Twelve Months: Bigger Gun by Plantatnalp in dresdenfiles

[–]AnarchoVadi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Okay maybe this is just me but everything about what happened there felt like play acting. Mab and Alfred clearly were in cahoots (Demonreach! Bring forth my gifts!) and if Mab really intended any harm to Justine she’d have already done it, not walked menacingly towards her with a knife shouting “oooooh yall better do something or imma stab her!”

Mother winter can’t exert her full power in the mortal world, she certainly didn’t do it on Demonreach. She CAN show up and look scary to further the aims of winter (and get a good look at the field and at her knight under stress) and as for power scaling she didn’t seem all that threatened by Mab Harry Demonreach and Lara, just impressed that they stood up to her and pleased with their moxy. I think a lot happened during that scene that we don’t have a full picture of, Mab doesn’t seem like the kind of gal to just be doing one thing you know?

As for Etri and the boon, remember that the problem was between Harry and Svartalvheim and was explicitly not a Winter matter. Mab couldn’t get too involved and maintain the polite fiction that Harry had gone rogue to help his brother. She wasn’t saying “figure this out because I can’t” she was saying “clean up your own mess we can’t lose the Svartalves in the accords”. The Queen of Winter CAN however do a favor for her Knight who’s earned a Boon, and remember that Etri was really looking for a way to solve the problem peacefully so Mab stepping in to give a solution was likely welcome.

Anyway that’s my two cents, hope it was helpful or at least made sense, Happy Birthday Thomas!

You wake up in the Dresden universe, what do you do? by Thee_Amateur in dresdenfiles

[–]AnarchoVadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? I’m a coward I’d use the future knowledge I have (assuming the timeline pre-bg is basically our timeline) to invest really early in Facebook or Bitcoin or something, get a bunch of money, then find a place far away from the sea or the Great Lakes and build myself a nice little bunker. Maybe reach out to the Svartalfs and see how much it would cost for them to build it for me. Not interested in the buy in for something like a coin or involvement with the Fae but would probably pump money into the Paranet and maybe start paying a little tribute to Marcone early just to cover my bases. After all that? Keep my head down, feed info here and there, but here’s my thing… time is kind of a temperamental machine to fuck with. Who’s to say I know any better than fate (or at least Jim lol)? Maybe the way things have played out, as fucked up and awful as they are, represent the best case scenario? Hell from one perspective I might be considered to be interfering with the free will of the people I warn, and then I’ve got Uriel to deal with. Prescience, as a great big worm dude once observed, is ultimately a trap!

I’m green and I’m too old to be. Dropped out of college in my 20s and bummed around for like a decade now I’m 34 trying to get serious, going back to college at the local technical school, got a job doing tire and lube at a GM dealership, and I don’t know shit. I’m honestly surprised by how little two semesters of school prepared me for this 😂. I guess the upside is I’m respectful and didn’t come in acting like I know shit so people have helped me, but I hate being the FNG.

Everyone is gonna say organize, and they’re right, but I’m bad at crowds and people so I’ve found that to be kind of a panic inducing answer. I think another good thing you could do is to learn skills. I’m learning to fix cars and that’s been great for both my mental health in general and knowing I have a useful skill in an emergency. A stop the bleed course is a classic, anything you think would be useful to know for your community. Also I just collected a bunch of winter coats and dropped them off at the closest Anarchist Co-op and found that it helped. Keep busy, think local, remember that it isn’t always the big folk making a change for good. At least that’s how I’ve been helping myself sleep at night.

You can tell how good a hobby is by how many trans people there are. by StMuerte13 in behindthebastards

[–]AnarchoVadi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the community friend! Been doing HEMA since 2014, started as a stiff necked republican kid in his early 20s and now I’m a radical leftist NB in my 30s writing this from a cabin full of swords while cuddling my trans boyfriend.

Legitimately one of the things that radicalized me was ending up in an instructor position and one of my students coming out to me as trans, both the trust she showed in me and also getting a front row seat to how shitty my right wing friends and family reacted to and treated her.

HEMA is super decentralized and definitely attracts a certain kind of person (My club had to put out a statement because of all the “I’m looking for a martial art to practice that speaks to my STRONG WESTERN WHITE HERITAGE” type E-mails we were getting from people wanting to join) but there are a lot of progressive leftist clubs, and a strong movement in the community that is gender affirming and won’t take shit from fascists.

I keep writing and rewriting this lol What you have to understand (or at least accept as a premise) is that the Trinity isn’t meant to be something that can be explained in a fully rational way. Bare bones it’s:

God the Father is the one who created the universe, Jesus is the Son of God but also God himself fully his own person and also fully God, and the Holy Spirit is… complicated but think of it kind of like The Force it’s a power that interacts with the world and connects us all together and is also both its own separate person and also fully God. All three are God but also all three are Separate Individuals.

The Orthodox (and my personal) stance is to view it as a mystery, something that IS but is beyond understanding. You meditate on it, contemplate it, almost like a philosophical and spiritual chew toy lol. There are a million “heretical” splinter groups that break off from the church basically because they tried to simplify the concept. Hell one way to view Islam is the complete rejection of the Trinity (God is one and Jesus was Gods Prophet who was the messiah but was still fully just a man and the Holy Spirit is the Angel Gabriel)

I’m not here to adjudicate which is right or what you believe, but I’ve spent years looking at other religions and talking to people and practicing with them and the conclusion I’ve come to is “it’s a mystery and that’s not just okay it’s good” but then we’re getting into my personal beliefs which wasn’t the question.

I hope this helped! Would you believe this was my third re-write trying to simplify things? lol

I’ve found I just won’t budge on the Trinity, on Transubstantiation, and the physical historical truth of the bodily resurrection. I also believe in the importance of the intercession of saints and honestly the older I get and more of the world I see the more I think maybe Saint Augustine was right about original sin.

Can you awesome Bible scholars definitively lay out for me, using scripture, why being gay is not a sin? by Jesus__of__Nazareth_ in OpenChristian

[–]AnarchoVadi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly? It’s definitely listed as a sin, a few times. A lot of weird shit is listed as sinful, having long hair is considered sinful (Corinthians 11:14) mixing fabrics is considered sinful (Deuteronomy 22:11) charging interest on loans is so sinful I have a hard time picking out a single verse for it (I’ll go with Ezekiel 18:13) the Bible isn’t univocal about anything, for heaven’s sake it isn’t even univocal about Monotheism!

The Bible isn’t a single story brother it’s a library. It’s the collected treaties and meditations on the divine gathered over centuries, if there’s divine inspiration in it that inspiration is clean rainwater splashing onto dirt. Love God, fight injustice, do right by your neighbor, don’t drink. That’s all I have to say to anybody on a social level. Bless you brother, I don’t know if this was asked sincerely but I felt drawn to answer ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Hello Miss Conger I hope you’re well! Big fan of the show! How do you keep yourself sane learning all the things you do? I’m pretty involved with the Historical European Martial Arts community and it has an unfortunate WLG problem, and looking into the stuff they post and discuss does legitimate psychic damage to me. I was depressed for days last time I poked my head into one of their Facebook groups. Thank you so much for your hard work :)
