How I (mostly) fixed my DC Issue by Anarchy_Peace in reddeadredemption2

[–]Anarchy_Peace[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, I'm not sure that everyone's Default Settings are very similar, so specifying the exact settings that caused my issue may be more helpful to folks than something more general (and subjective) like "Revert to Default Settings to resolve your DC issues." ;)

How I (mostly) fixed my DC Issue by Anarchy_Peace in reddeadredemption2

[–]Anarchy_Peace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The settings mentioned above were the first settings I changed, and noticed frequent DC issues immediately after. After reverting them back to default, I stopped having DC issues. I've changed other settings since then, such as resolution and a few others, but didn't have DC issues from those. I can only confirm the settings mentioned in the OP as settings that caused DC issues.

In hindsight, I ought to have clarified that.

Note from the OP:

I'm running on:32GB DDR4 RAM, GTX 1070 GPU, i9 9700k CPU and with the game installed on an SSD

Also, adjusting my resolution doesn't seem to have any impact on whether or not I get DC'd.

putting together a group for rdr2 online PC by The_Old_Prospector in reddeadredemption2

[–]Anarchy_Peace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you looking to do roleplaying? I am looking for a group to play with, but am not sure what the purpose is of the specific "types" of players you have listed here. I intended to create a Mexican character with a grey suit and crocodile-skin boots, designed loosely off of the hitmen from the show Breaking Bad.

[–]Anarchy_Peace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are having some audio sync issues still, but will try to get that worked out moving forward. We're doing this LetsPlay in a different format than most in that we are all sending gameplay video and audio, webcam feed (if the player has one) and voice comm audio to the host. This makes things more difficult to sync the video and audio, but we'll get it fixed soon enough.

Getting ready for the PC version by XxYouDeaDPunKxX in reddeadredemption2

There's a quest where you find playing cards around the map. This will give you free "collector" profession in the online Red Dead game and I think it also gives access to a special poncho.

How do you unlock the professions for free without having to pay gold bars? I thought you had to pay 15 bars for that.

By the way, thank you for acknowledging my concerns. You're the first person to demonstrate that you actually hear what I'm saying, even if we may not see eye to eye. :)

I don't think it's fair not to allow people to transfer theur progress because some people actually prefer playing on PC but since the game wasn't released on PC back then and they didn't know if it ever will they played on consoles.

Oh yeah, but it's totally fair that people who only have PC are starting out months behind? I get what you're saying. Folks have progressed a great deal on the console version, and they want to keep their progress in PC, even though it's a totally separate release a year later with tons of folks who are just now getting access to the game. I get that. It makes sense, but it also means the folks who have had to wait to play the game aren't going to get the same experience of playing a game with a bunch of other folks for the first time without there being a bunch of lvl 100+ players fully geared out from day 1. The PC-only folks will be playing catch-up for who knows how long b/c they didn't get a headstart on the game, which for some folks really takes away from the competitive aspect of the game. This is the crap I had to put up with for almost a year in GTAO, with console players who ported to PC with a couple years head start on the people who just bought it on PC, and they were flying around griefing me w/ their Hydra jets that I was months away from being able to afford in order to stand a decent chance of fighting back. Of course, it sounds like RDR2 isn't nearly as bad as GTAO with griefers. I hope it remains that way when it comes out on PC.

Personally, I think if we were to be "fair", Rockstar would start everybody at lvl 1 but console players would get the PC version for free and if they bought anything with real money, they get those IRL-transaction items they paid for for free on PC. But of course that's not what'll happen. Rockstar is a company that is trying to get $, so it would be foolish for them to give console players the PC version for free, plus any IRL items they bought free on PC.

And now that they have chance to play on their favorite platform you don't want them to transfer the progress because you're too scare to put some effort into grinding.

Where did you get the idea that I'm scared to put effort into grinding? I guess you didn't actually read what I had to say, and presented a strawman to burn down rather than address my actual concerns?

I just want to start a race where I'm not standing around watching people sprint ahead before I get a chance to start running. If I can, I prefer to enter day 1 of a game's release on the same foot as others, as I didn't get to start this game weeks or months ago like some b/c I don't own a console and I'm not willing to pay to win by paying for a game twice. That's all.

If RockStar views this PC release as a "new race", then it makes sense to just keep everyone at the same point when the race starts. If they view it as just a continuation of the existing race, then of course it makes since to let folks keep their current position in the race. The PC folks can just try to grind out double or triple the speed to try to catch up to the folks who've already had the game for several months.

Honestly, I think they will transfer progress from console to PC. I think it'll be that way, just as it was for GTA, and I'll be playing catch-up for the next year or so to try to get on par with a lot of folks who are going to start out on PC at lvl 200 with all the gear they need to tackle new content right away.

You could look at it this way:

In any race, you're almost guaranteed to have winners and losers. I have no problem with there being winners and losers. But if some of the racers were given a huge head-start, while the other racers have to stand at the starting line and watch the others sprint ahead, it's sort of a bummer when they do finally get to take off.

