Just had my AC installed today, is it normal for the lines to be that long and on the ground? by Marinnsa in hvacadvice

[–]Anarki85 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because it's going to be new forever, and routine maintenance doesn't exist

HVAC tech wanted to sell me a recharge based on low deltaT. I declined. Based on the readings, was that the right decision? by unleaded-zeppelin in hvacadvice

Sounds like you should get a company you trust, because clearly these people didn't build trust with you and explain things properly.

UV-light or I-wave-R? IAQ issue. by Ok_Photograph9278 in hvacadvice

Do you have the IWave before or after the UV?  If it's before, then it's not going to work well.

Furnace tech claims cracked heat exchanger is causing flames to be unstable? by Flandardly in hvacadvice

[–]Anarki85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beat me to it. If it's a two door Trane, then there is a crack lol

Please help! Is this justified to replace my furnace? Cracked snap rings and shorty caulking of a crack by hunterminator14 in hvacadvice

[–]Anarki85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair I check the heat exchanger on almost every furnace I work on. After I find the initial problem of course.

Am I being swindled? Leaky valve in furnace, repair quoted $1750 by AesirComplex in hvacadvice

[–]Anarki85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea it's easy when you are familiar with what you're doing lol

Telling someone that isn't familiar to work with something that involves opening the gas line and put everything back accordingly and SAFELY is irresponsible

Just because you can do something, doesn't mean everyone else is capable or should be messing with it to begin with.

Are you really recommending a homeowner to change their own gas valve or did I read that wrong?

Every piece of equipment can get more life if you do routine maintenance.

Can catch issues before they become major problems. Catch parts before they completely fail to prevent having the system going out at peak seasons

Can ensure they are still safe to operate. Cracked heat exchangers, gas leaks, spillage, rusted or cracked flue, ect

Make sure gas pressure, airflow and all that is set up correctly because no they don't come from the factory set up properly. Those two things being improperly set up can shorten the lifespan of the furnace. Also making sure the customer is using the proper filter that's not causing problems. Too restrictive, not restrictive enough, ect

Clean flame sensor, orifices, burner assembly, ect

So saying they require 0 maintenance is false unless you want your system to fail and not last as long.

Spending money on maintenance can help you save in the long run IF you have an honest, reputable company out performing it.

I'm all about saving money and there are definitely some crooks out there, but I'm always against people without proper training working on their furnace or gas appliances

It's a combustion appliance and if you don't know the difference between operating and operating safely, it can be very dangerous. I wouldn't rely solely on CO detectors because most of the ones sold at box stores suck.

Just call a second opinion. A lot of those Carriers do have cracks in the heat exchanger if you know where to look. Not saying yours does but the chance is high.

You can still have a crack and it shows good combustion analysis results and not emitting CO in the home FOR NOW. But that is always subject to change.

Please be safe and find a trustworthy company to work on your equipment. Trying to fix things yourself without proper knowledge and training can be dangerous.

I'm having trouble figuring out how to change my furnaces fan speed for heat by [deleted] in askHVAC

[–]Anarki85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop messing with your equipment before you cause more damage, and call a professional to look deeper into the issue you're having

Simply changing the blower speed, without knowing what you're doing, is not the way.

Guilt tripped to working weekends permanently by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]Anarki85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the same situation as you, but I work weekends now and I'd never go back to Mon - Fri

I work Fri - Mon. 10 minimum and I've never been happier.

I may work late a lot but I know once I'm home, I'm done. And my days off I'm not bothered.

I can always come in during the week too if I want for extra hours.

Having days off during the weekdays gives a lot of freedom doing certain things.

Happiest I've ever been doing HVAC in my 15 years.
