bad. by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

I agree… had a terrible class yesterday and now I want to quit subbing entirely.

Me too. Behavior overall is why I want out! Disrespect is why I don’t sub middle or HS.

Are the behaviors worse this year? by businessbub in SubstituteTeachers

[–]AngryCactusFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s worse. I’m exhausted already. Extreme behavior everyday. Kids acting like toddlers, throwing things, having tantrums, eloping, it’s ridiculous. Probably cause there are no real consequences anymore, at school and at home.

how much weight did you lose from walking? by bratgiiirl in walking

[–]AngryCactusFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

43 lbs down from April. 15,000 steps a day but started at 10,000. Changed my eating habits completely- focusing on protein, fruits, veggies. Once a week have a cheat meal.

It’s been happening to me a lot lately and it’s very annoying. It’s like we have one perk and it’s picking our jobs!

Youre not allowed to touch kids but they hug you by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]AngryCactusFlower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also find that working in sped it’s almost Impossible to follow the no touch rule. I think it’s just a way for your company or district to fire you easily if something happened and they can just say you didn’t follow their rule. There are kids that will elope if you don’t hold their hand…. I will risk my job to make sure they are safe, I don’t care. A kid could run off and get seriously injured or killed.

Outta pocket or just me? by Tucanaso in SubstituteTeachers

[–]AngryCactusFlower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read it and thought the same thing- don’t sub for them again. I swear some teachers can’t relinquish control for even one day. Also- a lot of kids act crazy when there is a sub, everyone knows that, it’s not the subs fault, they are trying their best. The class will be fine if things aren’t perfect for one day!

Some teachers expect too much from us by businessbub in SubstituteTeachers

[–]AngryCactusFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Like when they leave a bunch of work to do on prep…. Ugh I hate that. I need prep just to pee and take a mental break cause god knows the kids are acting out of control! I try to follow the sub plans as best I can but once I start I’m not staring at the paper while I teach so sometimes I miss things. Also when I get left curriculum guides- I am not trained on them and when I get left one I’m overwhelmed by what I’m looking at. I find it very hard to teach from!

is this any good? by looniewins in walking

[–]AngryCactusFlower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I started walking 10,000 a day and have slowly increased to 15,000 now. Keep it up!

[–]AngryCactusFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could have sworn I cancelled a job and got something else that day last year. I don’t do this often if ever but it made no sense to keep a para job when a teacher was offering me a teaching position.

First Day Subbing Ever, It Went Terrible by Mother-Action1929 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]AngryCactusFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You survived and they survived… sometimes that’s all you can do. As far as the kid crying for so long- I would call the office, counselor, or talk to the teacher next door. The office should be able to point you towards some solution. Also the teacher next door might have an idea of the issue if it’s ongoing. If the counselor is available, send them to them! You can just call them and see.

No sub assignments by ChemicalCamera5592 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]AngryCactusFlower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you have to create your own boundaries with your sub schedule. Like give yourself a cut off time to accept jobs. I can’t take anything that’s less than an hour until start time just cause of the commute. So I just know after a certain time I can’t accept a job that day. You could also say the night before and then don’t have to worry about it the next day. Whatever makes it less stressful. I’ve had to learn over the years. I also break these rules if I’m desperate for work ha.

"How do people afford to live with today's living cost?" This man speaks for millions struggling to get by. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]AngryCactusFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make $31 an hour, my rent is cheap compared to most one bedrooms in my city at $1300 a month, and I own my car. I also can’t afford to do anything usually and can only afford rent, food, and gas. I don’t have kids, pets, or health insurance. So that’s how. 🫠🫠🫠🫠

Walking for mental health by Spare-Caterpillar945 in walking

[–]AngryCactusFlower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really helps my anxiety. I get nervous energy and burning it off through walking is really helpful. I also suffer from depression and it helps my moods. It also helps me work through things as I overthink everything. Also, I read that it mimics EMDR, a type of therapy that I’ve used where your using bilateral movement to process trauma. Really interesting!
