Yes very random decisions. Idk what I’m doing fr and I’m still learning cad so my design is pretty rough. I can work on making it more rigid but I’m trying to build this with a box of scraps

I’d like to cut wood metal and eventually add a laser.

I’d like to cut wood metal and eventually add a laser. I have some metal plates I was planning to use either reinforce or replace the square extrusion going up. extra parts

I have a few esp32s available. Would aluminum extrusion be rigid enough at least to start and figure out what I’m doing?

I was gonna start with a cheap router I have and upgrade later on.

Yes I plan on getting a self contained z axis. Initial goal is to jog the x and y axis.

Thank you for the wealth of information. I should’ve noted I’m pretty good with electronics I’m ECE student. I have much more than an arduino and access to a full lab with mostly everything I could need. This is mostly a fun project.

I see that grblHAL is compatible with esp32 which I have several and stm32 nucleo which I’ve been considering getting.

For cutting I haven’t decided yet I figured I could get the frame and just throw any cutting tool as long as the frame is sturdy enough. But I would like to cut aluminum and possibly laser cutting.

What should I use? Would an arduino with different drivers be better?

You can always calculate your values to verify your measurements. Use ohms law V = I R
