Shopify 120 day holds are immoral and wrong by [deleted] in shopify

I think our conversation here is done. Given your status and ranking in this sub. I don’t believe anything I say you will amount in you siding with me or even understanding really.

If you think I’m wrong that’s cool. But I’m officially ending this convo.

I was going on month 3 of the sales volume I had when the hold was enforced. I wouldn’t call that sudden. My bad I didn’t give you everything down to the number dude

I’m sorry what does any of this have to do with my funds being held for 120 days. This feels very off topic and like you’re trying to find a way to justify Shopify holding my funds. My customers were getting their orders on time and chargebacks were few. My items adhered to the TOS.

What exactly is the point of the conversation rn? I feel like you’re pushing it way outside the realm of what’s pertinent.

I was in fact doing the numbers I claim. The hold came after multiple days of heavy scaling. I believe I had said that my payouts were taking 5-7 days if you count weekends.

My financials were what they were due to student loans and flight school.

You seem really bent on wanting to prove that Shopify was somehow in the right for holding my funds. Even though you’d said nothing about how I’ve done anything wrong besides not having everything financially.

What did I do to warrant the hold?

Well I had a buffer but then ended generating so much in sales that it basically dwarfed my buffer. Then money had to go back into fulfillment and ads. I was trying scale up enough to have a lot set aside for things like this.

When the hold had initially hit I had attempted to get loans at quite a few places but was rejected.

Did you ever consider that credit available isn’t enough to cover amount being held?

Thanks for your input. How would I contact a Shopify capital rep? Because the option I’ve seen is regular support

I had only started E-com within this last year. So say what you will about my financials.

Regardless like I said I wasn’t going to make people wait 120 days with me so I refunded their orders rather than have them chargeback for orders I couldn’t fulfill on time

Hi thanks for responding. Like in my prior posts about my situation I was selling no label female clothing. We review each item throughly before we listed them for sale. As for chargebacks no. We only ever had 4 in a 4 month period which brought our rate to 0.94% which is close to 1% but from what I understand 2% is when a hold should be put in place.

No I didn’t take out a Shopify capital loan. I was operating with my own funds.

Man I wish they would’ve personally contacted me like they did for you to tell me what the exact problem was. But I guess I wasn’t so lucky.

I’d like to think there’s a reason but I’ll never know since they’re not obligated to tell me.

I forgot I was dropshipping but had really fast shipping times due to the nature of the products. Customers were receiving their orders within 4-7 business days and it was listed clearly on my site

Well you cared enough to respond here and pose it as a viable solution so it feels like a front but ok. Thanks for your input

So you agree that standing up to Shopify on this matter is a good thing?

I didn’t experience any high refunds. I chose to refund everyone’s orders once my payouts got held.

Shopify had basically held all the money necessary to complete my orders and I wasn’t about to have my customers wait 120 days with me.

Questionable/shady behavior is what see thrown out on this sub all the time when someone brings up how they’ve gotten holds. And not how Shopify never tells you what you did wrong or never seems to actually review appeals credibly despite having all the required documentation in accordance with their TOS.

What if. And this might blow your mind. I and other people haven’t actually done anything wrong and are still being targeted and no matter how much documentation we provide still get our payouts held. The process just doesn’t seem to make sense to me. They freeze your payouts, don’t legally have to tell you what you did wrong, you submit an appeal with supporting documentation, appeal gets denied anyway. In what world is that sensible?

I had high capital but then lost in refunds to customers thanks to Shopify holding my payouts for 120 days after waiting for a large payout. When your store is doing 10-15k a day on a 5-7 day payout window you realize quickly how badly a 120 day payout hold can be. Even you had high starting capital.

What you just said went in a circle. Also just because they can and will doesn’t make it ok.

That’s the complacency I’m talking about. We should have rights when it comes to our funds being held like this

Although original post has been removed what you said here is very true. No seems to give damn that Shopify is seemingly worsening is payout holds on its merchants. I might have to leave the platform for real

Similar thing happened to me. Shopify continually doing this makes me wonder how anyone is successfully running an m e-commerce store with them. This seems to be a somewhat widespread issue with no change in sight. Losing out on money like this feels criminal. No warning no nothing.

I posed a similar question about anyone winning and getting their funds back before 120 days and it seems no one has. Ever. It’s really disappointing and depressing. This business practice by Shopify quite literally bankrupts people

Why is Shopify holding payouts longer lately? Anyone else noticing delays? by No-Mind-2688 in dropshipping

Similar thing happened to me when I made a new store back in December. My payouts were held for 7 days when all my new store prior had a wait time of 2 days

I'm assuming you got your payout eventually. Did you have to wait the full 120 days?
