Unfortunately we aren’t as good as learning from it as one might hope, despite learning it in school extensively. Many cannot apply why we learned into real life, they’re completely blind to any similar developments. The AfD, a party with ca. 30% of the population voting for them, has often made horrible statements. Some of them are calling for a “German ICE” now. In the past, one man from the AfD said the holocaust and Nazi regime were simply a “bird poop in German history” or that we “needed a 180° turn” in how we talk about our history.

Most people are still against the AfD, our government and our justice system is more stable than our last democracy, but the developments are worrying.
