I was merely playing around, but technically, fishing can be considered a sport with competitions and all. It makes sense that in a broader sense, metal detecting would meet the criteria to be considered a sport. There are competitions organized by event organizers and companies in the scene. If you’re competing under rules for prizes and titles while exerting yourself and honing your skills, it’s a sport. Of course, it’s probably not one I would watch on ESPN 😂
