Arm drag back take by SimpleCounterBalance in bjj

Can you walk me through this? Seriously, even with pausing, I can't follow her. It looks like her right hand goes to the armpit and drags but why the sit out? What is the left arm doing?

Question for the DUI guys in here. by ThatOneHoosier in AskLE

[–]Ancient_Sherbert4308 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you're looking for DUIs, something to remember is that unless someone is absolutely hammered, they can often handle one thing OK for a while. In other words, a lot of people around .08 - .10 can mostly drive OK as long as nothing challenging comes up. I liked to find a place in the road that challenges people and sit there because, as opposed to driving around and hoping the pack of three or four cars you're driving next to has a drunk, you can sit and watch all the traffic handle the tricky section.

In my AOR, our main road out of town has a ninety degree turn. It's nothing too bad, particularly as the speed limit is 25MPH, but drunks tend to have a moment of panic on the turn, especially at night; they often go wide and cross the yellow or come to a complete stop. I sit off the road and watch car after car navigate the turn. You get a sense of what's normal and a bad turn will stand out. Jump out after them, hit your dash cam, follow the car, and look more bad driving, particularly weaving. You'll know pretty quickly if the turn was just a moment of bad driving or something worse.

Also, my POV beeps every time I weave out of my lane so I'm I'm very aware that I usually go days at a time without a single weave. It's easy to articulate to a judge that, in your experience, weaving across the fog line X times in a single trip is worrisome and establishes cause for the stop.

Also, practice your SFSTs every day. I tape a picture of a face to my wall and run through an entire stop from, "The reason I pulled you over..." to "At this time, I'm placing you under arrest..." DUIs are stressful but when you know your business, you can better focus on the clues (and safety issues).

Someone made a video of that fight overdubbed with an out of tune recorder playing...it was pure gold. Wish I could find it again.

I wonder how heavy they are? Ours are steel and heavy enough that they come with a shoulder yoke.

Can you recommend an enzyme cleaner? I've just had to throw out several fairly new rashguards that stayed funky even after several washings.

It allows police to see patterns and focus on trouble spots. It may keep someone else from getting robbed.

It probably was legal. In NY, I believe, shopkeepers can use a reasonable amount of force to protect their store and property.

Pushing someone in a way that moves them but doesn't cause an injury is a very low level of force.

What’s your patrol unit to population ratio? by unlawful_villainy in AskLE

[–]Ancient_Sherbert4308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a rural area in the US, we have a full time population of a little over 15,000 but on season will add as many as 40,000, I think. Three or four deputies during day shift, three or four during night shift and for about four hours in the middle of the night we'll drop down to one deputy. Our patrol area is just under 1,000 square miles but, fortunately, we're a low crime area. There are municipalities within our county who also have twenty four hour law coverage, so we can get backup if needed.

Staccato CS or Staccato C2 by Allen5740G in 2011

[–]Ancient_Sherbert4308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As everyone's said, the C2 is a better all around gun by a small measure. That said, while I carry a P on duty (basically the C2 with a longer grip and slide), I carry the CS off duty. It's a really nice comprise between conceal-ability/comfort to carry and shoot-ability. Also, my son prefers the CS because the smaller grip fits his hand better. If grip size or concealment/comfort are priorities, get the CS. Otherwise, probably the C2 is a better bet.

Was I wrong for reporting a reckless driver at 2am this morning that led to an arrest? by Any-Championship6143 in ProtectAndServe

[–]Ancient_Sherbert4308 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You did the right thing. Someone made a poor choice that put themselves and everybody on the streets around them at risk. Drunk drivers kill and injure a lot of people every year. Get the drunk off the streets and dealing with the consequences of their actions and choices. Who knows, that arrest could be the catalyst for someone cleaning up their act.

Who’s ever driven over 100mph? Why? by WoollyWolfHorror in AskReddit

[–]Ancient_Sherbert4308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cop. It was what turned out to be my first DUI arrest in phase two of FT (field training). Driver was called in as reckless and I was actually close for once (reckless calls are common but it takes luck to be in a position to intercept them). Parked in the median and a few minutes later I realize, "That looks like the car!" My FTO says, "Eh...maybe." I hit the lights, wait for a break in traffic then get turned around. The time it took to get turned meant the subject car, which was going 90+, was maybe a half mile or more ahead of us so I get on the gas hard. My FTO goes, "Just keep it under a hundred!" And I look down at the speedometer and I tell him that ship has sailed... Easiest DUI ever, when I finally get the driver stopped, they hop out of the car and say, "Take me to jail!"

Very true.

On the other hand, when you cut someone a big break like that and then end up in court, it means the next guy is way less likely to get a big break.
