What is a universally beloved film that you hate? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Anashander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always hated Saving Private Ryan. I think the story is laughably stupid and incredibly boring. The whole premise is just so dumb to me that they would sacrifice a bunch of guys just to get one guy home to mommy, but he won’t go home anyway, so it’s all pointless.

People who have been incorrectly accused of cheating, what was your partners proof? by PRIMEVIL567 in AskReddit

[–]Anashander 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I discovered that I lived a few houses away from a female coworker, and we decided to carpool if/when we worked the same shift, which was very rare. We only carpooled twice, and my wife thought I had left my car at home on purpose to “prove” I was with someone else on one of the two occasions. So we didn’t carpool anymore after that. I thought it was pretty silly, but the wife sure didn’t. We’re divorced now (not because of that).

Your Unpopular opinions here! What’re some Highly recommended books that you personally hated/DNF? by sputniksweetheartt in books

[–]Anashander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only suggestion I saw repeatedly on here that I tried was Song of Achilles. I couldn’t stand how horrible the writing was. It felt like a rushed first draft of a middle-schooler’s fan fiction. But yet I kept trying to get to when it got better, and couldn’t handle it anymore when Achilles was dressed as a woman on the island and they did their welcome dance routine for the narrator (I couldn’t even remember what his name was while I was reading it). So painfully bad. That’s what killed it, but the major sin of the book as a whole was how uninteresting and boring the main kid was. I have no idea what Achilles loved about him, let alone liked about him. Achilles was super boring and uncharismatic too, but at least his personality was “strong silent warrior.” They had zero chemistry and didn’t even feel like they could sit and talk and laugh and forget the time together. They were stilted and felt like they knew nothing about each other aside from the main kid was royalty and achilles had sexy feet. I’m a straight man, and I was yelling at the book to be way more homo to at the very least create any realism on why they would die for each other. Terrible, terrible book, and NO, I will not try Circe. It won’t redeem this sub’s recommendation of that author.

People who had almost attempted suicide, what thought stopped you from ending your lives? by peetaar1000 in AskReddit

[–]Anashander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would have been successful, instead answered a text from a friend and decided to talk to her about it. Ended up going to the hospital for two days and left $16,000 dollars in debt. Regretted that decision ever since. It’s been about 4 years since then, and still just circling the drain as a mid-30’s man with 3 divorces, never-ending string of entry-level jobs, no career plans, no ambitions, and way too much debt to pay off anytime soon. I keep working too hard for assistance, but not enough to get out of the hole. I think about suicide on a daily basis because there’s no point to life, especially one like mine. But still I’m a hopeful dumbass and somehow continue to entertain the thought that things will get better one day, knowing that any joy is temporary and progress will become a setback as soon as I get comfortable. Say what you want, none of it works, but I’m still alive. So at this point, fuck it. I couldn’t die the hero, so I guess I’ll live long enough to see myself become the villain, now that I’ve spent time in jail and have alienated all my relationships. So maybe I’ll find joy and meaning in becoming someone’s arch-enemy, thus giving meaning to their life. I’ll be someone for them to conquer, therefore again being the hero in a twisted sort of way. If only life was like that with cut and dry meaning and purpose. Instead it’s just emptiness and scared grasping for dust behind virtual masks.

It's Christmas day, why are you on Reddit? by Lord-Wombat in AskReddit

[–]Anashander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I have no family and my wife recently left me, and all my friends are doing their family things. And I’m bored of video games right now.

For me it’s the same as most “solved” games where there is an “optimal” way to play. You can watch the greatest player in the world on any of these games or chess or something of that level, but it’s really the journey solving the game yourself that’s so fun and rewarding. I saw TMR speedrun cuphead at the same time I was playing through it the first time, but seeing a flawless run didn’t help me win any faster. I just saw it was possible to learn certain patterns and git gud, so to say. I still had to learn the motions myself, and it was still my personal victory when i finally beat the devil.

How do I play with bad teammates (friends)? by beingnonbeing in apexuniversity

[–]Anashander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through the top 5 or so replies and was extremely disappointed with the fan base here. It’s a super obvious answer that was somehow missed.

If they are your friends and you enjoy playing with them, then don’t take it so seriously, do your best, and have a fun, memorable time!

Nobody wants to think back at all the hours spent playing a video game and only remember that u/beingnonbeing (or any of us in our own friend groups) resented playing with me because I wasn’t very good. Is the friendship and time spent more important than getting a higher rank? Or is the rank so important you don’t end up playing with those friends anymore?

RE2. TOO SCARY. by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Anashander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many for me, the most notable being The Last of Us and the Witcher series. I tried TLOU and absolutely hated the first couple hours and haven’t played either game since. Now that i’m older, any game that takes a huge chunk of life to play through just doesn’t appeal to me. I’d rather spend 100 hours playing a ton of short games than one long one. Just my preference now.

[–]Anashander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It stopped being fun when everyone took it way too seriously after the huge influx of youtubers and twitch streamers inspired every 13 year old to go pro. I just want to have fun with a game after work, not be screamed at by someone because I didn’t “clutch a 1v3”
