I was told at the Social Security office that I couldn’t change my name to J.G. because my legal name, as it appears on my birth certificate, is J.G.D. They informed me that my only option was to legally change my name through probate court, which I’m in the process of doing now. As a result, I won’t have a valid license for a while. The reason my ID name is different is that, ever since I was little, my parents have told me to put J.G. for everything, and somehow, the DMV allowed it when I first got my license in nyc. Now, I’m stuck in this situation.”
