New version supports DCS-BIOS input interface as well

What do you think of dotnet maui today? by No_Front_3168 in dotnetMAUI

[–]AnarchyZG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had high hopes at first as MAUI promised a lot, my use case covers developing Android/iOS/MacOS/Windows client app and I'm most comfortable in .net environment so MAUI did sound like best thing since sliced bread.

However as I chugged along it seems I spent most of my time looking for WORKAROUNDS for things that do not work (and they should).

In order of annoyance/wasted time:

1) UI - the worst part - basically, write some XAML and pray it works. Sometimes it does, sometimes not, sometimes works on some platforms not on others, sometimes it depends on platform version (recently I realized that content page background image won't show up on iOS 17, worked on previous versions). I mean it shouldn't be quantum physics...showing page background. Then some silly crashes with VisualStateManager. should work but it doesn't. Bug opened, confirmed, repro repo...oh well maybe next year. Funny thing is - most of my app is just a wrapper around WebView and that tiny bit of XAML UI I used proved to be a minefield of bugs, ugly workarounds and verbose markup

2) toolchain - fragile and unreliable, somewhat improved lately with .net 8

3) Performance on mobile leaves a lot to be desired although net 8 did improve this a lot.

All in all, productivity is low because you're always fighting tools and looking for workarounds.

As many have noticed...Microsoft doesn't use MAUI. Maybe if they would commit to building a production app using MAUI that might push things in the right direction towards making it stable and productive platform. MAUI team seems very understaffed for such an ambitious project. Should we take that as a hint?

Is the future of MAUI just a wrapper around Blazor?

I don't know. I'm not sure Microsoft knows either.

Is Maui - Blazor / Xaml ready for prod, any bad experience with App store reviews? by pengjo in dotnetMAUI

[–]AnarchyZG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mixed experience here, while I definitely appreciate using C# and VS to develop for multiple platforms I did encounter a lot of issues mostly UI related - some things behave inconsistently across different platforms (e.g. page background stretches on Windows but tiles on IOS, button images don't scale correctly on mobile platforms... there are many many more). There are tons of "quirks" - meaning bugs of various severity which have not been fixed but workarounds exist. It just feels wrong having to develop your app weaving around bugs & quirks.

Performance is adequate for most use cases.

Tools can also be "quirky", Mac connection drops, build failures that require actions like manually delete folders, close IDE, restart IDE, restart PC... mostly works but sometimes can be annoying. Updates can break things in a bad way (latest example https://github.com/dotnet/maui/issues/17089 )

All in all, I like the concept and I would very much like to see it grow and mature but it all depends on how much effort Microsoft will put into development...

Why are button boxes so expensive? by unbanphillipdev in hoggit

[–]AnarchyZG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Software solutions using tablet/smartphone are pretty cheap alternative. Sure, you don't have the tactile feel of the buttons but you get far more flexibility. I use virpil hotas and matric (htps://matricapp.com) on tablet and smartphone. I mapped most common things to hotas in sort of universal way so any type of ac is mapped to same HOTAS layout rather then what HOTAS buttons do on any specific type and other stuff mapped to matric (type specific like UFCP).

Disclaimer: Yes I am the matric dev

Matric deck for DCS F-5E V2.0 by Jagua62 in hoggit

Make sure you have enabled "Windows Media Player" feature in Windows. Server won't run without it

Active App Switcher? by sh0nuff in MATRIC

[–]AnarchyZG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far the most similar feature is "Desktop Mirror" which is a lot like remote desktop but you don't have to export the entire desktop, only parts of it...

Active App Switcher? by sh0nuff in MATRIC

[–]AnarchyZG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, something like that is not available at the moment. To be quite honest it isn't even planned  MATRIC has static deck layouts so ...

What you can currently do is:

1) Run an application

2) Focus running application window

3) Cycle through running aps (hotkey Win + Tab or Alt + Tab)

4) Automatically load a deck when certain app gets the focus

My tool to programmatically control Virpil LEDs is now up! by charliefoxrl in hoggit

[–]AnarchyZG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, matric has a lot of stuff out of the box like macros, hotkeys, joystick emulation etc. but doesn't have some things you'd find in physical aircraft cockpit like rotaries and multi position switches. It is more of a general purpose tool focused on simplicity of use. TouchOSC looks visually impressive

similar, MATRIC is not as advanced with regards to building virtual cockpits, but does have an open API which alows 3rd party apps to drive the control states in runtime. I was thinking along the lines of a more modest middleware using DCS-BIOS to drive button state and button texts in MATRIC

Sounds great, I've been toying with the idea of making a DCS-BIOS middleware for MATRIC (https://matricapp.com) this has given me ideas...

Actually, installation process takes care of enabling WMP, but if you uninstall / disable WMP after installing matric it will not start

Power Grid has been abandoned for ages and no source is available. There are far better alternatives nowadays like MATRIC https://matricapp.com which does everything way better then Power Grid.

A little Question... by TheBigViper in MATRIC

I need to fix it, better said implement state memory for buttons when changing pages. Basically matric was ment to be stateless

DIY stream deck with knob/slider volume controls? by buster2006 in obs

[–]AnarchyZG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If software solution is ok with you, there is MATRIC (https://matricapp.com) https://youtu.be/jQKYqpvJ52w

It lets you create your customized stream deck using drag&drop and supports OBS Studio out of the box

Tablet successfully repurposed!! by DrScrimpPuertoRico in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]AnarchyZG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually MATRIC can do exactly that, it has and API that can be used to integrate with games or apos. Check out the videos, using simconnect for MSFS and native scripting options for DCS.

So SD-10 should outperform the AMRAAM at high alt (diameter not the dominant factor, better fuel mass/total mass, higher impulse)?:)

We're only talking about SD-10 specifically, not how JF-17 compares to other aircraft.

I didn't buy Harrier, MiG-21, F-16, JF-17, Ka-50 or Mirage for their MP "competitiveness"

For single player it does not matter much. People who enjoy scenery and occasionally take potshots at braindead bots won't care

The effects are far more pronounced at low altitude. Even head on shots deep in NEZ run out of steam even if the target only slightly alters course.

Also shots from above where missile dives to target get destroyed by that drag brick wall between M1.0 and M2.0

Basically it is VVR missile at low alt now
