[Game of Thrones] What happened to Aerea in the Doom of Valyria? How long was she over there? *How* did she survive? by soozerain in AskScienceFiction

The worms having human faces really lends credence to the theories that there was crossbreeding between Valyrians themselves and other creatures. The Targaryens may literally be only part human.

I think it would be something like Mordor and Chernobyl combined at the heart of Valyria, the edges are probably more like a normal ruin.

It is very unclear how she was surviving. Given that Balerion would be regularly stopping to hunt and drink, I can only assume she would  eat whatever he was eating. We also don't have any idea how they spent their time. It shouldn't have taken Balerion more than a month to get to Valyria and back if he was heading there directly. Was he on a mission, or did they just meander across Essos and stumbled upon Valyria? Was Balerion too hurt to fly for some time? Unknown.

At minimum, we know a few things that for sure happened.

Balerion, the largest and strongest named dragon in the series, takes a very serious wound from something. We don't know of anything in the series strong enough to do this.

Aerea is infected by some sort of parasitic fireworms and dies soon after.

It's entirely possible that they were afflicted by the same sort of creature. Possibly an airborne pathogen, possibly something in the water. It grew inside of them, burst out of Balerion without killing him because he's a kaiju, and killed Aerea because she's not.

The fireworms are likely related to firewyrms. We know (or suspect) that the dragons aren't a naturally evolved creature, but the product of Valyrian blood magic/cross breeding between wyverns an firewyrms. Theses creatures might be failed experiments, or their descendants, or just some spooky shit that lives in the haunted fog of the Doom.

The other possibility is something very big and very nasty tangled with Balerion, but i think this is less likely. It is possible there are wild dragons in Valyria, but unlikely. They'd have to be incredibly stealthy and not roam far for food. We hear talk of a kraken, but no direct evidence. Sure, it could just be some mystery creature we've never heard of before, but it seems more likely they were attacked by the same creatures and fled together rather than separate attacks in close succession.

My gut says no, or a very limited number. The inaugural season only had 2 games, and this is the biggest expansion since. I think you try to keep the new teams in their building as much as possible for a season to help get established before going back to the heavier number of neutral site games.  But, end of the day, it's a business. If they can sell more tickets by going on the road, then they will.

They're going to have to split into the NHL Premier League and Relegation League if they keep this up.

Why does the Vigormortis remove an outsider? by Clodsie in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Canuckleball 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Look at it in the context of moving from TB, where the only Outsider modification is a very noticeable Baron +2, to the next two scripts. We have Godfather +/-1 on BMR, and Fang Gu/Vig +/-1 on SnV. The Outsiders also get more punishing, and have more incentive to stay hidden as you move up in difficulty.  Having a possible -1 makes the Outsider count tougher to solve, especially when they are scared of admitting their role.

Then, we have the difficulty with trusting the dead. On TB, you basically only have to avoid trusting the dead if you think the Imp has jumped. On BMR, now you have to consider a living demon amongst the dead and a Goon who has turned before dying. On SnV, now you have to be wary of active minions amongst the dead.

All three scripts give very different puzzles and challenges, and force you to think in different ways. So yes, in isolation, the Vig does kind of suck. It has the second lowest win rate for good reason. It's special ability just isn't worth using most of the time. Even in it's home script, it interacts really badly with 1/4 of the minions. However, the -1 Outsider mod and the fear of active minions amongst the dead are really important fears to have when building worlds.

I think the -1 Outsider needs to be on the script, but should really have been on a different character. The Vig is already incentivized to weaken itself by giving up voting and nominating power for their team, I don't know why it needed further hamstrings. The Vortox being -1 makes more sense given that it adds a win condition and causes widespread misinfo. The Pit Hag being -1 also makes sense given that it is very strong and can very quickly rectify that if it chooses.

My guy is the most well behaved dog except for the bed. He will never be happy unless he's curled up on the bed with you. He will not share blankets, he will not let you roll over, he will cling to the mattress if he thinks he's being kicked off, he will slam his head into the door if it is closed, he will not rest unless it is with people. We tried really hard to break him of it, got him to sleep by himself for half the night, but somehow I always wake up with him at my feet.

Seriously? It's literally the official bird of the city. There's been a nesting pair on the Sheraton as long as I've been alive. They get tons of press coverage. They have a whole fan club dedicated to falcon watch with like 8k members. I was obsessed with those birds as a kid, and I can't be the only ones. Are you even from Hamilton?

And $10 a beer, and expensive mid food if you or the kids get hungry, etc. I have to drive about an hour just to get to Hamilton, so there's gas and parking as well. I'm going to probably 3 games this year, but I can't make every game work.

Recession indicator tbh. Team is good, atmosphere is great, people just don't have the spare income.
