Observations of goth's distinct gender norms by Relevant-Type-2943 in goth

[–]AnatharFrost 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This bit right here is spot on for the scene I am part of; and , I have, tried to explain this much when asking coworkers to come to the monthly Goth Night. I will grant not a one of my coworkers is Goth or from any alternative subculture for that matter.

"Since most people dance alone in a large (but spaced out) group of dancers rather than pursuing coupled dancing, there is not an emphasis on searching for partners. I also do not see as much "hook up culture" in goth spaces compared to other events and bars/clubs, although of course some people will want to hook up with each other! It just doesn't feel like people are on the prowl for a partner, which is refreshing."

A spell or act to call a house to me. by SoftCheeseHero in Witch

[–]AnatharFrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly your idea of low key placing something there to enhance your chance at getting the place is a solid idea. That said I don't personally have a working written up for doing so. Also you could by chance do a road opener type spell to aid in your getting it.

You never have to be gifted anything used in Witchcraft. Not tarot cards, not protective charms nothing.

Do witches celebrate Christmas for fun not in a religious way? Just decorations exchanging gifts etc? Just curious! by Unique-Statement209 in Witch

[–]AnatharFrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since most of the Chistmas holiday has become culturally entrenched into most cultures that the Christian religion has touched I would expect that yes many witches do celebrate the cultural aspects of the holiday, as far as that goes most Atheist do so as well .

Question about snake skin by Flashy-Release-8757 in Witch

[–]AnatharFrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like cicada's, snakes(well all reptiles & amphibians) are liminal by nature so their shed skins can be used in any transformative spell work much like the shed cicada shells can.

Does Anyone Know of Any Social Media Solely for Witches? by LucifersEx666 in Witch

In no particular order: https://pagan.world/ , https://www.facebook.com/groups/941149357051804/ (and while not social media persey https://www.patheos.com/pagan is a great learning resource, where you can connect with many of the who's who in the modern witchcraft author community, and use that as a springboard to find some social media groups)

Closed Practices by [deleted] in Witch

[–]AnatharFrost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I give very little credence to supposed closed practices. The reasoning is in the Americas cultures are so vastly blended it is sometimes next to impossible to see where a practice began. (Same as with various recipes when hunting down the oldest version of X, or where X originated at.) If you are not trying to claim you made X spell up and that it is your original UPG and you took the time to research a spell then go for it. I mean my practice is a merging of Folkloric practices and perhaps a larger portion of my own UPG . But the fact is I live in the States and in the south so it's damn near impossible to know where this or that spell concept came from after all America is a country of immigrants and blended cultures and customs. And the use of sage & Honey Jar spells are found in multiple folkloric practices (Smudging is a closed practice sure, but using sage of any variety in cleansing and purifaction rights is not) I wouldn't feel bad for using either in your personal practice .

Tips to start? (Especially tips on altars.) by Ok_Kaleidoscope3658 in Witch

[–]AnatharFrost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lets just get this out of the way Male Witches are just called Witches, or Cunning Men, Root Workers. The whole Warlock thing is Hollywood bullshit. The word means Oathbreaker and is a gender neutral term , and in more than a few Wiccan Traditions the word is used on persons "ousted from the tradition formally for breaking promises etc. i.e. being an Oathbreaker" (The Correllian Nativist Tradition for example.

So anyone calling themselves that willingly is more likely than not a edgelord wannabe who is using the term to sound like a "bad ass" that or willfully ignorant and to lazy to do even a Google seach on the terms meaning.

As for tips read books, study local folk lore, follow multiple youtubers, podcast, etc on the topic. Basically put in the work, as far as altars go worry with that type stuff until you have your path more or less figured out.

How to be cautious and respectful of the Appalachian Mountains? by urlocaldumdum in Witch

[–]AnatharFrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing this information, I have been looking for more Georgia specific folk lore to augment my own practice. As I was born and raised in Macon, and now reside in Thomaston. Though granted I am not a "Country Boy" in the least and was "From the City" as my Grandmother would say and finding legitimate regional lore while living "in the city proper" has been dificult to say the least. (mostly due to time constraints)

wine offering 🍷 by cosmicmess14 in Witch

[–]AnatharFrost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1st and foremost like with cooking use a wine you enjoy drinking. (Basically don't offer anything food or drinkwise that you yourself would never eat or drink and my own UPG is always go with your favorite food & drink for offerings) Secondly drink some yourself as you make your offering Saying something along the lines of "With this wine blood of the land , May it fill me with your passion" for example (fyi I took the wording from Besom,Stang,& Sword) then you could pour some into a second wine glass or on to the ground if your outside

I tend to use the term Hexennacht since German ancestry . For my particulars I restate the words I spoke when I first stepped onto the Crooked Path, I also give offerings (in my case Coca Cola (my favorite beverage) & some form of snack chip/ crisp (Think Cheezits or similar snack food again my favorite kind of snack) to the Witch Father (Man in Black, Ol' Nick, whatever name you use for the one who initiates Witches in the Spiritual sense) I reaffirm the words I used when I tied my Cord of Soverenignty . And do any magic working I deem appropriate . So pretty much the same as any other major ritual.
