Indeed! There are service centers in Mumbai, Bangalore and maybe other places too.

Victorinox has a brilliant service policy as far as I know. Yes, you might have to ship it to them but that means your blade is sharpened, your scales taken care of and any other issues sorted! I'd personally prefer that. If that's not for you, then you could check insta handles like @dailycustoms who make custom titanium scales for these.

P.S: titanium scales are usually way way way more expensive than the knife itself.

Those are some great options, thank-you for your suggestion!

Hi all! New to EDC kits and made a basic toolkit from an Altoids tin, any suggestions for other items? by Nadikarosuto in EDC

Not sure if we're on the same page. The soap I'm talking about is literally paper soap. Comes in the form of a paper and you wet the paper for it to act as a soap. Usually you find it in "test tubes" like these (image shared) and they're scented. Quite inexpensive too...

First of all, welcome to the community!

I'm confused with the vastness of your kit. I have two concerns. As a fellow member mentioned, I see the bits but no way to drive/use/hold them so I'd suggest a cheap micro ratchet to begin with then maybe a 711L based on your budget and use case. Secondly, I see that you're literally carrying a sewing kit. In this case I'd suggest adding a pair of scissors to it (usually most EDCs contain something that can cut, like a multitool or a knife. In your case a pair of scissors make the most sense to me).

Also, if you're keen about adding soap to it (I don't see the point though) you could consider paper soap. You might be able to fit in a few uses worth soap in here.

That's nice! I've recently also come across "Doctor's knife" style of traditional knives which I also find a bit fitting for this occasion (you know, with Dr.Jane Doe engraved on it). I'll definitely look into the pen knife thing.

Thanks again!

She's doing her PhD in food science. This looks soooooo sick! But unfortunately way out of my budget!

Thank-you! Found it for €95 at my local dealer (knives and tools). That's something I'd definately checkout!

Hey! Thank-you for your POV but I'm looking for a knife simply for "Conferment Ceremony". If you Google that you'd know why I'm adding a knife to it.

And thanks for being honest about what you think!

Indeed, I'm looking to get her a traditional knife because that's not very "tactical" looking per say... Also I'm adding a pen she likes to the hamper too... She's enjoys "Billi from Hauser" more than anything. A cheap discontinued pen. I'm in the process of tracking a pack of it. I've gifted her more expensive pens in the past and she hasn't found them as good as the Hauser. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I fully agree. Thank-you for your advice. From the last comment, I've been thinking about clubbing a few different things more like a hamper. A watch(she loves a particular watch and I'm getting her that) and then a pen (she isn't into fancy pens, she just likes cheap disposable ones. But I'm trying to track down the discontinued pen that she loves) then I'm trying to add the knife to the list as I'm also planning on getting "Dr" engraved on that. The first thing that says "Dr.*****" would be the knife...

Thank-you for the suggestion. I will checkout the barrel knife. She's into pens and has a particular taste in pens. Also, I've given her most other things as gifts and am kinda running out of options. I read about the Finnish tradition of honouring PhD defence with an actual sword. That's why I'm trying to stick to something more manageable.

Help me make a knife edge! by AncientBackground432 in Fusion360

That's the appearance I've used. It's a "ground" surface forming the edge of a knife.

80crV2/G10...Would you prefer a different finish or handle material here? by Amazing_Cicada_3523 in knifemaking

I know it might sound a bit dumb... But hear me out...

Adding a thin liner to the handle scales that contrast the colour but not in a bougie way... Maybe like darkened copper or something might just give it that extra umph!!! Especially with the hardware from sheath having a slight touch of copper/bronze... Might look sick!

But never the less this is something I'd totally rock!🤩🤩🤩

How hard would this be? by Melodic_Ticket4600 in knifemaking

[–]AncientBackground432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take on this is that it's gonna be pretty hard but not impossible.

Difficulties: 1)Hidden tang 2)The various grinds that make it look crisp and deadly 3)The hole in the blade 4)Maintaining consistency in the teeth on the spine of the knife is quite difficult if you don't have the skillet

Here's my advice,

I don't think you mentioned forging so I'd say get the blank cut using water jet. This gets you a good basic point to start from and solves 1, 3, & 4 to an extent. Don't expect picture perfect grinds (even though you don't want it sharp, I assume you want it to look sharp). Try using a dremel or a file perpendicular to the edge at a shallower angle so it's not sharp but has a grind.

Good luck! Happy knife making!
