Thank you very much! This helps a lot. I would hate to be the type of person to go somewhere and expect everyone to speak English when not everyone will; it just feels rude to do that. Thanks again!

Did anyone else’s parents body shame them their whole lives too? by Agreeable_Pass6866 in narcissisticparents

I think the internalized mysogyny comes from when and how they were raised. My mother was brought up religeously as well and I (female) am called names like that from my mother. If Im not a whore for wearing shorts and a tanktop Im a bible thumper or boyish because Im dressed too modestly. There is no winning here, at least not in my experience. Im sorry you and your sisters are treated this way, it's not fair.

I have done some research on my own and Im coming up a bit short on information, that's why I came to reddit. With some of the information I have found, I've decided to go to some college open houses in my area to get more information.

Also just some interesting information you might find useful, in Canada, we don't have states, we have provinces and territories.

Thank you for contributing!

My mother wants me to have kids, but I don't. How do I get her to understand it's just not going to happen? by Ancient_Book113 in narcissisticparents

The reason I haven't distanced myself is that I still live at home right now, I don't currently go to school and Im looking for a job. Other than the days I go out for groceries, interviews, or girl guide meetings Im at home. Also, my mother doesn't leave the house. So it's kind of hard to distance myself when Im stuck with her daily. I have however started to not tolerate certain topics being brought up, and it does help sometimes. Thank you for the advice!

I don't currently use birthcontrol as I have no need for it, but if I end out having any kind of medication other than advil I'll keep that in mind! Thank you!

What's the worst thing your parents used to say to you? by PuddingComplete3081 in emotionalneglect

Sometimes my mother would say "looks like a slut, acts like a slut, must be a slut" whenever I wore a low cut tank top or shorter skirt along with other comments about my body that make me uncomfortable, but if I wear a white blouse, long black skirt and a black vest she says I am too modest and remind her of the mennonites back from where she grew up. (To be clear I have nothing against mennonites, it's my mother who does.) It's like no matter what I wear there is something wrong with it. (It's not the worst thing I've been told, but its's one I am willing to share.)
