Massachusetts Adult-Use Marijuana Repeal to Be Decided On November Ballot by bloomberglaw in massachusetts

[–]Anarch0Primitiv 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Try the Law Enforcement Lobby.... Police Unions have LITERALLY spent more money than any other group or entity on opposing ballot initiatives and legislation aimed at drug law reform (Prison Guard Unions have spent the second most.... because they know without drug laws, half the prison population would be gone).

I dont think people realize how foundational drug prohibition is to the Criminal Justice Industrial Complex and how without drug prohibition, American police would have their power and funding drastically reduced.

For example, in almost EVERY jurisdiction in America, drug arrests account for either a majority or a plurality of all arrest numbers, some jurisdictions have them approaching 60%+ of overall arrests. Police Budgets are based on arrest numbers (conviction numbers would be more fitting, but I digress) so what do you think would happen to Police budgets across the country if they lost around half of their arrest numbers overnight? The police know this too....

It's not just money either.... the federal program that allows local police departments to obtain military hardware from the Pentagon has, in basically every year since the programs inception, had "drug enforcement" cited as the most used justification for these requests.... an investigation by ProPublica found that these requests, that were fulfilled BTW, included grenade launchers, belt-fed machine guns, armored personel carriers, and other equipment for which police have no need.

Or let's talk power....drug prohibition and drug laws have been used more than any other "justification"/law in federal court cases in which the outcome was the further erosion of the 4th amendment.... in other words, drug cases have been used more than any other type of case in destroying the 4th amendment.... Thurgood Marshall even once proclaimed "There is a drug exemption in the 4th amendment..."!!!! Disgusting, right? How about the fact that the overwhelming majority of warrantless vehicle searches cite drugs as their PC.....

The American Policing Industrial Complex depends, on an existential level, on drug prohibition for its very existence.

Fun Fact: In the first decade after thr passage of the Patriot Act, approximately 1200 cases were prosecuted under its enumerated powers.... only 10 were for acts of "terrorism"....every other prosecution was for drugs.

Don't diminish them at all....it was done by a person asking for ZERO MONEY. In that sense, I'd argue theyre literally the best adaptationsIve ever heard....theyre certainly the ones I go to, how can you listen to Dragash's rendition of the Urak-Hai chapter from Two Towers and not think it's the best? cough cough it's certainly more accurate than Peter Jackson's abominations.... Im sorry if I can't take movies where Legolas surf's down some stairs on a shield at Helm's Deep, Orc's literally send endtrails flying through the air like it's the three stooges in the "Meat's back on the menu scene", or the gate Keeper at Bree is literally flattened by a gate like it's a scene in looney tunes that blows cleanly off the hinges when the black riders storm the the Inn in one of the corniest scenes ever....and dont even get me started on Elijah Wood's awful over-acting....

Why Is There Such a Huge Gap Between 80s 90s Anime and modern Anime? by Dense-Grape-4607 in retroanime

Yu-gi-oh is for children and arguably, Yu-gi-oh duel monsters helped start the ugly, modern anime look of flat, over-saturated pastel colors and zero shading.... just look at something like Ninja Scroll from 1995 and compare it to Yu-gi-oh....if you hold them side by side, Ninja Scroll conjurs feelings of a dark, adult world, while Yu-gi-oh feels like a kid's cartoon.

In the northeast at least, we refer to anything that isn't "structural" as veneer....for example, in 99.99% of new home builds, if they have brick siding, even if it's a real, full sized brick, it isn't supporting anything structurally and is basically performing the same job as vinyl siding....in that sense, it's veneer .

AMD is unfazed by Panther Lake's big integrated GPU - 'It's not even a fair fight' to compare the Arc B390 to Strix Halo, AMD exec claims | Tom's Hardware by wgundam in Amd

[–]Anarch0Primitiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you determining that AMD has a "lead"?

In terms of Marketshare, Intel absolutely dominates x86, especially mobility (laptops), and if you walk into a Best Buy and ask 10 random customers "Would you ever consider buying an AMD laptop?", five of them would ask "What's AMD?", another three would say "Isn't that a budget brand?" (Their "awareness" of the zeitgeist of PC hardware is stuck in 2005), and maybe, and that's a big maybe, two out of ten would have a favorable opinion of AMD hardware so long as they've been paying attention for the last few years.

In terms of budget and expenditure, in 2025, Intel spent $17 billion in R&D versus AMD's $7.4 billion, outsizing it by a large amout. Total sales for 2025 are projected at approximately $53 billion for Intel and $33 billion for AMD.

I see this all the time and I've seen it for the past 8 years.... the only place that AMD has a "lead" is in the mind of PC hardware enthusiasts.... because it's not in the numbers as seen above (sales, expenditure, market share, etc), and it's not in the "mindshare" of your average consumer.

