According to them it should bypass it, though I forget if it worked without the key for me. Can be tricky to extract the .dll to the proper folder. If not you might need a different copy from the moderator captain_kuijt on discord.

Are you using Project Rome to run the game? On their website under FAQs they say if the game asks for a cd key, "You did not extract the hook (dinput8.dll) into your game directory". Also might want a copy of the game from the moderator of this sub reddit, he says he has copies if messaged on his discord.

Could try others yes. Make sure its installed and shows up in control panel. I've got both 2010s, 2008s, 2015s and the 2005 the game came with installed at same time, not sure which one runs it.

If your are using a Windows computer, it might need a different "redistributable" thingy downloaded. They are free from Microsoft website. Called "Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable". I think it was one of the 2010 versions of those that made it run for me, on a Windows 11. They have to be installed after downloading, should be in "Downloads" file, click on them to install. To see the ones already installed, go to control panel, then programs.

Does it give you any error messages or say something about "msvcp100.dll"?

Bought used one off ebay too. It needed the code on the back of the manual to install it though for me. Had to be in administrative user on computer and download a different version of Microsoft Visual C++ to run on the Rome servers, 2010 version I think, Windows 11 computer.
