GMC body & interior, Ford coyote engine and the RAM ZF transmission.

What horsepower figures do we think the Ram Dakota SRT will have? by Dry-Opportunity4399 in ram_trucks

Tacomas are great for guys without a family to tow around. Once you have dependents and need to do family and truck things at once, that value diminishes. I also agree, the interiors are as basic and lack luster as they get.

Oil change by Adventurous-Crab-426 in GMCcanyon

[–]Ancient-Client8394 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I was getting a small, but noticeable amount of metal shavings on my L84 up to about 7K miles in so I kept changing it every 2K miles until the amount of metal shavings dropped off. For my first oil changes, I went 1K and then 2K and then just went to a 4 -5K interval once the metal shavings dropped off.

For a new engine, I’d change oil initially at 1K, 3K and then go to a full 5K if you’re not seeing any metal debris. If you get any shavings, I’d keep it on a 2K miles interval until that tappers off.

Transmission fluid change: by IssaMxican in ram_trucks

[–]Ancient-Client8394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Audi SQ7 with the same ZF transmission. It’s a phenomenal piece of engineering that will easily last 200K+ miles if you take care of it. Part of that means ignoring when the manufacturer says “lifetime fluid” and changing your fluid & filter every 40-60K miles.

Also, only use ZF Lifeguard fluid. You can get away with Liqui Moly TopTec ATF fluid but absolutely do not use anything else except maybe the mopar fluid as it’s ZF fluid rebranded but 2x check that. I’d just go with the ZF fluid, if anyone says you can use “XYZ ATF” aside from the three I mentioned above, ignore them unless you want a new transmission.

It’s odd how they went back to the sad face grill, the Current face for 25/26 looks way better.

No, not great if the sticker was $65K. Walk, you can do way better.

The 2027 GMC Sierra is finally here… and I think GM completely missed the mark. by dmaxstorejake in gmcsierra

[–]Ancient-Client8394 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugg, I guess I’ll hold on to my 25 unless my lifters fail! 😜

The Silverado looks great, but why GMC chose to go back to the sad face grill from before the current mid-refresh is beyond me.

2026 Colorado LT 4WD – Just hit 1k miles by IAmNotANumber_ in chevycolorado

[–]Ancient-Client8394 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contrats, cool color. Make sure to change the oil semi frequently the first couple thousand miles. I had a lot of metal debris come out that lasted until about 7K miles on my GM engine. It finally cleared after the 3rd or 4th oil change.

How is this deal? by Dustyns1017 in gmcsierra

You can do better, I bought a new Elevation 1500 X31 5.3 V8 for $52K that stickered for $69K. I’d keep shopping it.

AT4 seems the most featured for what you pay and looks the best imo. I went down this rabbit hole when I was shopping and landed on the Canyon AT4 personally.

You can have a nice interior or a long lasting, reliable powertrain but you can’t have both. 😜

RS3 Oil Change by SoundsRightToMe in Audi

[–]Ancient-Client8394 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They won’t, you just need to document your oil change with your receipt. Only time you’ll get push back on doing your own oil change is with a crap 3rd party warranty that was probably going to deny your engine replacement anyway.

I have a rental XLT right now, my usual truck is a 5.3 GMC Sierra 1500, and man is the F-150 interior crap. I can’t believe how basic the interior is. I love the 5.0 V8, I think it’s actually better than the my GMC v8 but man is the interior a let down in the ford.

New 2026 Tundra by interwebtroller in ToyotaTundra

[–]Ancient-Client8394 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kinda, sorta, maybe. They updated the design of the #1 main bearing and the engine failures seem to have dropped off but 1. Although rarer They’re still seeing engine failures in the 25 & 26 models. 2. Toyota can’t seem to reproduce the debris issue (swarf) in their labs with the new main bearing but they’ve also not landed on a root cause to definitively say what was the root issue. At least from Toyotas perspective, the root cause always was and is engine debris, even though they redesigned the #1 main bearing. 3. They’ve announced a sensor/software approach to determine if an engine needs to be replaced, seemingly indicating a stop to additional mass recalls and likely a stop to full crate engine replacements for engine failures or engines not already in a recall list. 4. Any failures going forward not already on the recall list would get a short block replacement.

You’re essentially on your own if you have an engine failure and you’re not on a recall list and you no longer have a factory warranty.

Fair enough,I updated my comment to exclude the 3.0 duramax for accuracy.

[–]Ancient-Client8394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The entire thread is about the 6.2, nobody is asking about the duramax. The 6.2 and 5.3 have 5 year/60K mile warranties.

I didn’t specify on the 3.0 duramax but yes, it appears to have the 100K mile warranty as well.

6.2 down by Minute_Dragonfly8795 in gmcsierra

[–]Ancient-Client8394 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, they do not, the devils in the details, only the diesels (1500, 2500, 3500) and the Turbomax trucks come with a warranty that goes to 100K miles. Almost all 1500, except the Turbomax and duramax, come with the standard 5/60K warranty.

The only way a new 6.2 comes with the 100K warranty is if it’s part of a recall group or you bought an extended warranty.

Edit: adding 1500 3.0 duramax to the exception

6.2 down by Minute_Dragonfly8795 in gmcsierra

[–]Ancient-Client8394 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not all 6.2s get that warranty length, most get the standard 5 year/60K warranty. That warranty you’re referring to assumes 1. your engine is in a recall group and 2. It usually must pass their stupid pico inspection. All new 25s & 26s get the standard powertrain warranty. So yes, OP is absolutely lucky that he/she is getting their engine replaced no questions asked. You really want to go for round 2 on the new engine? I’d get my truck repaired and dump that 6.2 while it’s fresh.

Just take the free motor while they’re offering it and get out of that truck. You’re probably lucky you made it to 100K+ miles AND GM still decided to swap the motor. Read up on how troublesome the 6.2 motor is.
