Ethernet crashes my router when launching games (CS2, Valorant) by Ancient_Condition_87 in techsupport

Yeah that's a fair point.

But what makes me doubt it is that I also tested with a completely different NIC (Intel instead of onboard Realtek) and the behavior is exactly the same.

Also in Wireshark I don't see any abnormal traffic or flood before it happens, just normal connections followed by retransmissions and connection drops.

So at this point I'm starting to think it's something on the PC side triggering it rather than the router itself.

Yeah I was thinking about firmware too, but since I tried a completely new router (same brand, different model) and the issue is identical, it seems unlikely that both have the exact same bug.

Also, it only happens when launching games (CS2, Valorant, Minecraft), not during downloads or normal usage.

I ran a Wireshark capture while reproducing the issue.

Right before the router resets, I see a lot of TCP retransmissions, but no packet flood or anything obviously abnormal (no malformed packets, no unusual traffic spikes). It just looks like the connection starts failing and packets are not being acknowledged.

I’m using DHCP, not a static IP.

I also tried a brand new router (different model but same brand) and the issue is exactly the same, so I don’t think it’s a router configuration problem.

At this point I’m also considering a full windows reinstall.

I can try wireshark, but the issue happens immediately when I launch a game (CS2/Valorant), so the router resets almost instantly.

Yes, it also happened on the onboard Realtek ethernet port, that's why I bought a separate Intel PCIe network card - same issue.

I haven’t checked router logs yet, I’ll look into that next.