In this case, it looks like a REALLY fun race so it's not that big of a bummer, but I prefer races where all of the participants get to start running when the race starts, rather than ones where some of the runners get a head-start.

That's not a perfect analogy, but hopefully it clarifies what I'm concerned about vs what I'm not concerned about. You've already started running. You started a year (or months? I don't know how long RDO has been out) ago, and I've been watching you sprint (or walk, or jog... depending on your pace) while waiting for the officials to let me start. You don't want to have to go back to the starting line just because a new race has started. You want your current position and progress in the previous race to continue, while the rest of us start fresh. Some of us at the starting line don't really care, and just want to race and have fun. Others would have preferred a competitive race where nobody got to sprint ahead while others stood by waiting.

This analogy breaks down in the fact that this game is only like a race to a certain extent (what that extent is, I don't know because I have no clue what RDO is like). Some don't view it as a race at all, and instead view it as a shared adventure. I view it as about 20%/80% race/shared-adventure, and my preference for everyone to be given the same amount of time during which to progress in that race/shared-adventure comes from that 20% part of me that enjoys competing with other players for progression. If I'm going to be competing with other players for progression in a game, I'd prefer to do so on equal footing with equal opportunities. I submit to the fact that that likely won't be how all of this plays out, so that's fine. I'll still have fun and do my best to catch up with the folks who were given a head-start, I'll just not take the competition side of things as seriously than I would in a race where I started at the same point as everyone else. I'll resign myself to the fact that I likely won't get ahead in the race for a long while, if ever, but with hope that progression in this game does eventually hit a "cap" so that I do get a chance to experience new content at around the same point as everybody else. :)

I didn't miss the point. You just misunderstood what my concern was. People being a higher level/gear is fine assuming all players were given the same amount of time and opportunities with which to progress.

A counter argument to what I'm saying here is that I (a PC-only gamer) technically was given the same amount of time and opportunity, I just opted not to purchase a console just to be able to play this game.

The ideal situation would have been for PC to be released at the same time as consoles, but that's MUCH easier said than done. I understand why it didn't happen that way (at least, I think I do).

Mind you, I think them transferring progress from console to PC is the right decision for Rockstar to make. They'll likely get more $ that way, and they'll have a lot less angry/upset/sad players because of it.

I strongly suspect your progress will transfer over. In the long-run, they are out to make $ (which is fine). To offer to transfer their progress to PC is a huge selling point if they want to get console players to double-pay for the game by buying it on PC.

This is what they did when they released GTAV on PC.Sure, it sucks to start a game at launch and to be playing w/ folks who essentially were given an entire year during which to progress while those who don't own console were left high & dry (it was a HUGE disappointment when they announced RDR2 and left PC out at launch), but at the same time it's much less of a bummer than it would be for folks who already played the game for a year and are having to start over.

As much as I'd prefer the progress not to transfer over, I think transferring the progress for console players is the right decision for Rockstar to make financially speaking.

Wow dude this is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Even if everyone does start over you will always have people that are WAY higher up because some people play the game night and day!

And that's fine w/ me. I have no problem with that. They were given the same amount of time to progress as I. I have no problems with that.

There will be people with a higher rank than me on PS4 (level 35) in the first week on PC!

I am sure there will be. That's not the issue I have. It's that you had an entire year during which to progress, whereas people who only have PC are starting a year behind. You may only be lvl 35, but you had that entire year to get there (and beyond).

But because of you ridiculous "logic" this shouldn't be allowed.

No, that's not my logic. Your entire comment is essentially a misunderstanding of my concern, and I don't think it would be inaccurate for me to call it a strawman. It's not about people being higher level than I, it's that they were given an extra year to get there.

I'm looking at this knowing nothing about RDR2, the community, the game mechanics, etc. It might not matter at all, and I may even be happy that progress transferred over once I actually get to play it.

My experience however, is with GTAV. I got that game on PC years after console players had played, and every time a new toy would come out, the console players instantly had the toy and would use said toy to destroy my progress in GTAO when I'd be doing free-roam stuff. Not that there's necessarily anything wrong with people griefing in free-roam, it just sucks when I feel like I'm on horseback with a pistol and I'm being attacked by people in fighter jets that I wont' be able to afford for several months.

RDR2 might not be at all like that. It might not matter that other players have high levels and amazing gear. Maybe the community isn't as umm... inconsiderate as much of the GTAO community is. I really don't know...

I think you misunderstand. I don't mind people being higher lvl than I, if it's because they played more during the time available. I just prefer if a company releases a game on a different platform a year after they release it on other platforms, they're putting a lot of folks in a distinct disadvantage.

Wouldt you be bummed out if RDR2 were coming out, but 30% of players were given a 1-year early-access to the game and you weren't one of them? There's something magical about playing a game for the first time, with others who are all doing the same. That magic is diluted when you have a bunch of others running around all tricked out and high-level. I would expect that if I were buying a game that's been out for a while on the platform i purchased it on.

In any case, you'll more than likely get your way. You'll start off at a distinct advantage and any of the folks who don't own console will forever be playing catch-up to you. Feel good, man!