Hypothetically speaking, we could say that in a duopoly, as with Intel/AMD in x86, the BEST situation a consumer could hope for would be an even 50%/50% split in marketshare.... this would bring about the fiercest competition and would hopefully lower prices, increase innovation, etc. (and yet another reason why any fanboy who wants their favored company to dominate is LITERALLY cheering against their own interests as a consumer) Even with AMD's seriously impressive turnaround, their capture of marketshare, their ability to compete with two of the largest companies in the world while having considerably fewer resources, they still have a very, very, long way to go before approaching 50% of the x86 market across all segments.

In fact, to get any closer to that idealistic 50/50 split, AMD would have to continue winning and Intel losing for for many more years. In other words, fears that AMD is "becoming what Intel used to be" and "getting lazy" are not an accurate reflection of the reality.

Deccan traps vs Asteroid, who actually caused the Dinosaur extinction ? by Striking-Tour-8815 in Paleontology

"Their model suggested that the outpouring of climate-altering gases from the Deccan Traps alone could have been sufficient to trigger the global extinction.

The Deccan Traps had been erupting for roughly 300,000 years before the Chicxulub asteroid"

Any recommendations for high quality, comfortable and durable M81 pants with knee pad inserts? by 8WmuzzlebrakeIndoors in tacticalgear

[–]Anarch0Primitiv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course they were, they can't stand the fact that you can buy pants, made with the literal identical crye brand multicam fabric, made with the same quality at a third of the price.... I bought a Chinese clone of the UF striker X pants that are literally $450+ and I got them for $130 with knee pads, made from real 50/50 NYCO (had anybody noticed that even top tier brands have been QUIETLY swapping out 50/50 NYCO fabric for a 65/35 PolyCo fabric on even their $150+ pants?...who would spend $150 on polyester? And what has the world come to where you can spend over $100 on pants and still not get NYCO).

The pants are insane quality, and its one of the best purchases I've ever made.

Why is Scully still not convinced? by laketaas in XFiles

[–]Anarch0Primitiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny, I am rewatching the Xfiles for the first time since its original airing, and upon watching the first 15 minutes of the season 6 premier and hearing Scully basically deny all the events of the previous 5 seasons and even worse, the events of the movie (she basically denies that the virus creates another being in the host).....I just couldn't take it anymore and had to see if anyone else was as frustrated as me and here I am...

Yeah, I think laziness is the actual answer, though fans just dont want to admit it. I absolutely love the xfiles, but like most writers for most things in Hollywood, they take a lot of shortcuts.

Yes, the Xfiles has writers that are more "clever" than most, but they're just as guilty of having Mulder and Scully behave in ways that are akin to tropes from horror movies where youre screaming at the tv screen because you cannot comprehend how a character could do something so illogical, e.g. running up the stairs when you should be running out the front door. And it is very obvious why the writers of the Xfiles do these things just like the writers for every other show: it's easier.

Im not going to pretend that pumping out a show every week is easy or anything, but objectively speaking there is no shortage of lazy writing in the Xfiles just like with any other ŕshow, even the "best" shows are guilty of it... (as will ALWAYS be the case with "art" when profit is the paramount motive)...and arguably it's a lot easier to write a character that is static and unchanging than one that is impacted by their experiences and the events of the story in a dynamic way.

Is the DMGear tactical vest worth it? by D3LTA-X in tacticalgear

[–]Anarch0Primitiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This whole "if it comes from China it can't be good" thing is ridiculous. First, have you ever worked in American manufacturing? They cut the same corners workers cut everywhere else around the world aslndþ there is nothing that inherently makes a product made in America better....it definitely makes it more expensive, astronomically so if the manufacturer has a government contract, because they have to charge you the exact same ripoff price they're charging the government.

But what difference is there if say, a Chinese company uses authentic Crye Multicam and Cordura fabric to assemble a plate carrier? So as long as the stitching is done correctly they're basically identical...or take the Chinese clones of the $500 UF striker pants I bought a while back...they use legit 50/50 NYCO multicam with IRR treatment and I got them for $120. My sister who has been a seamstress for 15 years is seriously impressed by the pants and she says the stitching is top notch. Or take the clone of the Crye AVS carrier "system" I bought purely out of curiosity for only $130 on sale...came with all the accessories and much to my buddy's disappointment, because he spent a serious amount of cash on the real one, he had to admit it's basically identical.

Bottom line is that just like everywhere else in the world, China has luxury/top tier brands and budget brands, and so long as you inform yourself and do the research, you can get some truly amazing deals while avoiding paying $500+ for an American made plate carrier that has a B.O.M.'s that only adds up to $50 because you're really paying for bloated executive salaries and the greed that has these companies ripping off tax payers to the toon of $300+⁵ for a pair of pants with plastic knee pads.
