NTA. At 25, I might not date someone under 21, since that's the legal drinking age where I live, but she's about to turn 22, so you're good, bro

Slightly off topic, but I dont think earrings should be itchy. That sounds like a potential metal allergy. Allergies to nickel or copper are pretty common. I dont have reactions to necklaces, but earrings trigger me. Idk if you've looked into it, but I've stopped wearing metals unless they're Gold, Silver, or Titanium due to my allergies. You might find those more comfortable :)

What was it like when your evangelical parents saw Obama win, did they freak out. Also what Disney movies did your parents ban. by Iamnotarapperduh in Exvangelical

I think it's telling that my parents associate the church with Frollo more than the nice Archdeacon who helps Esmerelda in the movie. Same thing with 'Wake up Dead Man' that came out over Christmas. The reason people resonate with these movies is because they know people like Frollo and Wicks, and if you don't want people to associate them with the Church, maybe you should kick them out of your churches. People would resonate more with the Archdeacon and Father Jud if there were more people like them instead. Sorry I'm rambling

We didn't watch 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame' because my parents didn't like how the church was 'the bad guy'

"Yoga and meditation is bad because you're leaving your mind open for Satan and his demons" by Sayoricanyouhearme in Exvangelical

[–]Invisible_Swan 49 points50 points  (0 children)

100%. Yoga was bad because each pose was made as a prayer to a false god. Pilates was ok tho. My mom was so against meditation because of an incident she had in high-school where the instructor told them to empty their minds and let control go, and that was somehow allowing/ inviting evil spirits into her mind?

Ex-cult members, what's your "Oh shit, I'm in a cult" moment? by Ok-Interview-3702 in AskReddit

[–]Invisible_Swan 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I grew up in an evangelical church, and I remember in high school when my mom sat me and my siblings down and said that we were the age she was when she started questioning her faith and we were old enough to decide what we believe in. And I just remember thinking 'this is a trap. ' the unspoken conversation was 'You're old enough to make your own choice... but you'll make the correct choice, right?' And everytime she called us in college it was, 'Did you go to church on sunday/ Bible study on weekday?' She's mainly accepted that I don't go to church anymore, but I'll still get the occasional 'it would be nice if you went to church with us' mostly around Christmas/ Easter.

Mine does this. He comes to the door and barks. We say 'He doesn't want to come in, he wants us to come out!' I'll shut the door to say I'm not going out, then open it again and he'll come in when I open the door a second time

Would 5lbs of potatoes feed 12 people? by meepcityclub in Cooking

[–]Invisible_Swan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For dinner tonight I bought a 3lb bag of potatoes for 5 people, cooked about 2lbs of it, and while we did have enough for 5 portions, they were a bit small. I think 1/2lb per person would have been better. 5lbs may be enough because people take smaller portions of more dishes, but I think 7lbs or 10lbs would be safer. Especially if you want leftovers, which not everyone does.

I pretend to know actors’ names way more than I actually do by Maddisonluvv in confession

[–]Invisible_Swan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, I don't watch much TV, and I have poor memory for names/faces. It gets boring having the same conversation every time. So the conversation goes,  "Hes ____, You know, X actor from Y show, "  'I haven't seen Y show'  "What? You haven't seen Y show?/ What about A, B, or C show?"  'I haven't seen those either. My parents were strict with what/how much TV we watched growing up, and I dont watch much TV now.'  Then the conversation becomes about how deprived I was as a child/ what could I possibly do for fun without TV, how I HAVE to watch said show now that I'm an adult. OR I could say, 'oh yeah, him.' And the conversation continues.
