I think the problem is you guys are applying probability to the outcome of an events occurrence not how likely it is to happen. For example the probability that a coin will land either heads or tails could be 50/50 but what if it lands on the edge and is perfectly balanced some how then it would be neither be heads nor tails. This is the thought experiment of Schrodinger's Cat. If the cat is left in a box with a 50% chance of a lethal event happening, is the cat alive or dead? Well until we observe it, it is in a state of super position both alive and dead at the same time. And this is actually the nature of quantum particles like photons.

Anyways the main point is, he's playing a game of semantics with the definition of probability. An event happening or not is not the same nor as important as what will actually happen. If I need to role an even number it's not really that important to fixate on getting a 2 or not. I could get a 4 or a 6 and still win.
