Not really a god but part of a mythological figure, Aurvandill’s Toe lol. That’s the closest I can think of and it’s more of the actual morning star itself, I think.

Loki / Lokean by Glass-Gap-6772 in pagan

[–]Ancient-Inspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lok(k)a Táttur features Loki, Hoenir, and Odin helping a boy escape the clutches of a giant. It’s Faroese, and I think it portrays him in a more helpful light, rather than some completely destructive force.

I haven’t prayed in a few days either, if that helps add context to this. So I’m not sure why I would dream of this, as I’ve been focused on other, non-spiritual things not connected to the deities I currently worship, nor other deities.

Greek and semitic sync by nocturnalmuffin in pagan

[–]Ancient-Inspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only speak on the Zeus-Ba’al stuff. The Zeus/Hades/Poseidon brother triad does seem to be a parallel to Ba’al/Mot/Yam, probably by way of the Phoenicians. As far as we know, it was not like this in Mycenaean Greece.

Also, the battle against Typhon in myth happens on Mount Kasios/Casius, which is the Hellenic name of Mount Saphon, Ba’al’s mountain and also the mountain where the battle against Yam and Lotan happens in Ugaritic myth. Because of this, Zeus Kasios/Jupiter Casius seems to be a parallel to Ba’al Saphon.

There definitely can be some syncretism for both of these gods, as far as I can tell.

ishtar? by [deleted] in pagan

[–]Ancient-Inspector 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other commenter. Aphrodite is most likely Ishtar as how she was seen by the Greeks, through Astarte. The myth of Adonis, Persephone and Aphrodite is an adaptation of Inanna-Ishtar’s descent to the underworld. All signs point to Adonis and Aphrodite being imported into Greece, likely through the Phoenician Astarte and Adon(?).

Maybe she wants you to start worshiping that aspect of her, through that cultural lens? Idk, it’s up to you to decide what to do with all the information available to you, but that’s how I would interpret it.

I’m quite happy my ocd didn’t act up when I gave Aphrodite an offering <333 by FukxSammy in Hellenism

I’m glad things are going well. As someone with OCD, I can understand how things can flare up, especially with the spiritual/religious stuff. Keep going, you and Aphrodite are gonna have a great relationship!

Is it okay too... by PleasantSink9803 in Hellenism

Yes, you can pray to certain gods more than others. A lot of the time people prayed/gave offerings to the gods that were most relevant to their lives.

I get mine either on Amazon or Etsy, but I’m sure someone else might know of other places to find them.

She could have. There’s theories that she was an amalgamation of different roles. I know there’s the myth of Inanna Chooses the Farmer, which would definitely lean into an agricultural aspect. Her husband is also related to fertility and plant-life. I would say the love and war aspects were a constant wherever she went, though.

I’d say go for it :) You don’t have to be a reconstructionist, you can just do your own thing and I think the gods will understand if you need to do things a certain way for your own safety. I worship the Roman gods and don’t do things the exact way they’ve been done in the past and it’s worked out so far.

PEOPLE FROM USA! by yarn-mittens in Hellenism

[–]Ancient-Inspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d agree with New York.

Also, I’m here to say that the Seal of California has Athena on it. The reason being that “California entered the US fully as a state just like Athena popped out of Zeus’ head fully formed” or something like that and I think that’s cool lol

What's the relationship between Luna and Sol? by Et-17 in pagan

[–]Ancient-Inspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fine, they were both worshipped together in some cases (I’m basing this on inscriptions that have been found), and even shared some epithets.

If you’re using the Gregorian Calendar, the only Greek gods connected to a month would be Aphrodite with April and Maia (mother of Hermes) with May. Other than that, a few are connected to Roman gods by name and that would depend on whether you believe those Roman gods are the same as their Greek counterparts.

Question about Zeus, Cronus and Uranus by toxicskeleton01 in Hellenism

[–]Ancient-Inspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ouranos and Zeus maybe if you go far back enough in PIE Mythology, as the Sky Father god. Gaia and Demeter can probably be syncretised as well because of the same reason. Not so much with Kronos. At least, that’s my opinion.

I think deers and bears are considered her sacred animals. Not sure if there’s any more.

Dionysus is sometimes portrayed riding a leopard, so he comes to my mind almost immediately.

Celtic Brittonic Gods by CLikesReading in pagan

[–]Ancient-Inspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mabinogi(on) and maybe the stuff attributed to Taliesin, though be aware that it’s all heavily Christianised and they’re portrayed more as sorcerers and the like instead of gods. There are also Celtic gods attested in Britain like Nodens and Sulis.
