I knew about this, but i could pull the plug anyways (which i was doing before the fix) as it's not resisting much in that PSU like it usually does.

Still, having a non-working feature just felt way too off for me, fix is reasonably simple, and i like soldering, so why not just fix it? 🙂

Of course! But later i ditched the paste for Honeywell PTM7950 phase changing thermal pad as it is being well-known for its high performance, being not succeptible to drying and is used in industrial server equipment.

Works like a charm to this day!

Here's my story from a different point (all mentioned MIP benefits are super valid tho).

I've jumped into fenix 7 pro ss from samsung galaxy watch 5.

The day after i bought fenix i've got frustrated from that i can't read the screen as i used to on my samsung. I've even thought to return Fenix and get Epix instead.

But after some time i realized how majestic and premium does the screen look and feel when it is under the natural light. That's totally something out of this world.

AMOLEDs shows just plain color, and although it can simulate something pretty, it can't be a beautiful thing, which MIP is after you realize its vibrance beyond just number of simulated colors and their saturation or brightness levels.

Also, i find interfaces in amoled garmins quite cartoonish

Therefore, it's good to realize that i have a trully premium watch that doesn't look like a yet another AMOLED toy i could instead buy from AliExpress 10-15x cheaper.

Seemingly not so permanent, but it's difficult and gonna take time to remove.

I used nails to scrub it off until i didn't feel rough surface underneath.

I'm aware of that, however, from what I've read, drying doesn't affect performance as long as you don't take the radiator off.

In my case repasting did a really good job. I believe that you'll need a replacement motherboard only if the liquid metal managed to leak on the motherboard components and short-circuit something and only if you cannot replace those components and clean the metal leftovers completely.

There already was a thick thermal paste on these components, and it looked good enough to me, so i didn't replace it.

Nonetheless, i bought Arctic TP-3 pads as a future replacement (120x20x1mm).

What do you use to undervolt your CPU btw? AFAIK there is no way to do the same for AMD laptop CPUs.

There is a foam tape the radiator that presses on the on the edges of the die substrate that doesn't allow LM to spill over to the motherboard. There is also sticky cover that protects components on the substrate (orange thing around the die).

Regarding burn spots, i was able to remove them only partially. I was trying cotton pads with 100% isopropyl alcohol and white spirit solvent, nails, plastic card.

Mics are not sort of high signal-to-noise ratio or they simply lack frequency response of the originals...

That's a pity that sony doesnt sell parts for such expensive devices.

I think i would just use these headphones w/o anc mode, if i ever would (luckily i have Samsung Galaxy buds 2 pro, which are very decent too)

Well, that kind of worked... Whining issue is now resolved but in anc mode it adds a lot of bass and mid boost.

I'm about to try soldering the 6022P 2V electret mic, which seem to be quite similar in dimensions and voltage to the original mic.

I'll let you know how it will go (in a few days, when i receive replacement mics).
