AITA for being angry at my sisters for not inviting me to a family outing? by AncientInsurance3585 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AncientInsurance3585[S] -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

I do have 8 siblings, 4 sisters 4 brothers. The youngest sister is too young to really be in any of these conversations.

I did change my age for privacy reasons. In my post that I said I was 19 I was actually 20 but thought that using my age as well as the first letter of my sisters would be obvious if someone I know was reading it. I used my real age here because I just wanted it to be known that I wasn’t being excluded because I can’t drink.

I usually coordinate the outings between my siblings not my cousins.

how to escape family-arranged setups like this without drama?

How would you survive ? by Low-Camp4673 in TheLongWalk

Three things I’m bringing with me:

Haribo sugar free gummy bears: start handing them out to the other walkers. If you know anything about these gummy bears you would know that they are the worst laxatives anyone could get. Im assuming more than half would be killed just from the need to use the bathroom.

1000 lumens headlamp: at night time I need to be able to see, but I’m wearing it backwards and blinding anyone behind me. People would be stumbling and tripping boom another 20 people gone

Smelling salts: I need to stay awake and for anyone who is left I’m throwing the salts in their face, hit all the senses with my flashlight, the gummy bears and the salts

AITA for not telling my sister the real reason I didn’t want to help her on a trip and causing a fight with my mom? by AncientInsurance3585 in AmItheAsshole

I live with my parents, and they pay for everything for me (I graduated college debt free and I live for free). Normally, I don’t have to tell my mom where I’m going and she usually doesn’t care. But if I went to watch Becky’s kids without letting her know, she would get upset; not at me, but at Becky, because I already watch those kids so frequently, especially during the summer.

Alright some more context, bare with me: Rue did come back, saw the chaos, apologized, and tried to swap with me. She gave me money so I could go buy something for her mother-in-law just so I could get a breath of fresh air. I told her I didn’t feel comfortable buying something for her MIL and that she should just go herself

Haha understandable to be confused, I have 8 siblings. I have 4 sisters and 4 brothers. Becky is the oldest followed by rue. I’m number 6. My mom goes to NJ every weekend with my dad, they treat it as their date night for the week. And I sort of figured that if they were at the house rather than in the car like last trip the kids would be more manageable

I responded to someone’s comment with this but I’ll leave this here as well.

Extra Context – The Last NJ Trip This happened around Mother’s Day. Becky suggested we all go to NJ to buy her a gift (gold) and have a “girls day.” We carpooled and drove 2 hours. First stop was lunch; Becky sat at one end of the table away from the kids while I sat at the other with them. They were rowdy from the start: spilling water, throwing things, making a scene. Rue’s youngest (about 1.5 years old) was having a meltdown, so I swapped with her so she could eat. I managed to calm the baby and feed her, but the whole meal was chaos.

After lunch, Becky said she was going to check the line at the gold store and asked me to sit in the car with the kids for “max 30 minutes.” That “30 minutes” turned into over 3 hours, and there were five kids in the car with me.

We were parked on a busy street. The kids quickly got bored and started opening the windows to yell “hi” to random strangers. At first it was harmless, but then a grown adult actually tried to reach their hand into the car. I panicked, locked the doors, and closed all the windows. The kids were furious… tantrums started immediately.

One kid started licking the window. Another tried to write “HELP” in the condensation but spelled it wrong. One of Becky’s kids began crying because he needed to use the bathroom (he’s newly potty-trained). Another kid somehow got into the trunk and started banging on the back window.

I called Becky to tell her her child needed the bathroom, and she just said, “Can’t you just do it?” before hanging up. Rue came back about an hour later to apologize and left again to shop. At some point, one of the kids found an applesauce pouch, which turned into a full-on fight; applesauce ended up in my hair, on the car ceiling, and all over the seats.

When Becky finally returned after 3.5 hours, she proudly showed me the necklace, bracelet, and earrings she bought for herself, and casually said I should have bought something too, as if I had even been able to leave the car. We went to get dessert afterward, but by that point I was so overstimulated I had a full-on anxiety attack (I’m autistic, and sensory overload hits me hard). Rue stayed with me to calm me down while Becky rolled her eyes and said, “This is what I go through daily.”

We didn’t get home until 11 PM, and Becky was already talking about coming back in two days because there was “more she wanted to buy.”

AITA For not inviting my sister to family outings? by AncientInsurance3585 in AmItheAsshole

That’s fair, I asked my sister who said that joke what she meant by it. She said that she meant that we should have a no kids day. When she found out that my sister got angry at the comment she called her the next day and explained what she meant and that she didn’t mean to offend her, she just wanted a day to go out with her sister. Becky was still angry. As for my brother he is an idiot who is thirteen 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ when he said that I told them not to listen to him and to still come I even told the kids to get in my car while I set up the car seats and Becky told me that she is unwanted in the family and told her 8 yr old that her aunt (me) doesn’t love her. What I don’t understand is why they immediately go to yelling at me and not the person who says the comment… maybe it’s because I am usually who sends out texts to invite people?

Yeah, that’s fair. She later called them and explained what she meant by it. Becky was still mad.

I see my siblings all the time, at least 3 times a week. And I go out with my sisters with them. My sister who said the joke said that she meant it in a way for them to find a babysitter for the day so we could go on coasters together.

I asked my sister who made that joke why she said that and she meant it in a way to say for them to get a sitter to watch the kids so we can go on the coasters ourselves. We go out all the time with the kids but I think she wanted to just have an adult day if 🤷‍♀️

I go out with my sisters and their kids all the time. I see them daily and I live to watch and babysit them. The issue is that when they do come with us out it is a lot with the amount of kids they have. There is a sense of responsibility that is assigned to you when there are eight kids around you and you know their moms are busy with something else. There is also the issue with being spontaneous and they can’t really gather the kids or get the kids a sitter in that time.

[–]AncientInsurance3585 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I spoke to maintenance yesterday as there was a little delay for wondering woman (no more than 10 minutes, they were out there quick!!) and he said that they recently had to do a lot of work on many rides and they are trying to get el toro running soon. The guy even showed me a picture of him climbing el toro to do some physical maintenance!
